  • Dreamcast titles coming on XBLA/PSN

SEGA is planning on releasing 18 to 24 dremcast titles for XBLA/PSN

Earlier this month Sega confirmed that Sonic Adventure and Crazy Taxi are to be the first to be released this fall with improved resolution, surround sound, online leaderboards and Achievements/Trophies.

Which titles are you expecting? Shenmue? Power Stone? Code Veronica?

D2 would be awesome though i doubt very much it'll happen. Space Channel 5 Parts 1 and 2 again, awesome but doubt it. It's all gonna be Sega made stuff, so i'd guess stuff like the rest of the Sonic games (Shuffle etc), Sega GT, Virtua Cop, Virtua Fighter, and maybe Shenmue.

        Fixed for truth.

EDIT: Oh yes! Skies is clearly going to be one of these, that's for sure!

Sega has told CVG that it expects to have between 18 and 24 old Dreamcast titles re-released on XBLA and PSN by next summer.

As revealed earlier this month, Sega will bring Sonic Adventures and Crazy Taxi to the online services in the autumn.

But it looks like the much-loved publisher has many more Dreamcast classics up its sleeve.

Earlier today at E3, we asked Sega West president Mike Hayes how many Dreamcast titles he expected to have on the service by this time next year.

His reply will warm the heart of Dreamcast lovers everywhere:

"We hope to have somewhere between 18 to 24. Around that."

Good news, hey kids? Sadly, Hayes said that the firm was concentrating on bringing back Dreamcast games for now - with no plans to revisit the Sega Saturn back catalogue.

"We don't have any more plans than Dreamcast at the moment," he added. "You're talking about things like Saturn etc? No, we're focusing on Dreamcast. There's a significant catalogue there.

"With Dreamcast, we want to refocus people on that particular console. We want to make it more of a campaign... Confusing it by putting other [systems] in, we decided probably wouldn't be the right thing. And obviously the Dreamcast was huge for the fans

Still, 18-24. That's a lot of games. What would you like to see added to the pot, readers?

Shenmue for sure. It needs some more time in the sun.

                    How about some Cannon Spike?

The evidence so far shows that these are lazy, cheap ports from the PC versions.

If you can find them (or if you already own them), it's much better to get the PC versions. The XBLA/PSN port of Sonic Adventure runs on 4:3 with no AA. The PC versions can be hacked to properly display 16:9 widescreen and force stupidly high amounts of AA even on outdated computers.

So don't get your hopes up for titles such as Shemnue which was released only on Dreamcast because so far it seems that Sega wants to minimize their effort and maximize their revenue.

Even the number of titles they said they'll port "from the Dreamcast" fits the number of Dreamcast titles that Sega PC had ported to the PC years ago.

I dunno. All the current Sonic Adventure impressions have been based on stuff people have dug out on partner net, over half-a-year before the game is even supposed to be sent for certification testing (if they're to do a September release). If they're gonna pull off 18-24 port jobs in the next year, these things might certainly end up being rushed... that part might be true (unless they're all in the works already or SEGA's just busy spinnin' the wheels on their own port-o-tron.)

Anyway, XBLA is already filled with stuff that's been put through the Dreamcast/Naomi Port-o-tron (Soul Calibur, Virtual On OT, Rez HD, Ikaruga, Marvel vs Capcom 2 and probably some other junk I'm forgetting. And they've all turned out fine. With maybe the exception that Namco didn't give Soul Calibur netplay and didn't bother adding the console quest/adventure/story mode content, or whatever. Boo!)

Don't think they'll all be complete train wrecks, and it's still hope for Sonic to turn out perfectly fine (although I hate the game and its reincarnated DX re-release for GC/PC). Besides, how many other games from the Dreamcast era did SEGA ever release on the windows platform anyway? Despite the Dreamcast being a Windows CE-blessed environment.

Something tells me that some of those titles I see on that list (from the Dreamcast era) wont being coming out on XBLA (okay, maybe Bass Fishing, if someone at MS has a hard on for kinect fishing games )

Now, Phantasy Star Online (w/GC version's content and 4 player split-screen + evt. Ep 4 - Blue Burst content) would be super hot if made it to XBLA...
