        ^And again.

        Firmware 3.61 causing older ps3s to overheat/freeze.
We have received some reports of PS3s overheating while playing L.A. Noire or beeping three times before shutting down/turning themselves off, mostly on older 60GB and 80GB fat models.

Primary reports seem to be that updating to firmware 3.61 will cause PlayStations to overheat. There have been various reports of this on a few different games now, all reporting their PS3s turning off or "Red Lighting" after having installed 3.61. This can range from games randomly freezing to PS3s turning off anywhere between 30 mins use to 2 hours. We have confirmed locally that multiple games (Rockstar and non-Rockstar) overheat or freeze only when 3.61 is installed.

At this time we are recommending contacting Sony directly to report the overheating issue. However, this is not the end of our support; we are continuing to test L.A. Noire on all firmware versions and hardware models to isolate the issues and see what can be done. As always, we will update this article as soon as we have updates.

Sony's sure not having a good two months. I think the best saying for them would be "What doesn't kill you makes you stronger" at the present moment.

Of course, people always forget the next part of that saying - "What does kill you makes you dead." Not that I think this has even a remote chance of taking out Sony, especially given Blu-Ray's victory, but I do wonder if the costs of repairing this, the lost reveneue, the PR campaing they'll no doubt have to launch to try and bring sales back up is going to put enough of a dent in there profits to hurt them.

Glad about this! I just bought LA Noire from Best Buy and they gave me two frakkin' DLC codes, without any pre-order

                  Crap.

Lets say last week 200 PS3s broke down. People were all playing different games last week so they are just random breakdowns.

This week 200 PS3s break again, but there was a firmware update and everyone is playing LA Noire since it is a big new release, so suddenly the firmware/LA Noire is causing PS3s to break down.

Same thing happens to both consoles almost everytime a new firmware or big release happens.

^ Yeah, I saw Rockstar has since retracted the comment and people are now saying exactly that.

Well, I can't actually prove that this was because of the recent Playstation Network hack, but I thought I would give everyone a bit of a heads up on the situation: Today I get a call from my bank informing me that some suspicious activity was going on with my account, so I quickly run over to the computer and log in to see what recent activity has been going on. What do I come to find, but that my debit card was being used in not only Los Angeles, CA, but also Detroit, MI (as well as MY purchases in my area).

Now as god-like as I am, I have yet to master omnipresence.

I know most people will say "Well, you should have cancelled the card when you heard about the whole PSN business anyway...blah, blah, blah." True, I agree with you...BUT I didn't want to go through the hassle of getting new cards and whatnot until I actually had some hard evidence of cases popping up in correlation to PSN's hacking. I really didn't think I would be one of the people affected (as the saying goes..."You never think it will actually happen to you...").

Again, I cannot prove this is a result of my personal information being on PSN, but obviously, I am highly suspicious since I am extremely careful with my money.

Just a reminder to stay vigilant.

Also, I'm really not even that annoyed about this...The people only charged up about $30 before the card was flagged and shut off. I'm actually more excited to get a new card that will actually swipe!

Well, I'm keeping a close eye to my account online statement so no worries
                        there.

I'm not going to be hasty and change my card until I see any suspicious
activity that warrants me do so.

Yeah, I have your same outlook. I'm really not mad this happened to me...It's really more of an inconvience than it is anything. Most banks give you all the stolen funds back. I'm not really concerned about lost money.

This could have been a totally isolated incident and nothing to do with Playstation Network. My suspicions for Sony are just rather high at the moment as are most of the rest of the general public.

I'm really not even mad at Sony (pending it was their fault and the result of my leaked information). Stuff like this happens. All you can do is be cautious and watch out.

What is the big effort it getting a new card?

^It's more just the sheer laziness of me actually have to contact the bank, request a new card, and change the number online a few places. And the main reason I don't like getting a new card is because I have to memorize a new number.
