Was my partners card info on at the time but he just cancelled it for a new card this morning, end of worry as far as that goes.

Predictable that someone would try their luck, but they'll ultimately fail and lose a lot of money in the process i would've thought.

I can't say I agree with people's urge to just sue, sue, sue, when something like this comes about, but Sony having such a vulnerable security system really sets them up for a lawsuit.

          Joystiq: PSN Lawsuit

I am quite pissed with Sony about this, but I really don't feel the need to sue because I have really incurred no damage at the present time. I don't really feel any more or less vulnerable about identity theft then I did prior to PSN being hacked. My personal information is every where (just like most other people's), and if someone REALLY wanted to be me, I'm sure it wouldn't be that difficult to track down details to apply for credit in my name or whatever.

The thing that annoys me most in this whole situation is that Sony does not have a concrete answer on if credit card information was stolen. I don't see the point in going through all the hassle of getting a new credit card (and in my case debit card) for no reason. Would it make me feel better knowing that these hackers no longer have access to my bank information? Definitely, but until Sony says that bank information was compromised, then I will just keep monitoring my bank statements closely.

I do no expect compensation, nor am I asking for it, but a formal apology for the loss of valuable information is needed. Things like this happen, I understand that. Tighten the belt, Sony, and let's move on!

Sony WILL need to make some sort of gesture of an apology, i would bet money on it being a free game from the PSN.

Little Big Planet would be my guess.

It'd be ironic if it was something like MAG or Warhawk, a multiplayer-only title. Shit, I hope it's not Warhawk. I already have that game.

                I never liked Warhawk.

ModNation Racers would be a nice pick...considering an old game, though.

Warhawk was fun. Doubt anyone still plays that game anymore sadly.

Thing is, I notice that a lot of people are so eager to either jump on the anti-Sony bandwagon or bitch and whine about getting something for free as compensation. Sony are as much victims of this as we are, it's not like they hacked their own system or deliberately invited these unscrupulous individuals to steal this information. Granted, this will serve as a valuable lesson to Sony and hopefully give them some humility. The EU PlayStation Blog is riddled with kids bitching for free stuff. It's disgusting. It's also funny to see all these butthurt Sega fanboys finding amusement in all of this, no doubt still bitchy about Sony's arrogance back in 2006 when they launched the PS3. Yeah, that was Sony being egotistical but do I really care about that still? Nope.

Also, it's great seeing all these empty threats on the PS Blog. "I'm gonna trade in my PS3 and get a 360!" or "See you on Xbawks Live, bubs!" Is it a serious fuck-up PR disaster? Yes. Is it worth throwing toys out of the pram and gloating or whining about? Certainly not. Over 70 million people have been affected by this and Sony is doing everything in their power to put things right. It's shaken them, certainly. And I'm glad it has, since now they can walk away from this with humility and experience. If you're concerned about your credit card information being compromised, simply keep a close eye on personal statements and if you notice anything suspicious then contact your bank and cancel your card. Most of this is just typical media scaremongering and hype, easily recified by a modicum of common sense and emotional restraint.

Probably one of the most intelligent posts in this entire thread. And as I stated earlier....I'm more concerned with finding out about my account and if anything was tampered with....not getting some free game. Oh wow....free game. Definitely balances out having a hacked account and my personal information compromised....

So far, the Gmail account I used to sign up for PSN with asked me to change my password due to 'recent suspicious activity.' I just need to tell my parents to keep an eye out for phishing scams back home, because I've been checking my bank account daily. All I really care about.

As I've told Bertha, I don't care how long it takes for the PSN to come back online as long as my shit does not get messed with. It's only video games.

The only reason I'm upset with Sony is it took them a damned week to admit this could have happened. They had to know earlier than this that it was at least a possible issue, and should have said as such. It was a whole week where people could have been ripped off without knowing about.

I don't want free stuff. Whatever game they offer, unless it's essentially a £10 free kinda deal, isn't likely to be anything I'll ever play anyway. I'm certainly not getting rid of my console. I might see if I can get a pre-paid card for all my game using needs, or maybe just use my back up debit card rather than my main one, to avoid people getting access to my main cash one...but they're both in my wife's name to start with, so it's not too big an issue.

I would like a full appology, and if Sony has one, a good reason for why it took so long for them to admit to this bit. I'm guessing they were simply hoping against hope that it wasn't as bad as it looked and didn't wanna go public until they were sure it was as big a mess as they first suspected.

I would also like the video when the security team throws themself into a giant blender to appologise, but never mind.
