Fable III

Anyone else played this yet? Spent a few hours on it so far, and gotta say, HUGE improvement on Fable II. Combat feels better, RPG elements more streamlined, you can have a female character that doesn't end up looking like a man.

I'm going to be the next Sir Alan Sugar and build my own business empire on it too!

I got it on the midnight relelase, and I loved it! I beat it in little over 11 hours (with a heavy amount of off-story exploration and questing). I too thought it a vast improvement from Fable 2, not that I had much beef with Fable 2.

The moral choices when one becomes king actually turned out to be very difficult, which makes your job a lot harder, and makes the gaming experience deeper. I actually found myself caring for what actually happened.

When playing, I right off the bat worked until I could afford my own house. Buying and renting out property is the best method I've found to make a lot of money pretty damn quick.

11 hours for an RPG doesn't exactly sound so good .. reminds me of the original Fable which I remember beating in around 6 hours or so .. Fable 2 was a pretty damn good game in comparison. Hope this one's more like 2 than 1.

NOT amused at all. Being given no warning at the end when it suddenly skipped from being 121 days away from the attack to 1, with no chance to prepare my treasury and millions of people dying. Really shitty, that. Not happy.

The Crawler is really fucked up though. A nice change to have something so disturbing in a Fable game.

I was also really quite angry about that. It's like they forced you into it without warning xD

But don't worry, if you put money back into the treasury, Albion will start to repopulate.

It's just really crappy gaming mechanics. In Mass Effect 2 (my current best game ever), they warn you like 3 times before you head into the Omega 4 Relay "Perhaps we should build up a team before we go in there" then even if you set the course for the relay, EDI gives you a chance to change your mind and warns you that once you commit yourself, there's no going back. Fable 3 just lobs you into the ending with no warning. I also felt the ending was quite poor. The Crawler part on Aurora was really good and it was actually quite fucked up, in a good way though. Was scarier to me than anything in Resi 5, and most of the stuff in Resi 4. Being trapped in a dark cave with some weird darkness monster saying about ripping the flesh off your bones etc, it felt like quite fresh in a Fable game where it's usually happiness and bunnies. The ending though, you just fought a few shadow monsters, fought the Crawler in the old guy's body and BAM! Done. The end bosses are always too easy. Would have been a lot better for me if the Crawler had completely messed Albion up and you had to fight your way through the darkness to fight the Crawler in his true form, and if it played a little more on the psychological horror aspect of it. Running down a few streets to fight an easy boss doesn't do it for me.

Felt the same for Theresa. The story is pretty poor. Well, not poor, but I'm fed up of the lack of continuity between the games. Still no explanation as to what Theresa is or why she wanted the Spire, no explanation as to why she now calls herself "The Seer of the Spire" or anything really.

I want some characters from the Blades family returning.

I was pretty dissapointed with this game. Not sure why but I didn't find it very engaging and I felt that the game was way too short (which is pretty strange because I loved fable 1 and 2 and neither of those were particularly long). One thing I did love about this game is the way your weapons mutate depending on how you use them. I also feel that they really rushed the whole crawler plot hell he was only in it for the last quater of the game! The second half of the game once you have become king was also prety short. When I first heard that you became king after you win the rvolution I thought that you would be making decisions on who to wage war agains etc.

Anyway thats my view on the game.

All told, a little bit disapointed.

I'll admit, I'm a bit disapointed by several factors. The storyline was weak, for my money. I was fine until you beat Logan, but the Crawler was just...meh. It showed up twice and was never that intimidating. Personally, I'd rather Logan didn't bother with the heel/face turn, had instead escaped the reveloution and then became the big, uber bad making deals with devils to reclaim his throne. The whole 'it was for the greater good' thing didn't impress me. You don't hire Reaver or randomly force your sibling to kill people for the great good. You do that because you're a dick.

I also found the sanctuary idea awkward. I didn't mind rummaging through a couple of menu's to find the clothes I wanted. This one felt a bit too dumbed down, and the loss of options was disapointing.

Fortunately, my knowledge of Fable II meant that I was buying up buisnesses left, right and centre, so money was never a big issue. I soon owned every buisness in the game and a good chunk of the houses. Getting the cash for the end didn't take a huge effort.

Again, though, the ending was a let down. I had the same issue with Fable II...epic stor, epic story...oh, that was the end? This one did the same thing but more so. The Crawler appeared for about two seconds.

The one good thing that I did enjoy was the my wife got to play the whole game with me. That was a blast. Next time, it would be even better if they modified the game to acknowladge a guest character, but other than that it was fun.
