The pseudo 3D seen in that DSi game is just a reversed head-tracking (uses the built in camera to monitor directional movement in order to adjust video rendering angel)
The rendering you see on the 3DS is actual 3D achieved through rendering the same frame from two different angles at the same time (notice how the top screen's horizontal resolution is 800x240, and not 400x240. (Which, of course, can be combined with either the system's built in gyro, accelerometer, and/or cameras to further enhance the depth by making angles changed based on input from any of those input methods)
Also, regarding 3DS vs PSP comparison of snake there, also add into the equation that the 3DS there is a pre-launch demo while the PSP one there is a very recent release. (To just further give you the idea of what you may dream about in the future for the system. When people start inventing new and dirty tricks to further improve their visuals on the platform)

Reserves judgment until I see the true gpu/cpu specs, I doubt it will anywhere near as good as those pics from that ridge racer pic and the ingame footage of mgs it looks no better than a n64 running in slightly higher resolution with filtration tricks.
The DSi uses a ARM9E CPU at 133 MHz (in place of the original ARM9 at 67 MHz) and has 16MB of ram instead of 4MB if that's a margin to go by.If he had a brain, he'd be dangerous.

As I understand it, the 3DS is not exactly more powerful than a PSP/PS2 but it is capable of generating particle/light effects like the GameCube did. Thus despite not being able to push a lot of polygons, it can make the ones that do come out, look a lot better on screen.

The shader effects displayed in some of the shots so far are pretty impressive, and, yeah, this is far from N64 stuff (modeling, textures, shaders and resolution exceeds it. Or, well, some N64 games supported 640x480 "hi-res")
Dunno what to expect from the specs, but there's gotta be some graphical juice in there for it to pull off that 3D tech smoothly. (Not to mention, although it was a fancy preview, the Kid Icarus stuff seemed to run butter smooth)

If you look at the MGS tech demo, you'll notice that normal mapping and shading is being used. Not the typical flat textures from last generation's games.
Normal mapping didn't come easy for either the PS2 or even the Wii. So I dunno why some ppl think that you can simply run a N64 game on high-res and employ some filtering tricks to get a similar result. Not gonna happen.
And just to remind ppl what a N64 game looked like:
