Interesting, do you have link? I don't frequent large forums often.

That might expain the amount of bugs near the end; it honestly aggravated me not being able to finish a quest.

ZAM: As a final question then, to get back to Dragon Age 2… In comparison to Dragon Age: Origins, would you say that your level of satisfaction and confidence in Dragon Age 2 is much higher than Dragon Age: Origins?

Mark: I'm actually much happier with Dragon Age 2 than I was with Dragon Age: Origins. Don't get me wrong, DA:O was a great game, but when you do development on DA:O for as long as we did (five years), the game starts to drift a little bit, in terms of overall vision. Dragon Age 2, because it was developed over the course of about a year and a half, has been able to stay a lot truer to its original vision, so it's a purer implementation, I would say.

ZAM: So it's like the writing process; if you write a book over five years, it can drift around as you chase different narrative threads, but if you write a book over the course of a year, you stay focused on the path you choose, and you end up with a cleaner story. Is this approach of more focused development going to be the path you plan to take with development in the future?

Mark: I'm not saying that we'll be doing a Dragon Age a year (chuckles), but I don't think we'll go away for five years again

Take in pre production and planning, the game would of been developed with just over a year. Crazy stuff.

Ladies and gentleman, a non spoiler fileld question if I may - how important is your character from the first game? I mean, I assume it's not Mass Effect level important where a bunch of your decisions come back to say 'hi!' Is it just in what people say, that kinda thing?

Yep, it is that kind of thing. Only part of the history.

If I remember correctly if you're a mage and if you're DAO character was a mage Bethany mentions something about you being the cousin to the hero of Ferelden. Its something like that, I'm not 100% sure on how to get that reference.

Belated post but im pretty busy nowadays.
My Warden in DA1 was a human mage, *who's actually the cousin of Hawke as explained by Leandra Hawke coming from the Amell clan* so all the references to the Warden in my DA2 were that of his being a mage, Cullen also had original dialogue of the Mage Warden also.

Thanks nemesis and The Dude, that explains why I have not experienced this since I played with a warrior. My DA1 was a human mage though (not that it matters).

Kind of silly that something like that gets mentioned in the game only if your DA1 and DA2 characters were mages.

Wait, maybe as long as both characters were the same classes then...?

I hope they spend a little more time with the next Dragon Age. I really enjoyed DA2, but I couldn't get myself to play it a second run compared to DA1 which I played about 5 times. I'm kinda in the same camp of people that feel it felt rushed and that the story was too narrow compared to the first. Choices you made had little significance, the ending is pretty much the same no matter what with a couple ridiculous events that force it to be so.

The gameplay was good though. I enjoyed it. I played it on PC, so I didn't have to press the buttons for every basic attack (like apparently the console versions do?), so I still pretty much paused and issued a few tactical commands and let it go. It being a tad bit more fast paced was good for me (I liked DA1 system too though). My only complaint would be the same one a lot of people have where in a lot of cases, enemies just keep pouring in at random from silly locations. Too many fodder enemies. Game could have still been fast paced without the idea of swarming you with baddies and then spawning even more from odd locations.

I could go on about what I felt was good/bad, but eh, no need for a wall of text.

Improving the gameplay (fighting) was the thing that DA:O needed. I loved DA:O mainly for its story, I was never fond of fighting enemies as I always felt it was too dull. With DAII, they significantly improved this area. Fighting was a lot of fun; I loved the wicked animations and I actually had full control of the battlefield. This was a definite improvement of the predecessor.

With this, DAII almost became the perfect game. The problem was the short story and as Alzaire mentioned before me, the fact that you cannot really alter destiny as much as you could in DA:O. I did not like the idea of a singular hero who was followed through history, true that this was a new breath of air in the world of RPG - as someone mentioned - but it kind of killed the freedom that DA:O had. Perhaps if they used a couple more years on development, we could have gotten a bigger and better (in terms of storyline) game.
