  • ^ I tried making this point early on by saying what we knew about RE4 when it was first announced and shown was different to what we got, so who knows how bad or good it'll be till it arrives.... but it's like talking to a brick wall and I kinda realized I would be the same way it was the flipside. I think everyone should just leave KylieDog to their opinion and if you like it, then cool, and if not it's cool too.

How is it a weak defense? Its a tool that you can either use or turn off. No one is putting a damn gun to your head and forcing you to use it.

When the game comes out you can run around and solve the puzzles to your hearts content without having to use her survival instinct mode, however, it is there if someone needs it.

So I don't really see what your complaint is.

        • I'm honestly looking forward to this game. The E3 Gameplay was great looking I thought and they weren't lying when they said they were changing the game. Very well done and I just HOPE that it's at least halfway decent.

          • The unbroadcast portion of Crystal's current Tomb Raider demo gives a sense of what the actual substance of the game will presumably resemble. Where the stage demo was all physical punishment and quick-time events to escape creepy men, the private demo was more about Lara coming to terms with her situation and exploring her new environs in a more traditional action game sense. Crystal still isn't showing off how the game's combat will work; the demo's latter portion is set a short way into the story, and while Lara carries a bow she's unable to use it yet. Her actions are still limited to exploration and evasion, scrambling across an abandoned cliffside village of wood huts and thatched roofs in pursuit of a radio transmitter that's been taken by a pack of wolves. The demo ends with Lara infiltrating the wolves' lair, but even when the beasts attack, the fight plays out as another QTE.

            • Haven't Crystal learned yet that QTE's suck ass and no one wants them? Apparently not, way to really move the series forward.

The sad thing is that people who want their games to look like movies (which is, a lot of the so-called hardcore gamers) do like QTE because, well, it helps games look like movies while still being kind of interactive :/

I just hope that the game itself isn't so full of QTE as the demo they were showing on MS conference. I want to be in a full control of my character, and not watch an interactive cut-scenes.

                  Balls.

When QTE's are done right, they're fine.

However...QTE's like "HAMMER A TO OPEN CHEST" are bollocks.

                  • QTE's in TRL/A/U were annoying, like Mr.Zombie said i want control of the character, given that it's the same developer i'm holding no hope. QTE's are the dumbest most unimaginative form of gameplay if you can even call it gameplay.

There was no QTE in Underworld; they've replaced it with slow-motion sections, but the player was still in full control of the character.

                      • Ah yes i remember them now, it's been a while since i played through Underworld.

                        • To be fair about the QTEs..

How else would she fight off attackers? Sure they could throw in a melee punch and kick system.....but that would be retarded to see Lara punch a wolf in the face.

Since their focus in the very beginning of the game is exploration before combat, I'm not bothered by QTEs the first few enemy encounters.

The bow, ice axe, shotgun and the dual pistols will be used. The question that is on my mind is will the combat system be updated to something that is fun to play.

                          • Agreed. The QTEs in the beginning make perfect sense, seeing as how Lara is disoriented, hurt, and unarmed.

Plus the game is focused of turning Lara from a scared young woman to the hardened survivor she is now, so it seems like combat with come naturally as Lara has to adapt to survive. And honestly, the QTEs in the demo made perfect sense for the context. I hate when games put in QTEs in randomly just for the sake of having them.

                            • Honestly why does she need mash buttons to climb out the cave instead of just holding forward to move forward? What good reason is there for making the player mash controller butons?
