ps3 to ps3 transfer

i just scooped up a first gen eighty gig ps3 and wanted to copy my info from my old one. But it seems like i can only transfer the data, losing the original data on the first ps3. I would like to be able to play on either from my current saves, I just don't know if thats possible. It seems like all the stuff I purchased or game data would be moved to the new one leaving the old one empty. I think its weird that one person can't have the data on two systems that they own, but maybe I'm just misunderstanding it. Wondering if any one had any thoughts or experience with this.

Well I already performed a transfer from a 40 GB (Phat) PS3 to a 160GB (Slim) PS3 and, to my surprise, it did not format my old PS3 still having all the data I just transfer.

Do further research, because I may have just gotten lucky.

Look at some youtube PS3-PS3 transferring videos, they'll probably help you.

hey just got it up and running all the data stayed in my original...i think the only thing that would get erased was videos or something.

anyhow, it took like an hour and a half to transfer, but now i'm playing metal gear solid 3 snakeater in hd, looks bomb it really held up well.
