  • The Thing (Video Game)

Gary, a friend of mine from the Outpost31.com forums has recently developed and released a mod for the PC version of the game that vastly improves the gameplay experience, focusing more on the paranoia emphasis that the film captivated by creating dynamic infection and distrust between you and your comrades.

Surprisingly, this game is even moddable even without the engine/editor, but very limited. I know as I have done some modding myself using a hex editor program.

Much like Resident Evil 1.5, the beta version of The Thing (game) was actually much better than the final product. They used more emphasis on paranoia and distrust between NPC's, the wearing of hoods while outdoors in the freezing temperatures, more unique looking monsters, dynamic infection, a better story/plot, and much more.

This video demonstrates what the beta version accomplished that the final did not:

Gary's mod pretty much does everything the beta version had promised us (read above). If anyone here is interested feel free to visit the following for more information:

I used to love playing that game when I had it on Xbox. It was one of my favorites, but the thing is, it got more and more difficult that I gave up on it.

They're making a prequel to The Thing. Maybe they'll make a game based on it and hopefuly fix all the problems the first game had.

I really like the film but the game was just ok.

They were also planning to make a sequel to the first game vastly improving from what went wrong in the first one. Unfortunately, Computer Artworks shut down and the project was canceled.

I think the new movie will spark more interest in the franchise (?). Maybe then Universal will hand it over to a better team.

However, the first movie as good as it was, was actually a box office flop back in the days. Who knows if there will be much interest from mainstream moviegoers.

EDIT: I just read that John Carpenter is not involved in the prequel. Bummer.
