  • Soul Calibur V

    ----

Looks interesting. I never got too into the series back in the day at the arcades but its always had some amusing stuff in it.

With the exception of SC being better than SB/SE the series just gets worse with every game, more clones and broken characters in every release.

I dunno. I would like to think that with technology advancing by leaps and bounds every year that they could create characters who are more unique in their abilities and moves and are less 'copy and paste'.

I will admit that the series art direction does seem to improve vastly every sequel though. Even if I don't play the games the artist in me can't not admire the detail they cram into the character designs and backgrounds.

Soul Calibur on the Dreamcast, easily one of the best fighting games ever. Best game in the series too, though SCII and SCIII weren't bad. SCIV however, fuck that shit. Why bring in Star Wars character? Utterly retarded decision.

Also, balls to Siegfried. Whiny angsty kid. Cervantes wants his swords back.

Soul Calibur 2 was great from graphics to it's soundtrack but 3 and 4 just couldn't draw me in

I've only played 2. I didn't realize there was such an adverse opinion on 3 and 4 though.

Soul Calibur I and II are just awesome. when Soul Calibur IV was announced, i didn't even realize the 3rd one had already been out. but yeah, i'm so fuckin' tired of these fighting games that contain trade of characters that don't belong in the game's universe, aka Vader/ Yoda in SCIV, Kratos in MK, Snake/Sonic/Tails in SSBB. and i'm also tired of the way they're making everything into a "sex sells" routine.

I like how you both comment positively on SCII then call SFIV shit for outside universe characters when SCII had Link from Zelda, Spawn from McFarlane comics and Heihachi Mishima from Tekken included.

An additional finger point at criticising SSBB for include Sonic and Snake when nearly all the characters in the game are from different universes already, what is 2 more?

Did you play the game before Soul Calibur, Soul Blade/Edge? Siegfried was quite interesting imo.

I loved Soul Blade, actually had that game. I stand by my words, Cervantes was the original owner and he needs to return as the main villain. Siegfried, eh, didn't like how Nightmare took over.

I think Link fit with the era, which has always been fantasy. Then along comes SCIV and we have Darth Vader. Utterly retarded.

I agree, Link, as odd as it kinda is, does sitll fit more than Vader...ho made no sense, even with the weak 'from another universe' explanation.

Soul Blade was one of the first games I played. =) Yeah, Cervantes was way cooler and scary there, he almost hasbecome some kind of joke now. D= If not that, he's only a set piece in Ivy's story now, no real good story of his own.

that's because i can't name ONE game before Soul Calibur 2 that started a trend of including outside owned characters.

because: 1. Snake is a 3rd party character owned by Konami. and 2. Sonic is 1st party character owned by Sega. the rest of the characters in the series are all 1st party owned by Nintendo...which is....a Nintendo game.

                          "Caliber"?...

The best one is Soul Calibur 1. It was so fast paced and brutal, I still love playing it. The other games are much, much slower and less arcade oriented.

Yoda was such a ridiculous character all high attacks don't touch him and had to resort to low attacks he broke the game

Same could be said about Kratos in Soul Calibur: Broken Destiny for the PSP...
Just put Kratos against Sophitia and you can see they fit the same universe.

Soul Calibur II is by far my favorite SC game when it comes to balance and gameplay. SCIII is favorite SC game when it comes to content; The character creation and RPG mode was fantastic. As for SCIV they really improved the character creation mode but took some of the weapons out and the game, overall, lack content compared to the prior installments.

I'm hoping that SCV gets good pressure from all of the fighting games now, so they release a quality product.
