"One can only match, move by move, the machinations of fate... and thus defy the tyrannous stars." Resident Evil/Castlevania/Silent Hill/Onimusha/Tekken/Dark Souls
Tried out the demo *friend got me PSN Plus as a gift*.
Its pretty good, admittedly I wasn't impressed with the serious frame issues in the first section where Gabriel Spoiler:
Fights the Lycan boss
but admittedly the frame rate does get smoother once it passes the rain sections.
Combat felt pretty good, although and as much as I hate to admit it, VERY similar to God of War.
Story pacing and narrative seem pretty strong also, really liked the orchestral score. Alot different from the old Castlevanias but it suits the mood and tone of the game/demo.

Spoiler:
By Lycan boss you mean Cornell, or another random werewolf?

Yea that sucks about the frame rate issues...oddly enough, most of the development team said the rainy village area is one of levels they're most proud of. The rainy effects are cool, but when there's so much going on that it affects the gameplay, that becomes a bit of a problem. I'm glad it does indeed get better though as you progress through the demo.

Because it's a demo and could be a little earlier in build, it may not be fully optimized and the final game might be okay. Guess we'll have to wait and see.

Yea that's what I'm hoping, I remember them saying earlier in the year that frame rate wasn't their biggest concern at the time so it could very well be from that build. Anyone else getting the collector's edition and/or going to the midnight launch? I'm still jealous the EUR version comes with a mask

I've got a pre-order for the EU CE, so hopefully I'll be getting it early too.
Public console demos these days are usually an offspring from the game's main code/state, with the split being roughly 2-3 months before the demo's release. In other words, always room for lots of engine polish between demo release and *current state of game* - assuming they've got the main game itself locked down and are currently just working on polishing things (and not redesigning things every 5th minute)
^ True. Especially these days. I really think it depends on the developers and what their focus has been, some leave a lot of this till the very end when everything else has been locked down, some do it earlier and then go back to add/fix extra things.
Could explain the lack of it in most online stores (while it still exists in the system at my local store...)
Had a pre-order for it for quite some time too... better come on time (I do however also have Enslaved Collector's Edition coming in on the same day... maybe I'll survive a tiny Castlevania delay... if only it is a tiny one)
Well it didn't pop up for regular download on the US PSN either this week, although I heard - but did not check - that the PAL one has it.
In any case I've been told the demo is a slightly post-modified E3 one, so the final game will be likely be tweaked. The review is up at GameTrailers, I forget the score, but it's good and the review is mostly positive too.
