I'm not sure what you mean Kylie for me it's the opposite the recent trilogy was fulfilled story wise on it's major points not leaving much room for a deeper and compelling story. Continuing from underworld would be making sequels just for the sake of it

RE4 (I presume?) was a continuation of the RE story, it just departed from zombies and other virus monsters/B.O.Ws.

This TR is like if after RECV they decided to screw the unanswered story points and retcon RE1,2,3 and CV out of existance.
It was RE4. You forget though that what we know of RE4 and what happened since wasn't the case back in early 04 when they first showed off the game. All we had was the fact Leon was in it, there was no traditional zombies, no Umbrella, and it took place several years after the current series at the time. At that stage it looked exactly like they'd departed and left the rest of the series out of existance.

Thats why I said your comments looked exactly like the ones I saw then.

I guess what I'm really saying though is a CG trailer and some scans of a magazine aren't going to tell you everything. What we got in the end and how the series turned out was different than those original expectations. I have no idea that this Tomb Raider will or won't be any different to that.

Crystal Dynamics were going to make a direct sequel to Underworld, but after giving it a lot of thought decided to go in a new direction.

I've been a fan of TR since day one as well, and have enjoyed every game since then. Even Angel of Darkness, when it first came out anyway(Then I actually realized it was a buggy mess).

I played Underworld just a few times and haven't touched it since, it just isn't a fun game and I felt the story could have used more "oomph". Where could they go now? Most of her life was built around finding her mother and possibly following her dad's footsteps. Now that she killed two birds with one stone, she really had no motivation to keep adventuring.

I look at the Crystal Dynamics trilogy as a partial reboot, they just started continuing where Core left off instead of doing what they are doing now with the actual Reboot. And out of all the reboots, this one is actually needed.....unlike Devil May Cry

Anyways, here's the Tomb Raider (Alpha) stage demo from the Xbox conference. I think it looks great so far, if a bit rushed in the climbing animation(probably to speed up the presentation).

        EDIT:

Enjoy the videos and music you love, upload original content, and share it all with friends, family, and the world on YouTube.

Gameplay demo is sweet but still the same problem for me, it just doesn't feel like Lara or TR. Square-Enix are calling the shots and i have no doubt in my mind they called for the reboot, not Eidos and not Crystal, and let's face it SE's decisions lately have been damn poor. I'm interested (more so with the gameplay than the CGI trailer must say) but i'm not 100% sold on it yet.

Great demo. This is exactly what Tomb Raider needed, that feeling of anxiety.

I don't know what you're talking about at all. It totally feels like a Tomb Raider game. Get to a part, have to figure out a way to advance, solve a little puzzle, and then go on. And then the place starts crumbling down and you have to the hell out of dodge before it all comes down.

Those are both staples of the series.

And of course SE is calling the shots. It's their game.

I love the series, but I also love the direction they are seeming to go with this. I just think people get hung up on the old ways of doing things. Some people just do not like change, whatsoever.

Not everything is going to the be same, hun.

I suggest you not play the game if you don't like the direction. Also, way to ignore everything else I said.

I didn't ignore it, but if you really want to me to comment then that puzzle solving you mention is kind of redundant when you got detective vision highlighting and telling you everything needed to solve something.

                    • It highlights the pieces of the puzzle. It doesn't tell you what to do with them. There's still some level of thinking involved. The environment seems to have a lot going on with it, thus them probably deciding to highlight what you need to interact with. If I remember correctly, the developer called it Lara's "survival instinct".

                      • TR puzzles really didn't need any form of dumbing down.

                        • They aren't really dumded down though? The same kind of system is used in a few other games like Assassin's Creed and Batman Arkham Asylum, because they fit that style of game. This new game isn't like the old ones in terms of how you play it, so they can't exactly rely on the same old.

                          • Wow..that trailer was... certainly over dramatic. It was nicely done and all but it felt kind of forced to me, they're really pushing the grittiness.

                            • I loved the demo it's what I expected from the game and I agree with Vogue the gameplay was vintage TR a few highlighted objects ruining puzzles? Cmon Kylie I think you're just nitpicking now

                              • Sorry but searching out items and figuring out what things to use to solve a puzzle or obstacle was always a big part of TR and it kind of becomes pointless when everything is made obvious.
