  • Alice: Madness Returns

    From the official site:

Eleven years ago a horrific fire took Alice’s family from her and left her terribly burned—and her mind terribly scarred. Afterwards she was confined to Rutledge Asylum, struggling to come to terms with her demons by slipping into her fantasy world of Wonderland. Now, after ten years, she has finally secured her release--yet she still bears the heavy psychological burden of that tragic event.

In Alice: Madness Returns, Alice is released from the asylum to a London psychiatrist’s care. As nightmarish hallucinations continue to haunt her and invade her reality, she seeks to understand her torment in order to recover herself. Her mind in tatters, she is unable to resolve the fear and neuroses prompted by her strange memories, dreams, and visions. Her relocation to London seems only to add to their number and intensity.

Perhaps she’ll do better in Wonderland. She always has. She travels there, seeking what the “real” world can’t provide: security, knowledge, and the truth about the past. But in her absence, Wonderland too has suffered. Something has gone horribly wrong, and now a great evil is descending upon what once was her beautiful refuge.

Can Alice save Wonderland—and herself—from the madness that consumes them both?

You can lose your head in Wonderland in June 14th, 2011.
Available on PC, Xbox 360 and PS3.

NEW INFO: New game copies will include a DLC code for the first Alice game. The game includes achievements (trophies too?) for beating the original game, here is the achievement list.

New info provided by rewak, thanks!

Also announced is a digital download only Complete Collection bundle for PC including the game, DLC pack including new dresses and weapons, and the remastered HD version of the first game. It's available through EA's online store. Console copies come with a code to download the first game but you'll probably have to pay for the DLC dresses/weapons and physical copies of the PC version look to be getting none of the extras, they really want you to buy digitally from them if you want the PC version.

The ARTBOOK is out now, though the first pressing has been sold out, and the SOUNDTRACK comes out in a few days. Kinda strange to have these come out before the game since they're pretty big spoilers, especially the artbook.

Also theres a free iPad/iPhone storybook app that re-tells the story of the first game and at the end gives you a discount voucher for the new game that you can use on EA's store. You can also try the standard flash version (without that sexy discount) on Facebook.

I made a thread about this way back in February last year when it was first announced, totally buried and dead now since this is pretty much the first solid update we've got since then. Been excited for this since it was first announced, can't say i'm a fan of the title though, "Madness Returns" sounds like the name of a really shitty fan fiction. The teaser trailer didn't really impress me either. The screenshots however are exactly what i hoped the game would look like, and the concept art on the website is beautiful. Now the loooooong wait for more updates and finally a release. At least progress has been quicker than the movie adaptation.

          <Expletive Deleted> YEAH!

I heard about this like last year at least but assumed it was one of the many games that got canned in the harshness of 09/10 I loved the first one and this is looking good too . . .

^^^ Are those pics from the PC version? Because the textures look kinda like 1st gen 360 pics.

I read this one is coming out on all platforms... including PC.

These are your typical textures for a multiplatform game, running on the UE3.. They look "okay".

I am excited about the game, I enjoyed the first one!

Added this info to the first post too, here's an Q&A with American McGee and RJ Berg (the writer of both Alice & Madness Returns)...

I'm liking the fact that they're going for the full single player experience, and not adding multiplayer for hype (Bioshock 2, I'm looking at you). Great choice.

I gotta say I've never known an American McGee game to look "cutting edge" so I'm not surprised or bothered by the graphics . . .

The storyline is very intriguing too. Is this based on the movie or does it mean that we can expect a sequel? I really didn't care for the movie, but this looks like it has a lot of potential.

No, it has nothing to do with the Burton's movie, if that move you are referring to. It's a fully original story, a sequel to a 2000 game "Alice" that was very loosely "based" on Carroll's novel.

New CG trailer and a few concept art/screenshots. Bored of CG trailers now, as nice as they look, want to see gameplay! Also the picture of Alice in the game looks awful, i hope they clean that up.

Fresh from Japan and some pre-Tokyo Game Show festivities, here's a trailer, screenshots and some art for EA's sequel to Alice.

Game play! Sort of, the guy gets told of just as the game play part starts but its great to see something in game at least. Some new screenshots were released too

That last picture is in the real world, London, where the game starts. It'll be pretty cool to start off in the real world then slip into Wonderland.
