Tonight I had my first real experience playing random online matches, and I gotta say training for a week first made a hell of a difference. Of course, I still lost a ton, but I can't say I've ever had as much fun losing in any other videogame. Mostly because A)about 70-75% of the matches felt competitive even if I eventually lost and B)I can sense my improvement, and I make some rather stupid mistakes that in a couple cases cost me the match. But man, this game is just so much FUN! I guess it also helps that I don't feel completely lost to how utterly hectic things can get on screen like I use to, like a deer staring down headlights. Odd enough, the team I seemed to the best with(Wesker, Deadpool, Chun Li) is the least I practiced with, and the ones I practiced the most with(Dante, Ryu, Jean Grey) the least success. But I guess that's due to using Jean, but hell, I like a challenge. Also, I can't say I really ran into any assholes or terrible spammers tonight, but I'm sure my luck will run out sooner or later. . .

Also, I had the the distinct pleasure to play with none other than Mr. Spencer himself tonight. Indeed, I know now too to fear the wrath of the one known as Victor Von Doom.

Now, if only my arcade stick would finally arrive, the master plan will be complete(I bought the BradyGames Strategy Guide Today too. Looks like a valuable asset to own if you want to understand the game faster if you're not a veteran of fighters like poor saps like me)

yea I played one guy who would knock me to the ground and use one of Zero's specials where energy beam comes out of the ground and it gets you while you're down so there's no defense against it in that situation

Zero seemed ok when playing him; just at a social match and somebody mostly spawned killed me with him. T_T

You are right. It was a bad choice of words. Whatever word you tag it with, it still is just beyond annoying.

Part of the fun to these games is the sheer randomness of what can happen, but no, some people like to force out a win by cheating. To me, doing the same move in constant succession IS cheating. No challenge.

Wholeheartedly agree.

It really kills the fun (of both fighting games and multiplayer games in general, really) if all you're up against is the same combination of characters and attacks in a constantly reoccurring pattern. Regardless of whether or not there is some sort of counter you may initiate to deal with the situation.

It's pretty sad. Really. Seeing people who're either so dead serious about their shit that they can't afford to shake things up a bit or people with the "Let's pwn sum n00bs"-attitude that'll spend countless hours repeating the same thing over and over again.

I have encountered several individuals that will play normally until they are gonna lose then out comes the beam-spamming. That annoys me far more than anything else. It's kinda like "Hey this person is a good player, I enjoye---STOP THAT"

For example, I was playing against a Deadpool last night, and he timed it repeatedly to where right when my character got up he would use Trigger Happy. We did this until one of my characters was completly wasted. I got my retribution with Amaterasu...But seriously, do people find that fun or is it probably just more or less to get an easy victory to boost their numbers?

Randomly jumped online for a player match earlier today, and thoroughly got my shit stuffed violently up my asshole by some guy who was "7th Lord," whatever that means. I used Deadpool/Akuma/Dante and he had Super Skrull/Dormammu/Dr. Doom and nearly had a flawless victory on me until I got him with a 'Trigger Happy' near the end of the match and did minimal damage. I checked his license and he has over 50 wins and single digit losses in ranked matches, and used the same team over 90% of the time.

This is why I don't get fighting games.
