Announcement on forthcoming release of
FINAL FANTASY XIII-2
A sequel to “FINAL FANTASY XIII”

London (18 January 2011) – Square Enix Ltd., the publisher of SQUARE ENIX® interactive entertainment products in Europe and other PAL territories, today announces a new release for next winter, FINAL FANTASY® XIII-2 for the PlayStation®3 computer entertainment system and the Xbox 360® video game and entertainment system from Microsoft. A sequel to “FINAL FANTASY XIII” originally released in Europe in March 2010 that has since shipped a cumulative total of 6 million units worldwide.

“FINAL FANTASY XIII-2” is currently in production with an aim for producing high quality game content which exceeds “FINAL FANTASY XIII” in every aspect; namely, a brand-new story which stems from the previous title as well as a battle system which has evolved further since “XIII” – and more. We will be disclosing further details about the new game in the future.

From the release of the first FINAL FANTASY in 1987, this unique RPG series has continued to offer the industry’s most advanced graphics, highly imaginative worlds and rich stories as it gains the highest accolades from users around the world. Titles in the series have so far achieved a cumulative shipment of over 97 million units worldwide (* as of September 2010).

I'm hoping for Final Fantasy 13-2 to be much more open ended and have much more exploration/interaction with the world around you (towns please). It's nice to wish for things but this is good news for myself personaly as I did enjoy 13 for what it is and did have a great experiance with the game (that damn turtoise grinding!) so it's nice to another chapter in this world. Hopefully it goes into a few things into more detail.

Reminds me that I still need to beat XIII. I really did like it, I just kinda forgot to keep playing after reaching the grand expanse that is Pulse.

The franchise seems to have become somewhat of a disappointment this generation.

Especialy with XIII and the guided-experience gameplay that seems designed for newbies. Also, the intrusive cutscenes seem to get worse with each edition. It's like they want you to have a specific experience. But to do that, they cut down on how much freedom you have. Bummer.

However, I hope that the series picks up before this gen is over. Or it will become irrelevant in future ones.

Didn't they learn the first time they did a -2 game? And i want a VIII remake more than a VII one, always considered it to be a better story and game, they've killed what VII once was anyway with endless shitty tie ins. That picture at the top is very VIII.....

yeah, because Sqaure-Enix is going to jump on the ball and release a several hundred million dollar project that could literally take 10 years to make.

as for FFX-III. whether i wanted it to happen or not, i don't really care. if its more expansive of a game, then it woull be at least different.

Ever since Sqaure became Sqaure-Enix they have been messing upalot not just with Final Fantasy but other games they been getting there hands on im not the only one who think this right.

Any way I caint help but laugh at the new title for Final Fantasy Agito no sorry I mean Type O it sound ugly.

I had a feeling we would be seeing Final Fantasy XIII-2 real soon the ending of XIII was weried evan by Final Fantasy standed alot like X and lets not forget how well X-2 went. I will come out and say it XIII was an ok game I have just about every Final Fantasy game apart from I and III and I know what I am saying I enjoyed XIII. The game did have flaw in it the stroy was a 5th grade and the first half of the game was linear. The main thing that I was more pissed off about more than any thing about the game was there was no Prelude or victory song I mean WTF why change one of the main icon of Final Fantasy.

As for Final Fantasy XIII-2 I have to say im intrested I can only hope XIII-2 can redeem it's self. Saying that I've been reading fans messages from what they think about the game and they are in a grips with XIII-2 it shemes they think this game will be as bad as X-2. I can only hope Sqaure-Enix has listen to what the fans did not like about XIII and fix the main problems like giveing us a better story and an open world with towns and shops ect but saying that Sqaure-Enix listening to fans would be like asking God comeing down to earth and telling us what the meaning of life is.

Been waiting on Versus since 2006. That gameplay looks fucking amazing...like a true mix of Kingdom Hearts and FF.

Still haven't played XIII although I might in the future, and after the debacle that was FFX-2, I don't know if I'll bat an eyelash at XIII-2, depending on how the first game goes. I just find it curious that a game that reviewed well but was reviled by the vast majority of the fanbase is getting a sequel.

Type-0 has been on my radar for a while as well, and Square's portable titles have been killer over the last few years.

Dissidia Duodecim Final Fantasy boasts the same roster as the original, plus many more -- including additions such as Tifa Lockheart(7), Laguna Loire(8), Yuna(10), Vaan(12) and Lightning(13). This new trailer (http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=xC7hVu5ui_c) also shows off what appears to be Gilgamesh near the end.

I'm currently playing Final Fantasy VII, but I can't stand these newer Final Fantasy games. Everything from X onward is just horrible in my opinion. Final Fantasy hasn't been the same since it left the PS1.

And Square is always trying to re-create Cloud with the main character of each game. It has really gotten old.
