Boy, those 3DS sales sure fell off a cliff. So much so that Nintendo has instituted one of the swiftest and deepest price cuts for a handheld in recent memory.
Don't feel too bad, they're actually compensating you by giving you 20 free virtual console games. Mostly 1st party stuff, not to mention near the bottom of the press release it states that some of the games are exclusive to you (e.g. Metroid, Yoshi's Island, etc won't be available for purchase/download by a normal eshop user).
This is great news for consumers who were on the rocks about a 3DS though!
This is one of those instances where people are actually getting some compensation for sticking with a launch product. I can't see too many people complaining about this.
Still I'm in no hurry to buy a 3DS until the game library makes it worth the purchase. So that's still going to take some time.
personally i wanted the 3ds before this announcement. the offer of 20 free games if i register before aug 11 3 days before my birthday is too tempting to resist. not to mention i can now get the blue 3ds without worrying about getting a game now off shopnbc
well vita has no shinobi. it has nathan drake. and you know who will win in a fight between nathan drake and shinobi? heres a hint, wisecracks are only painful in a emotional sense, swords are painful in a physical sense. shinobis are painful in every sense
I'm still waiting on Revelations before I make a decision, but this is good news all the same. Nintendo really overpriced that thing from the start when you consider how poor the lineup has been since launch.
Win for budget gamers like me.
So I'll get a 3DS post-august. It was getting cheaper here, so this cut should lower the price a lot. Still not buying it on retail stores. A 3DS goes up to almost 500 bucks.

Consoles' prices have nothing to do with the line-up they have.
The only mistake I see nintendo did was release the 3DS in march, instead of the holidays where gamers/parents need to spend most of their money in gadgets for themselves or their loved ones.
As for me, I don't regret getting a 3DS at launch. My old 1st-gen silver DS needed an upgrade, aside from that the mic stopped functioning which made some games impossible to proceed any further (like RE: DS in Rebirth mode). I've gotten a lot of entertainment from solely the three 3DS games, eshop, and new DS games that I have just got my hands on.
I'm pretty happy with what I purchased, even without the 20 free games, and it'll get even better as time passes.
