An update from Sony regarding this:

An external intrusion on our system has affected our PlayStation Network and Qriocity services. In order to conduct a thorough investigation and to verify the smooth and secure operation of our network services going forward, we turned off PlayStation Network & Qriocity services on the evening of Wednesday, April 20th. Providing quality entertainment services to our customers and partners is our utmost priority. We are doing all we can to resolve this situation quickly, and we once again thank you for your patience. We will continue to update you promptly as we have additional information to share.

I keep hearing that they did it on our behalf to punish sony etc blah blah. But in the end it's however many millions of people minus the assholes that perpetrated this bullshit suffering the consequences. Holier than thou horseshit is all it is.

at least you can still unlock singleplayer trophies when you are not online. I thought that you had to be connected to the psn to achieve trophies

I really think people who "attack" major corporations are just nothing short of stupid. I get so sick of people attacking, hacking and making viruses like it really accomplishes something. If you hate Sony, Microsoft, or whatever, just ignore their products. You don't have to ruin things for those who actually enjoy using it.

To me, it is disrepectful and childish.

When Alexander becomes Grand Tyrant of Earth, people in this bracket of society will be sterilized and then forced into labor camps creating PS3's. When they are too old to work, they will be thrown into a meat grinder and fed to those still living in said camps.

Seriously though, PS Network being down has inconvienced me all day. I couldn't play Mercenaries with anyone aside from myself, and every time I log into Netflix, I get told three times that I must sign into PS Network in order to use Netflix's services...Luckily, it gives up after that third time and still lets me watch stuff.
