  • Bioshock Infinite - It's Bioshock BUT IN THE SKY !!!!

    Quote:
BioShock Infinite is a first-person shooter currently in development at Irrational Games, the studio behind the original BioShock (which sold over 4 million units worldwide). Set in 1912, BioShock Infinite introduces an entirely new narrative and gameplay experience that lifts players out of the familiar confines of Rapture and rockets them to Columbia, an immense city in the sky.

Former Pinkerton agent Booker DeWitt has been sent to rescue Elizabeth, a young woman imprisoned in Columbia since childhood. Booker develops a relationship with Elizabeth, augmenting his abilities with hers so the pair may escape from a city that is literally falling from the sky. DeWitt must learn to fight foes in high-speed Sky-Line battles, engage in combat both indoors and amongst the clouds, and harness the power of dozens of new weapons and abilities

So... am I the world's most negative person or is this too actually quite "meh"-lookin' so far?

(Also, is it just me or is the use of the BioShock name, despite being one of my least favorite "big/new" IPs this gen, something that reeks of the same type of naming as the XCOM that is not X-COM?)

Umm, what in the actual FUCK is this crap?

As far as I'm concerned, there is no Bioshock without Rapture. They can try whatever they want, but this looks pretty lame at first glance. It's still a ways away, but right now, I really don't like how it looks. Whatsoever.

      EDIT: Here's the official site - http://www.bioshockinfinite.com/main.php

You're not the only one Carn... I'm skeptic but I'm trying to stay positive, so at least I'm happy to hear that the development will be handled by the creator of the first BioShock game, Ken Levine, and not by those dic*s over 2K Marin.

Did they transplant Bioshock into the air so it could fly over the shark?

I'm with the WTF people, i mean yeah Rapture couldn't exactly last but this is so un-Bioshock like. It looks like a good game don't get me wrong, just not exactly a Bioshock game.

To me, it seems next to impossible to have BioShock without Big Daddies/Big Sisters. They were all nautical based with deep sea diving suits and whatnot, so what can they really do with this in the air? It would be stupid to have a nautical based creature up in the air for no apparent reason. They could always have them in flight suits, I suppose, but I'm not too thrilled on that idea either.

I am curious to see how this pans out, but without Rapture, Andrew Ryan, and Big Daddies, its not really BioShock. I'm sure this isn't in a sense BioShock 3, but rather a new interpretation of a distopia in the sky. Hopefully, they don't do something like Big Mommies and Little Brothers.

Despite the radical change in atmosphere I like the idea of a city in the sky.
It seems this game is set in the late 1800's, making it some kind of a prequel. My guess is that this will have some connection with the first two titles, that would make sense using Bioshock on the name... Maybe someone related to Andrew Ryan?

                  1912.

Irrational seemed uninterested in even trying to connect the two games from what Ken said. Good chance it's just a new universe that still revolves around genetic manipulation as the main gameplay element and that the setting is utopia. Except, it looks like YOU'LL be the one turning an ideal city on it's own head.

Well, I do love me some flying cities...but the apparent lack of connection i enemies and story to the first two games is concerning. I'm interested to see where this goes for now. I love the first game, and the second was alright. I don't think it's jumped the shark yet, but then, I'm not opposed to something new as long as it's done well.

I'm going to assume that this city will, eventually, feature some of the same basics as the first two...maybe the security force you fight keeps upping the dose of genetic mods to fight you and can't handle it. So splicers. And they'll be some moral conundrums for you.

Well I'm optimistic I love airships and the steampunk genre and it's gonna be interesting seeing how this works out I've been playing my way through 1 & 2 just recently and I'm well up for more plasmid based fun. It's a nice extreme from the very depths of the ocean to thousands of feet in the air sure I'm interested . . .

Then it would have to ditch the whole utopia concept and not have genetic manipulation be a major theme to not call it "Bio".

I like the idea, as with most people, the title needs work. I can understand why they selected Bioshock for the title but I feel that it needs its own distinct title. Bioshock conjures up Rapture to me. Since the new or pre "Big Daddy" seems to use a heart, I guess its going to be an ex-lover of the woman driven to Jealousy or something.

So instead of Ayn Rand, we're getting Portrait of the Artist by James Joyce, steampunked? Uh...huh....Well the trailer certainly looked interesting (little sister's showing off some cleavage now, so looks like they aren't so little) and it looked pretty. Don't really know if I like the idea of Bioshock coming out of the sea though...and back in time.
