  • Xbox LIVE Indie Games!

    This didn't exactly need a thread badly, but I made one anyway;

Anyone ever checked out or bought a game from Indie Games?
Over a period of time, I've skimmed through a lot of nice and shitty stuff...
It's a pretty cool feature, to say the least. I've fiddled around with the XNA kit myself, but yet to actually make anything worthwhile.

Anyway, with that out of the way! There are a couple of titles I've picked up on Indie Games that have been absolutely fantastic. Both will only set you back a tinzy winzy amount of MS Points. Of course, not all regions have Indie Games yet (unfortunately), so you might feel locked out. I solved this myself by just setting up a US account and buying an MS points card on ebay to add some points to it

    -Single Player
    -Lots of neat little secrets
    -Good controls
    -Nice visual style
    -Charming music
    -240 MS points

I really wish this one would hit XBLA (and evt. PSN/STEAM) so more people could jump in and enjoy it. The developer that made this was doing a "1 month pr. game" development thingy on Indie Games, but I didn't really like the first two games in the Arkedo Series. However, Pixel's just pure awesomeness.

    -Single Player
    -Multiplayer (2-4 players) (Local only)
    -Music by the "Yuzo Koshiro"
    -Official Website
    -Protect Me Knight!!!
    -240 MS points

This game is like a mixture of simple action/beat 'em up stuff and Tower Defense. You pick one out of four different classes, build walls that enemies can't pass through (but you can), while you beat the crap out of anything that tries to get near the princes. Would be neat if there was a second release with online support. And, oh, the game also has some of the most amazing English text I've seen since the 80s.

    -Single Player
-Multiplayer (2 player co-op) (Local only)
-Looks and sounds like an old B&W Game Boy game
    -80 MS pioints

This one caught me by surprise. Everything, except from its fancy split-screen techniques and resolution, is like an old Game Boy game. The co-op element in it is really nice (and works perfectly when you're playing alone too, just a single button push to swap between the two characters). Solve weirdo puzzles to find treasure! DO IT!

Anyway, share your Indie Games recommendations here! I'm sure there has to be more top notch stuff on there that I haven't bought yet! (You know, stuff that isn't Kudo or a massage game... 'cause I can never get enough of those...)

"The Impossible Game" is quite fun. All it basically is is you play as a square and have to jump over obstacles to reach the end, but it's extremely difficult and you get more and more pulled in because you want to complete it. For what it costs, I got a lot of fun out of it.

Also "I made a game with zombies in it" is quite fun too.

I only bought one before, I think its called Paint something.
You're a little blob and you gotta paint the floor.
Its soundtracks fucking sexy, and its 3D; the game likes to have certain filters on certain levels.

Isn't the impossible game free on the internet or is this a different version?

There are a good few games on Indie Games that are full versions if you just grab the trial, but you still have the option to pay a certain price (usually the minimum of 80 MS points) if you want to support its developer.

However, most are usually limited by a timer that resets the game after an X amount of time. Though, there are some that are slightly more thought through and limit features/functionality in the trial version.

It's a shame that indie games aren't available in Mexico's marketplace, most of the time you end up with odd MSP stock and Indie Games are a great way to spend it, there are some interesting titles (Avatar Onslaught for example)... Shame I don't have a credit card to buy it with my US or UK account.

I've got a few different regional LIVE accounts. What I did was just buy a points card on Ebay for my US account. (Seems like Indie Games are available in Europe now, but only to EU countries... so no Norway love )

Also, yeah, the odd MSP numbers are sometimes horrifyingly annoying... Also, I find it a bit sad that there are some really top notch games on indie games for 80~240 MS Points, while on XBLA and the DLC front, there's plenty of stuff that has no form for self-awareness on the quality front and unjustifiably lists itself at insanely high prices

I Made a Game with Zombies In It (in L337 speak) is pretty good mindless fun. Shame that it ends so early.

                    Any fans of Trials HD?

Old School Racer is an indie games take on it, and based on the demo, it completely nails it!

I actually picked up Trials HD this week (since it was on sale and I kinda avoided it before, since I had my fill of similar types of games 10+ years ago)

But that does look kinda nice. I'll grab the trial of Old School Racer sometime later and give it a spin.

By the way, anyone tried Apple Jack?
I hear some people says it's supposed to be really great.
