Would your save file be able to have them re-appear when you play through the game and trigger anything?

Maybe? It doesn't matter especially anyway. They're not important to me...until they stop the game from working.

Damn if you can't get them back, Jon. At least you've got the incentive from Sony to replay the game again, if you are a fan of Trophies. I know me and Emma will be playing this later today.

          (What do I get?)

(Still remains to see if they'll be able to patch up the RTC, though. Would kinda be hilarious if the internal clockwork of the phat forever believes it's a day off and if it every 4th year will go another day off sync.)

You are certainly entitled to criticize them, but your first post says that Sony is an incompetent organization. I merely countered that the opposite is true if they’ve been in business for 64 years.

It’s funny that you claim to know businesses (that have been in business longer than Sony) that have gone bottom’s up, yet Sony is apparently the only business you “recall bricking consoles worldwide in a matter of days.” I guess you’ve never heard of the Xbox RROD, or the early Wii problems with WiiConnect24 and dual-layer optical discs? Both of those instances required the mailing-in of consoles for repairs. Physical repairs constitutes being “bricked.” Because the PS3, while having game issues, still works as a movie player, music player, etc. “Bricking” describes a device that cannot function in any capacity. This is not widespread YLOD - as far as we know RIGHT NOW, it is a temporary problem. And no official statement has been issued concerning the PS3 being completely unrecoverable without some hardware replacement, now has it? Because then it actually would be “bricked.” Sony has offered 24 hours to come up with a solution, and yet you’re already claiming all PS3s are fucked over permanently. Give them a chance to fix it; isn’t that the customer service you seek? Or is it a problem that the solution isn’t instantaneous?

Very rarely will everything you purchase run at 100% efficiency, for the life of the product. Sony’s current problem sucks, and they better fix it if they want to keep from losing loyal users, but many pieces of technology nowadays require occasional fixes. Surely everything else you have ever owned in your lifetime has never experienced a problem? All game machines usually have problems, especially newer ones with more gadgets under the hood. I understand that you spent a lot of money on your PS3…but it’s not like they’re not trying to fix the problem. Your PS3 is not broken forever. Stop being so dramatic.
In my opinion, Sony is an incompetent organization, and I again am entitled to that opinion. You seem to think that the key to success in business is simply "be competent, deliver good service". They certainly help, but they are not the be-all and end-all of a successful business. As I said before, Sony have a good brand and had a very good product. The PS2 was the best console of its generation. It was also big in music long before it even entered the console industry. The company I work for (British Gas) has been in business since the early 1900s despite being completely and utterly incompetent at every level of the business, but it has cheap products and a strong brand name.

The comparison to the 360 or Wii is in no way the same. Those are hardware faults and every console has them. 360's RROD, PS3's YLOD, and the Wii's initial problems it had as well. It's a completely different league to simultaneously knock out every console in existence, permanent or not.

It's "bricked" because it's a gaming device that could not play games, either online or offline. Regardless of what additional features the game had, its primary purpose is to play games. It didn't do that.

I'm not being "over dramatic", the point is it shouldn't have happened to begin with. Every console in the world going down at once is.. just wow. I'm not the one who's getting all eat up about someone not thinking Sony is perfect, so I don't think I'm the one who needs to stop being "over dramatic".

Alright, everyone needs to just breathe. Breathe. This was not a catastrophic event in video game history. It shouldn't have happened and it should never happen, but this was not the YLoD or RRoD. People couldn't play their games for 24 hours and some people have lost their trophies. It sucks and it was a fail on Sony's part, but when we look back on this in retrospect, it really won't be all that big of a deal...unless it happens again.

I'm not angry at Sony, by any means. There are a lot more important things to be angry about. I just no longer have confidence in Sony as a business, or in their product.

Well, all I really have to say on the issue is, I'd much rather have had a silly little internal clock bug on the 4 360's I've owned at one time or another than the shitty Red Ring of Death's/Disc Drive malfunctions/Graphic chip corruption that actually do "brick" the console permanenatly, instead of just a very, very temporary occurance, that in the grand scheme of things, doesn't really matter.

Bottom line, the PS3 is a quality product hardware wise--can't say the same for alot of the earlier 360 models(which, the newest one I"ve received from Microsoft last week seems like those kind of days are over).

Although last gen, the PS2 had the whole disc read error syndrome, so I suppose the pendium will always shift in different directions for each company. . .except Nintendo. The shit they make always seems to be made of the highest quality. Can't tell you how many times I dropped my gameboy color back in the day. . .

Yeah, my PS2 had the disk read error problem a while back and I had to buy a new one. Honestly, I've never had a RROD and have had very few problems with the 360, other than the graphic card problem I had last year. Like you said though, Nintendo build their shit to last. I can't recall how many times I've dropped my DS on the floor, or accidentally kicked my Wii over and I've still never had any problems with a Nintendo console. The only one which was a bit iffy was the Gamecube, but every other of their consoles which I've owned (NES, SNES, N64, Gameboy, GBC, DS, Wii), they are built like a brick shithouse.

Partly my point. It's the only gaming malfunction that's made national headlines and on the BBC website as well.
