2 days away from launch and I stumbled upon this video of an absolute game-breaking glitch in the game's multiplayer. It's been exploited numerous times by people who got the game early, and by people in the Beta. It's absolutely disastrous and game-ruining. I just canceled my preorder.
Fuck Treyarch.

Zero hour is nearly upon us. Black Ops releases on the East Coast in just over two hours. Tomorrow morning I'll be cutting class and picking up the game for both PS3 and 360 and playing all day. Here's hoping it's not half as disappointing as Modern Warfare 2.

First-day review:
Black Ops is a special game. It's special in quite a few ways, and not just for the obvious reasons. At this point, Activision could hand off Call of Duty to a dev no one has ever heard of and people would buy the game. Bobby Kotick could take a dump in a box, slap a Call of Duty label on it and it would sell fairly well. The game doesn't have to be very good, but Black Ops is just that.
Expanded thoughts:
Spoiler:
I have 3 or 4 missions left to go in the campaign and it's probably, in my opinion, the best, most entertaining and most interesting Call of Duty campaign I've ever played(the only one I missed was 3). The missions are action-packed and interesting, and playing on Hardened, pretty challenging. I'm now glad that I played World at War otherwise I never would've understood/appreciated the flashback mission with Reznov and Dmitri. That was really cool. As for the whole game, the torture storyline keeps getting better and better as I go along. Nova 6...Reznov...Dragovic...what does it all mean!?
The voice acting is completely superb. I never would've thought Sam Worthington would be such a great male lead(lolz) in a video game. Ice Cube is also extremely surprising in this. They both act their characters very well. Ed Harris as Hudson is fantastic as well, but I can't help but LOL whenever he says something like "TAKE COVER!" because...it's Ed Harris.
Now to the heart of the game, the multiplayer. Definitely the deepest it's ever been, and probably the most balanced since CoD4. This is like a brand new Call of Duty. It's the same tried and true formula, but it just feels extremely different. The running is slower, the knifing is different, the aiming is different...it just feels different. But in a good way.
This game is hard. There is a mandatory level of skill that the completely noob-friendly MW2 did not have. This game is challenging, thanks to the guns actually having RECOIL! Good God, firing an LMG in MW2 was like shooting a BB gun. This game, everything has recoil. Plus...the assault rifles act like assault rifles, and the SMG's act like SMG's. No more sniping across the map with a submachine gun, folks.
Treyarch designed this game's multiplayer to NOT be pick-up-and-play casually. If you wanna compete and have the most fun, you're gonna have to grind, level up, earn weapons and buy everything you need to excel. You definitely need to play this game a decent amount, because CoD points are not handed out very easily. Speaking of which...the CoD points system is incredible. No longer can you just unlock a weapon and use it, you gotta buy it first and then pick which attachments, etc. you want to use. It's really a game-changer.
The perks are balanced. The killstreaks are not over-the-top ridiculous like in MW2, but as I expected, the RC car is really annoying when it kills you...yet EXTREMELY fun to use. It's hilarious to see someone notice your car, turn around and sprint away only to get blown to bits once you catch up with them.
Again, it's only the first day, but as of right now...I approve. Bigtime improvement over MW2.
EDIT: Estimations say Black Ops is the fastest-selling game of all-time with over 7 million copies sold on day one:

I have to completely agree with everything you said CR29, story is great, finished it on normal first like I do everything, so I can get a good gauge of the overall difficulty and to be able to take things in without having to fear for my life. One small problem I have with it though...Spoiler:
Other than that the game is top notch. Easily game of the year material. I will be starting my veteran run and playing the MP and zombie mode in between. While I love the story and the whole torture/flashback thing after they drill it into you so much, you figure out the end result before the end.
Oh and one small nugget of info...AOTS said that an hour after launch on Tuesday morning there were over a million people playing hehe.Last edited by Agent_Wong; 11-10-2010, 10:06 PM.

Finished the campaign tonight, and while the ending didn't ruin the game for me, it was kinda disappointing.
Spoiler:
I couldn't help but LOL when you saw Mason pretty much photoshopped into the footage of JFK at the end, implying that he was the one who killed him. It pretty much came out of nowhere, too. I wish they would've delved more deeply into that whole JFK scenario. Also, the final mission really wasn't that great. All this building of Dragovich, Dragovich, Dragovich(who was spoken of and RARELY seen, by the way) and then he's there for about 45 seconds at the end.
I also thought the way Woods and Bowman died was bullshit. Those guys deserved better. At least Woods got to go out a hero, though, when that Russian scumbag blew himself up. Bowman got done dirty, though...hit with a pipe by some nameless Soviet in a Cambodian cave. It aint right.
Overall, still a great game. The ending left a sour taste in my mouth but it didnt ruin the whole experience.

To anyone who has played/beaten this game, I just want to clear some things up for my friends. Spoiler:
Is there a new zombie mode? I know there are some old maps, but I heard there's some new ones where you play as ex presidents such as JFK and even Putin, fighting zombies inside the pentagon. Is this true...and is it awesome?"One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars."
Resident Evil/Castlevania/ Silent Hill/Onimusha/Tekken /Dark Souls

I dunno, I've never seen Fight Club...but if you're talking about Mason imagining Reznov the whole time, then yeah. As the game and torture sequences wore on, you started to figure out what was happening before they spelled it out for you. I was still surprised to see Hudson's point of view of Mason screaming "MY NAME IS VIKTOR REZNOV! AND I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE," though. I figured Mason was insane, but I didn't think it was to that level.

JFK, Nixon, Fidel Castro and SecDef Robert McNamara fighting zombies in the Pentagon. Yes. And yes, it's amazingly awesome. The banter is HILARIOUS. Some of the stuff that JFK and Nixon say have me cracking up as I'm trying to fight off the horde. Everything from JFK singing the Star Spangled Banner, to Nixon saying completely random shit. The voice actors do a great job of sounding enough like them to make the satire extremely funny.Last edited by Vector; 11-11-2010, 02:53 PM.

*Sigh*, here we go again with bitching and complaining about something that's completely irrelevant. . . .
http://www.theatlantic.com/culture/archive/2010/11/call-of-dutys-twisted-advertising-campaign/66293/The latest installment of the video game has been shilled with a misuse of the word "soldier" and a troubling portrayal of game players
Anyone wanna take bets until how long before the "outrage" causes Activision to pull the commercial?sigpic
