I feel HL1 had the better story and pacing. the gameplay in both is incredibly similar; all H2 really brought to the fold was the Grav gun. And although it was a nice addition, I never felt it drastically changed the game.

As for graphics, HL1 has aged very well. I mean, sure, it's not the most beautiful game. But for a game that old, it still looks pretty damn good.

All that HL2 has over HL1 for me is the characters. And the very end of HL1 is kind of a chore if I recall.

You should have been there at BF2-s or SWAT4 peak times to enjoy some ridiculously awesome teamwork moments, aswell as all the emotions you can get when you see a tank coming at your squad from the top of a hill. Replay value in BF2 can be measured in thousands of hours, and that's for each of its aspects. TF2 is an amazing competitive multiplayer platform, though. And a great game overall.

Speaking of fancy graphics, does anyone remember the PR campaign for many of the remarkable games like FEAR? The PR guys actually went into details about the games, technical details. And not just "this is a new engine, and look at how pretty it is". There was substance even before the game was released.

Original CS had awesome moments tenfold.. Especially when you had just taken out almost an entire team by yourself, one time I did that I was literally shaking by the end of it cos my awesomeness had just reached unknown territory and I know everyone was probably saying stuff "omfg, he has mad skillz" "cheat0r?" etc..

And when they came out with that shield weapon (is that still in there?), I would just stand behind the shield for hours with like ten guys firing AKs at me. I was also the knife extraordinaire, many times I would go for glory and ditch my weapon for a knife kill.. it was even greater when they added that UT voice "Humiliation", great times...

                    • All is right in the world today with Deus Ex/Eidos Montreal!

                      Edge - 9
                      IGN - 9.0
                      1UP - 10
                      PCGamer - 94/100
                      Gamespy - 4/5
                      Joystiq - 4.5/5
                      Eurogamer - 9
                      Gametrailers - 9
                      Destructoid - 9.5
                      GameFront - 9.5
                      XBM UK - 10

Here's some lovely quotes from a mix of the reviews above, showing some nice points for the recognition it deserves.

"Deus Ex: Human Revolution is The Best Stealth Action Game Since Metal Gear Solid."
But the important point is that Deus Ex: Human Revolution is one of those rare games that knows you can't be perfect all the time, and that you have the right to change your mind about your actions later. It just wants to be played with and enjoyed - and when you finish, you just want to play with it again.
hat you have here is a compellingly entertaining game, with some of the most rewarding stealth I’ve encountered. And most of all, you have choice. Choice about whether you mow down enemies with a machine gun, or tap them on the shoulders and punch them in the face. Choice about whether you sneak in via the roof, through the sewers, or march boldly in through the front door. Choice about whether you hack, smash or learn passwords through information retrieval. Choice about whether people live or die. So in those tiny moments when the game robs you of choice, it rather offends. But mostly it does not, and it’s a fantastic, elaborate, and so rarely today, long game.
                      10 Lasting Appeal
Practically demanding multiple playthroughs, Human Revolution will take you anywhere from 25 to 40 hours on your initial run.
Although the game world has plenty of room for more stories told by future titles, this story comes to a very definitive end. That's something rare in big-budget games today, especially when they take place in an established franchise. But a real conclusion just confirms why this game deserves so much praise: by the end of the game's impressively long run time, you're left satisfied by the story and the characters within it.

This is the Deus Ex game we've been waiting for.
And let's remind ourselves that it is not being judged in a vacuum -- newcomer Eidos Montréal flippantly barges onto the scene and hushes the crowd of streamlined, focus-tested roller coaster games. Human Revolution is an imperfect, complex and ambitious reminder of what a game can be it's unafraid.
You are a persistently bemused buffoon. Most games won't convey that opinion so indelicately, instead hiding it between the lines of text that ceaselessly tell you where to go, what to do and exactly how to do it. Deus Ex: Human Revolution isn't exempt from the clumsy tutorial crowd, but once it gets through the jarring video pop-ups, it quickly stops treating you like an imbecilic waypoint-marker addict. This game thinks you're an adult and expects you to handle your shit.
"It didn't have so much as disdainful remark when I used Jensen's super strength to block all the doorways with vending machines, thereby surviving a waiting-for-the-elevator standoff without firing a single bullet."

                      • I'll probably pick it up when it's cheaper. I tried to get into the original Deus Ex; I really did. The customization was a really neat feature, but I just hated certain parts of the gameplay. Mainly the actual shooting part. It seemed like even when centered on an enemy, if they were more than 10 feet away it'd take me 3 clips to kill 'em. Happened to me on both the PS2 version, and the Steam version.

Graphically it is a bit meh, but what do you expect from a game released in 2000? You can't expect it to be visually on par with Call of Shit, nor is it a bad game because the gameplay style differs. Story-wise it's hard to find a better game.

From the sounds of the reviews, they've fixed everything that was wrong with Invisible War, but I'm skeptical still. So yeah I'll hold off for a bit.

What is the point of the tranquiler if it'll still alert your presence? Maybe MGS spoiled me but I want to discover not only nook and cranny but also what these guards are carrying. I have no problem not killing anybody but it's pretty hard to do even that when your tazer has limited use. At times, made me wish I could just knock fools out, especially being an augmented person.
