  • This will be the first DMC game I'll play and I've always been biased by the series' "anime" style so never gave it too much attention. I'm curious to see what I'll think about it.

Nope. A reboot should happen only when the series becomes a clusterfuck in which the story makes it impossible to make the games in any other way than the current style. If a zombie apocalipse scenario had happened than a reboot would be ideal because in that kind of situation it would be impossible to have something like Outbreak, RE2 or Survivor. But after RE6 is totally possible for Capcom to say "Hey, let's try make a game with fewer explosions and people who turn into dogs that turn into T-Rexes that turn into flies."

This is the exact reason I was never interested in the older games until I saw this reboot.

      • the series had an anime style? blows my mind, considering the Divine Comedy is of European background, least in the 1st and 3rd one.

          I meant the character design.

Fullmetal Alchemist barrows a lot from the same book. And its 100% anime.

BTW, the book was quoted several times in Resident Evil Revelations (and even appears in the game).

            • Ninja Theory made their finest creation. Their previous works were artistically strong but somewhat choppy in gameplay. This new DmC manages to succeed in both. It is very fluid and refined in motion, and the level design is one of the most daring and visually impressive in its class. I have to admit they really did exceed expectations. Personal score is 9/10.

              • I don't have much interest in "DmC", especially after seeing the opening. It just has that forced, childish LOOK HOW DAMN COOL AND HARDCORE THIS IS, WOAHHHHH stuff going on. I'll pass until it drops to about £6 on Steam.

Did you accidentally boot up Devil May Cry 3 or 4 instead of DmC?

                  • DMC3 and DMC4 suffered from it too, but they felt like they were lampooning themselves. DmC felt like it was trying to be gratuitous and yet dead serious (and "cool") about it.

Of course, that's just the impression I got from the opening. The game is quite likely very different.

                    • Actually DmC does force some childish understanding of cool. It can be annoying at times, yes, but it's not a secret that they were going for a younger audience with this one.
Sure the game is full of drugs/sex/violence/profanity/dubstep/Combichrist and all the other great things in life, but still it's a pretty good mix (and a wild one at that) with a strong sense of style. I'd say you don't have to be a retarded kid to enjoy it.

                      • One of the tiny details I really appreciate in the new one is the way they've modernized old rituals and sorcery with modern technology on the "good guys" team.

To take on reoccuring sample in the game; the use of like pre-made witch brew on spraycans and using them in combination with stencils for quick creation of ritual marks and stuff. Kinda nice "modernization" of stuff that tends to be clogged up by pacing breaking voodoo ritual bullshit.

Also, they've got a slurm factory. I laughed.

My biggest issue with the new one is that the hardest difficulty available on boot isn't really hard at all. It's a cakewalk. So I probably have to beat the game a few times before I get a challenge ... and I hate replaying things these days

                        • I wasn't to impressed with this game at all. I liked the gameplay but it seems more simple. The story didn't bother me either but was "off". I don't know, I ended up returning it.

                          • DmC is a good chance for the franchise to go full mainstream. What happened with RE (since RE4) could happen with DMC. And it should be able to thrive beyond its original fan base.

It already had a great start with critics and it seems gamers have been somewhat receptive to it. At least in the UK:

DmC Devil May Cry overtakes FIFA 13 for number 1 in UK sales charts

" Say what you want about the new DmC Devil May Cry, but it has managed to do something not many new releases could -- overtake FIFA 13 in the UK sales charts.

Capcom's new hack n' slash action game has ended FIFA 13's run at the top and was number 1 in its debut.

As noted by GfK Chart-Track, DmC is Capcom's first "All Formats No. 1" since Resident Evil 5 all the way back in 2009."
But it seems that the current crisis in the videogame retail market in the UK, has slowed down DmC's sales:

"Unfortunately, as compared to previous games in the franchise, DmC Devil May Cry's sales look meager. The new DmC, developed by Ninja Theory, sold "just over a third" of what Devil May Cry 4 did at launch back in 2008."

                            • As someone on Youtube quite right says, this is the sound of the biggest backpedal in gaming in a long long time.

It's coming as DLC at the end of month, and.... I love it. Watching this tricks me into a believing all is right with the franchise again, haha. j/k.

(And I'm not trolling, I'm a huge fan of the old series, and whilst this new dmc looks okay, it's just not for me unfortunately)
