PSN status update: We're narrowing down the issue and continue to work to restore service to all. Updates as soon as we have them.

PSN status update (part 2): Readers/followers are confirming that "slim" units (120/250 GB models) are connecting normally.

Well, this shit fucking sucks. Can't login either, but I definitly won't be playing HR or ANYTHING, until they fix this. Corrupted save data or trophy data is a nightmare.

      Maybe I'll give my 360 a little attention tonight. . .

I haven't turned mine on yet (incase the data corruption thing is true. I couldn't care less about trophies), but I'm expecting to get AVP later on today. Hopefully this is fixed soon, and when I come home I can play.
It wont be due to the Leap Year thing... if that was the case then this would have affected my PS3 yesterday (being that I have fat first PAL gen PS3) and (you and) I am a day ahead... it's already March 1st here, would have started playing up yesterday. Yet somehow I was on the PSN this morning.

Edit - My clock has reset like everyone else said it has, but considering it seems to have been uniformly affected by the US hitting that day it seems very odd.

Edit again - Ahh, seems it was affected by the GMT dateline passing the day over into the 1st seeing as by default the PS3 sets all time as GMT +/- whatever hours you are ahead or behind, and why everyone was affected at the same time.

Apparently, this problem's a lot bigger than anyone first thought. Here I was thinking that the issue was server-side and that the PSN was at fault, but now it's looking more and more like the affected consoles have been 'bricked' and could be in worse shape than we ever imagined.

The PSN is working right now. PS3 Slim users have full functionality, and the problem lies with the "fat" PS3's. It's possible that the consoles have been 'bricked' and I'm wondering now how the hell can Sony fix millions of consoles that have been affected by something on their end?

Maybe tomorrow things will be different, but right now, things are looking pretty bleak.

Sorry for the double-post, but I feel like this bump is kind of important. Long story short...this is gonna need a firmware update to fix. If you can't connect to the PSN thanks to the error code, odds are you can't play any games...at all. DO NOT TRY TO PLAY ANY GAMES IF YOU CAN'T CONNECT -- it could corrupt your data or even worse, completely ruin your system.

This is truly an epic, EPIC fail. Your move now, Sony.

...so, I'm a little pissed off. I know that my console is one of the ones that's been toasted by this. If this fuck up has somehow caused actual problems for my PS3 then Sony had best be ready to ship me a new one along with a way to get all my saved data off my current machine.

Heavy Rain you fucks! I was almost to the end!

                  This. Is. Horrible.

All the money we put into this console and it's games, taken away in the blink of an eye. It does make me feel a tad better that a few of us here are on the same boat...along with the millions around the world. Hopefully a solution will come, and soon.

                    Next gen starts now!

So... with these astounding news; can we finally get this one thing out of our system and just declare 2010 the year of the PS3?

It may well be for all the wrong reasons, though. Just confirmed that my PS3 isn't working and I can't play Heavy Rain. Given that I got around three hours of sleep last night I know only rage and hatred.

                        Damn :/

Seriously, I wonder how quickly they'll fix this, as the timing probably couldn't be any worse (Heavy Rain + Final Fantasy XIII + probably some other stuff I just forgot about).

I wonder... if I take a trip into town, will I see lots of PS3 returns?

Indeed! it's the Sony Apocalypsis! If this continues it will definetly top X360's RROD as the worst failure in a console. Hope it gets sorted for all you non-slim owners.

I'm mostly an xbox user, i don't have a PS3, but I would never want to suffer this with my Xbox or Wii.

Well there's always GOW3 that's due out in a short while. I'm sure people will love to know that after all the hype and waiting, they are unable to play the most anticipated ps3 game of 2010 on what is now a six hundred dollar paper weight. I hope this is fixed by then.

My trophies haven't been wiped out, but I've lost my AVP trophy data on my console from when I tried to play it and Heavy Rain earlier before hearing about what had been going on.

Logging into my PSN details via the PlayStation website, my data is untouched online - but interestingly I have this note on my main page now:

"You have not completed setting up your PlayStation profile. To setup your Avatar and About Me information, please log in to PlayStation Network account management on your PS3."

My profile still seems up to date even in the Portable ID tag:

Edit - Decided to play God of War 2 on the PS3 in lieu of the fact PS3 titles aren't working... this is the PS2 GOW2 BTW... not the collection. Plays fine, saves too... except the save files say "Invalid Date" as the save file date/time stamp. LOL
