    All that people can really do is wait for a patch.
    The reason why it happened simultaneously is because the system clock should be identical on all systems. Regardless of which region it is, it should always be the same with a +/- modifier based on your regional settings.

    I'm curious to see if they're able to actually properly fix this issue (or how they fix it, rather).

      Lots of people(and seemingly Sony themselves) are waiting to see if this problem will simply fix itself once this 'glitch' hits the 24 hour mark, which is somewhere around midnight GMT and 7pm EST. Is this even possible?

        Guess I'll find out in 4 hours lol.

          I'm glad I haven't bought a PS3 yet. Though I think Slims aren't affected.

            If the internal clock itself firmly believes its the 29th of February 2010 (instead of having reset itself as many believes), it might be possible that it fixes itself once it hits the 1st of March. This, however, would mean that if Sony are unable to actually patch it, you'll eventually encounter this problem again in the future, and as a bi-product the RTC will forever be one day off-sync with the real world (1 day for each encounter with this issue)

              Almost 8 hours later and still no idea what caused it? Sony for you.

                    So it's not just me then, it was just a failed effort at taking a potshot at Sony for the sake of it!

                    I'm quite fortunate that i'm away from my PS3 right now! I'm at the other end of the country, if i had been near my machine i'd likely have been turning it on and off every few hours to check! Get home tomorrow, must remember not to go near it unless it's all been fixed!

                    Theoretically, i imagine it COULD be fixed when the day changes. Dear oh dear Sony, even the Millennium Bug got delayed!* haha

                    Wonder how and if Sony will go about compensating people for this? Statistically, would it effect a higher percentage of customers than the RROD did for Microsoft? Regardless, it's still a big fuck up on their part! Microsoft compensated (unofficially) for their downtime a few years back with a free copy of Undertow...perhaps Sony could offer us their (server-less) Calling All Cars? haha

                    * = not my joke

                      Well they certainly don't know how to fix it.

                      Edit: Yeah, I'm going to be upset that my 500 dollar console is fucked up. I'm going to take potshots @ sony

                        If they didnt know how to fix it, why the fuck are they still working on it?

                        As Stu said, you're just trying to take potshot at sony.

                          Correct, I noted this in a re-edit of my original post. The system sets all times as GMT +/- the hours that you're ahead or behind in the world. The system issues started taking place around midday in England, and affecting worldwide at this time. This is why I was confused at my console being not being affected in the morning when it was already March 1st here. I never thought to read the displayed date on my console that morning, but I was installing the patch for Heavy Rain at the time prior to starting work at 11am.

                          People who do not have net connected to their PS3's will be okay... you can still system update/patch all fat consoles even non internet connected devices by having the system data on memory stick (for the older card reading PS3's), or USB drive or even off a disc, but of course one has to have be able to do this or be provided the information. Additionally I'm sure there are some people out there with PS3's doing this that may not even have the net and have little knowledge on whats happened with their console right now.

                          My issue is that today is my 1 day off this week and I was looking forward to playing Heavy Rain today, which I cannot now. And additionally Sony is now telling me not to use the console I paid to own and use until they can sort this out. Considering I've already lost some Trophy Data from trying to play HR and AVP yesterday before finding out what was going on, I think I feel safe playing GOW2 PS2 on there again today instead. It's about all I can do.

                          Edit - Was wrong I see. Carn's comments about being a day out... WIN!

                            It is fucked up TEMPORARILY, that's all it'll be.

                            Like i said elsewhere, if this is the biggest problem you face in your life today, then you're blessed.

                              @Alexia:

                              You are certainly entitled to criticize them, but your first post says that Sony is an incompetent organization. I merely countered that the opposite is true if they’ve been in business for 64 years.

                              It’s funny that you claim to know businesses (that have been in business longer than Sony) that have gone bottom’s up, yet Sony is apparently the only business you “recall bricking consoles worldwide in a matter of days.” I guess you’ve never heard of the Xbox RROD, or the early Wii problems with WiiConnect24 and dual-layer optical discs? Both of those instances required the mailing-in of consoles for repairs. Physical repairs constitutes being “bricked.” Because the PS3, while having game issues, still works as a movie player, music player, etc. “Bricking” describes a device that cannot function in any capacity. This is not widespread YLOD - as far as we know RIGHT NOW, it is a temporary problem. And no official statement has been issued concerning the PS3 being completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement, now has it? Because then it actually would be “bricked.” Sony has offered 24 hours to come up with a solution, and yet you’re already claiming all PS3s are fucked over permanently. Give them a chance to fix it; isn’t that the customer service you seek? Or is it a problem that the solution isn’t instantaneous?

                              Very rarely will everything you purchase run at 100% efficiency, for the life of the product. Sony’s current problem sucks, and they better fix it if they want to keep from losing loyal users, but many pieces of technology nowadays require occasional fixes. Surely everything else you have ever owned in your lifetime has never experienced a problem? All game machines usually have problems, especially newer ones with more gadgets under the hood. I understand that you spent a lot of money on your PS3…but it’s not like they’re not trying to fix the problem. Your PS3 is not broken forever. Stop being so dramatic.

                              I love how you say “at least I can avoid applying the update” in post 38, then in post 50 you say “Downloading updates for the game.” Those posts occurred in a span of 2 hours; way to demonstrate patience. If you knew the PS3 (specifically older models) was having problems, why not just wait until official word comes that all older PS3s are safe? Excellent deduction skills you have there.

                              Aren't you like 14-years-old? Don't you mean that your parents "haven't bought a PS3 yet?" Because being 14 would justify the stupidity of a useless console fanboy post like the one you just made with the Nelson Muntz picture. Or the shit you tried talking in the Heavy Rain thread.
