Never been a big fan of Metroid, other than Metroid Fusion on the Gameboy Advance which is one of my favorite games ever...and this game here looks like it has the potential to have the same effect. Just check out this brand new gameplay video for the Wii exclusive:

Haven't been paying attention to the story so I'm not exactly sure what Samus is up to this time around, but that gameplay video almost sold me. Holding the Wii-mote sideways as if it were a SNES controller for the platforming parts, and then aiming the Wii-mote at the TV for the first-person segments. I'm sold on this game from the gameplay alone. Also...so far, this has got to be one of the best-looking Wii games around.

Anyone else looking forward to it?

Wow, looks very nice! I like how it's not just the standard fps-format like in the Mrime, but also mixes in a little bit of the old school game-play. Ooh, Ray likes.

since team ninja has failed to deliver anything spectacular since last gen, let's see if they can pull it off with a character that belongs to another developer. metroid is like my least favorite Nintendo franchise ever, so yeah, i don't have my fingers crossed.

Metroid Prime was hardly what I'd call "standard FPS", though. Prime played more like some weird first person hybrid of the 3D Mario and Zelda games than an actual FPS.

Either way, I'm really looking forward to Other M ('bout time we got some non-Prime games and non-portable 2D-ish action). Still a bit uncertain about the series' increasing attention towards spoken narratives, though.

I still think Metroid Prime 1 and 2 on the Gamecube are some of the best crafted games ever created, and a brilliant transition on how it went into the first-person adventure narrative from a 2D scrolling adventure. Prime 1 is definitely in the top five of best games from the last generation format of consoles.
Speaking of Other M, I am more intrigued on the story bridging between Super Metroid and Fusion, getting to know more about Adam and the universe. The voice acting, if done correctly, will work I think for this series if they still keep the atmosphere to be rich and ambient as the others. Other M is probably the biggest Wii game for me (outside from Pikmin 3, Mario Galaxy 2, Zelda Wii, and what ever Retro Studios is developing! ) this year.

Yeah, this is looking awesome. I loved the Prime series (and as Carn said, they really aren't "standard FPS" games), and I think I can trust Team Ninja to pick up the reigns for a new style of Metroid... that is, a new style that's going retro while blending in the Prime-inspired segments. Plus, like Fred said, Retro Studios is also working on something that's very hush-hush. It's exciting.

Metroid is one of my favourite video game franchies and I am very excited for this game.

Although I really want to know when they plan to continue the story past Fusion.

<-huge fan of Metroid, been playing the titles since the good ol' days of the NES/GameBoy, own every title, bought Stemage's "Varia Suite", blah blah blah...

It's a shame Gunpei Yokoi is no longer with us, just to see what has become of this franchise. I wonder what he'd think of the direction...?

On topic, really looking forward to this game, though, like BadWolfX, i'd rather see the storyline progress, as opposed to all these backstories (Prime, Other M).

Talk about "sticking out like a sore thumb"...

Actually, I was referring to that white cracker. *facepalm*

Seriously, though... You'd think the developers would/could atleast add some variation to their suit design. It looks like a group of Halo fanboys.

Lol I know, I was just jokin'. I see what you mean, though. I guess their thought process is that it doesn't really matter what those guys look like as long as everyone understands that Samus is the #1 bitch in the universe with the coolest most hi-tech suit evar.

People in what I take are standard uniforms don't need to individualize! (The real excuse probably lies hidden in resource management on the system side.) That aside, I believe there's a possibility the one on the far right might be a woman (might just be the timing of the shot that makes it seem so.)

According to rumors Other M will revisit the epic finale of Super Metroid.
