  • Dead Nation (PSN)

Spent a few hours last night playing the Dead Nation beta. Coming from Housemarque, I expected Super Stardust HD with zombies, but it's not like SSHD at all. It's more of a top-down L4D, with more light and shade. It's not a relentless onslaught like SSHD. I had a good time with it. Has local co-op, but no online MP (yet - seems like an obvious candidate for DLC).

Certain elements are reminiscent of classic RE. When using the female protagonist in the city, I got a real Claire RE2 vibe. The fact that my objective was to make it to the police station just added to that. There's also a "walk in the park" level that reminded me a little of RE3 and one particular mutated enemy type with a protruding ribcage who looks like he's just stepped out of an Umbrella Lab. The weapon upgrade system feels a lot like RE4/5 which is great.

It's not an RE rip-off by any means - it has plenty of original ideas; I'm just pointing out some similarities. Anyway, I think RE fans will enjoy it. Quality zombie outbreak games are always welcome.

Wow, that's great that you're getting to play the beta. And it is promising to see that you are at least coming away from it with a positive vibe. I'm interested in this title, yet wary because I was equally hyped for Zombie Apocalypse...and that game was very, very, VERY terrible. (I'm still sorry nemesiswontdie, for encouraging you to also waste money on that title all those months ago.) So Consoul, if you would, please keep adding your thoughts on this title as you experience more with the beta, as I for one will be monitoring the thread for your insight.

I think Housemarque will be capable of a good-if-not-great title. SSHD is certainly one kick ass game - if only I hadn't burnt myself out on it when I first purchased it. Hopefully, hopefully, hopefully they can make lightning strike again and give me a zombie apocalypse game that worthy of my time & money. (If I had an Xbox I'd definitely buy L4D & L4D2 to meet this need...)

    *fingers crossed*

Hahaha. Oh man that was a fucking god awful game. That thing will never be downloaded on my PSN ever again. Same goes for Wolfenstien and TMNT.

No online co-op in a game like this is a massive disappointment. Then again, Super Stardust didn't have that feature when it first came out either, and it was patched in later with DLC. Online co-op would make this a day one purchase, though. I dunno if I'd be willing to wait around for it to be added in.

I just watched the new trailer for the game on the PSN. It looks pretty cool!

It gave me a warm fuzzy feeling seeing an old school style, RE looking game but with ultra crisp graphics and SHITLOADS of zombies on the screen.
It makes me wish Capcom would do something similar, with some RE spin-off games.

I hope its a decent size game. I'll be picking it up for sure!!!

Uh, yeah, it's hilarious. I don't plan on playing this game online again until voice chat is patched in.

Yeah I think it is hilarious because I think its probably the dumbest thing that it could have done for its online.

I still have yet to play online because it won't find a partner. Fuck it, still fun lol.

No voice chat is about as retarded decision as can get.

I sent a message to PlayStation's Twitter account about the issue and they said to me: "Check out the Blog tomorrow"

                              So, we'll see.
