  • God of War : Ghost of Sparta Announced (PSP - Ready at Dawn)

    God of War fans –

I’m pleased to share some exciting news involving our favorite Spartan warrior. Fresh off his incredible run in God of War III, Kratos will be coming back to PSP and PSPgo in God of War: Ghost of Sparta!

The last time we saw Kratos on the portable platform was in God of War: Chains of Olympus, a game that coupled stunning visuals with stellar gameplay and is still the highest rated PSP title of all-time on Metacritic.com. So what can you expect this time?

First of all, it’s developed by Ready At Dawn Studios, in close collaboration with SCEA’s Santa Monica Studio, so we have the same talented team that brought you Chains of Olympus — they know the franchise and know what it takes to create an amazing game. I can also tell you from
first-hand experience that we are pushing the limits of what PSP can do with state-of-the-art visual technologies, higher resolution environments, and greater depths of scale. We’re also providing over 25% more gameplay, an improved weapon system, and new magical powers — all enjoyed anytime, anywhere.

As for the storyline, this new adventure will serve as a prequel of sorts, picking up where God of War left off. Ghost of Sparta tells the story of Kratos’ ascension to power as the God of War. In his quest to rid the nightmares that haunt him, Kratos must face his dark past to prove his worthiness to the Gods — a journey that will reveal the origins of lost worlds and finally answer long-awaited questions about Kratos’ tattoo, scar, and family.

Well, that’s all I can tell you right now, but we’ll have plenty more to share as we move closer to E3 and our release later this year, so stay tuned for more God of War: Ghost of Sparta news and be sure to keep an eye on SpartansStandTall.com and http://forums.godofwar.com for updates.

Those are totally real time PSP shots and i'm Prince Henry.

also, where the fuck is RE PSP anyway

^ It's a deflection of one of the arrows.

I don't quite get how this will fit in between the first and second games so much... he was a God the whole time.

^ the PR blurb mentions things about Kratos's tatoo, scars and FAMILY. I guess this will involve Kratos's twin brother and deranged mother ?!

They did a cell phone game that was also set between GOW1 and 2 if i recall, never tried that myself.

How is the PSP still alive? I honestly don't get it. It's probably the easiest system to play pirate software on outside of the Dreamcast, and from what I understood software sales are now more or less non-existent combined with the PSP Go tanking miserably.

I want Resident Evil Portable as much as the next guy, but I think it's time for Sony to call it quits and move on to PSP2. And move the Portable game up to XBLA/PSN/PC Digital Distribution please.

The big problem is that Sony would pretty much have to axe the entire thing, take a break and THEN return to the portable marked... +Unless you're Apple, selling stuff that relies entirely on digital distribution is almost an impossible feat.

But, yeah, Sony's cocked up big time with the PSP... countless (and half-pointless) redesigns. Weird ass firmware cockery on a daily basis (Seriously, Sony... if you're gonna do Firmware updates for a system, look at how Microsoft's currently doing it.)

It really is amazing that they're still doing new AAA software for it... considering the risk that it must be. It's as if every new big game is just a new threat, as it'll instantly become the target of potentially bringing new exploits. And the funny thing is that people dig their homebrew support so much that they even refuse to buy new games... only 'cause they don't work with their PSPs "yet"

This looks pretty cool. I'm always up for some more God of War, especially on the PSP because Chains of Olympus was really awesome. This is what the www.SpartansStandTall.com website was for, as to be expected...but I'm still hoping to hear about DLC for God of War III eventually.

Also, if you go to the website, you can see the reflection in the water more clearly -- and it screams Kratos's brother to me.

Atlantis and Kratos's brother. Are there any other loose ends to tie up?

Artemis, Athena and Aphrodite fates (well, Aphrodite is probably dead but still)

I think that the reflection in the water is how Kratos used to be

We know what happened to Athena.

Gods whose fates we don't know:
Aphrodite, Apollo, Artemis, Demeter, Dionysus and Hestia.

We won't be seeing Kratos kill the Gods in this game, though. It takes place between GoW and GoW2, showcasing his journey to become a God.

I know (Artemis might finally appear, though)

We dont knwo what the heck did Athena after Olympus fall, maybe she is God now

I dont knwo why they didnt included Hestia in GoW3 if in the myths she is guardian of the Hearth of Olympus. That was like making a cherry pie without the cherry

                              E3 trailer:
                              YouTube video:

My suspicions of Kratos's brother and Atlantis being plotpoints were correct, it seems.

Kratos fights Scylla, uses a Spartan shield and spear in Ghost of Sparta:

                              More hands-on impressions, from G4:
