hopefully from the scarce information that is revealed that DOOM4 will go back to its roots. id software needs to strike some controversy back into this industry, therefore, by whatever means of them saying it'll play like DOOM1, then maybe they'll bring back that satanic and demonic imagery that helped spawned the game ratings to begin with.
Everytime someone makes a "Doom 3 - Can't see shit" joke/reference, I always wonder whether or not they actually played the game (and if they did; on what terrifyingly crappy screen they used and at what absurd contrast/brightness settings).
The game rarely put you in completely dark places with any other enemy types than the very basic ones (ie. imps.) and I seriously had no problems playing through the game (VANILLA - no silly mods) on Veteran on a DELL Inspiron 9100 w/no mouse (used the KNOB on the keyboard).
Nintendo - Some crap party or casual stuff for Wii nobody who watches E3 cares about as well as flogging the new Zelda more. All major focus on 3DS games and talks of how people love it and how Project Cafe will change gaming again.
With the exception of like one year, Nintendo's conference has always been the game changer that's kinda put everyone else to shame and caught people off guard (though, MS' been giving them a good run for the money lately). Of course, it might not be the most interesting to those who're just waiting for the trailer to the next CoD map pack or something similar...
I agree with you about Doom 3 Carn. It wasn't really that bad in how everyone exaggerates the darkness. And to be honest, the flashlight or gun mechanic didn't bother me one bit. It's probably one of my favorite games on my Xbox.
Well every company had their disasters relatively recently.
Sony had theirs with the craptacular 2006 E3 showing. If you remember, most of it was a lot of boring stats and sales figures that illustrated how Sony dominated the entire industry and how that wasn't going to change any time soon (pfffft!). Then they started gabbin' about the UMD format and how successful it was. Then they finally talked about the PS3. After revealing that they had dumped the batwing controller pad, they introduced the sixaxis dual shock thingy. Which failed to go anywhere and was responsible for sending FACTOR 5 to an early grave (Lair bombed, remember that shit?). Then the whole thing went to hell when they announced how much the PS3 was going to sell for.
And MS got freaking ridikulas with their 2010 Kinect launch. With the freak show de Solei and making the audience wear oversized condoms with shoulder pads. The whole thing is hard to describe. It was trippy.
However, its interesting to notice that some companies came out pretty good from their respective 'disasters'. Not all of them, though.
Stuff to remember: Avoid forums if you're having a bad day.
