Spent a few hours last night playing the Dead Nation beta. Coming from Housemarque, I expected Super Stardust HD with zombies, but it's not like SSHD at all. It's more of a top-down L4D, with more light and shade. It's not a relentless onslaught like SSHD. I had a good time with it. Has local co-op, but no online MP (yet - seems like an obvious candidate for DLC).
Certain elements are reminiscent of classic RE. When using the female protagonist in the city, I got a real Claire RE2 vibe. The fact that my objective was to make it to the police station just added to that. There's also a "walk in the park" level that reminded me a little of RE3 and one particular mutated enemy type with a protruding ribcage who looks like he's just stepped out of an Umbrella Lab. The weapon upgrade system feels a lot like RE4/5 which is great.
It's not an RE rip-off by any means - it has plenty of original ideas; I'm just pointing out some similarities. Anyway, I think RE fans will enjoy it. Quality zombie outbreak games are always welcome.
