Dead Space has been living in RE4's shadow. I'll get around to playing the second Dead Space at some point, but the first game was just fine. I don't think it needed to be a franchise. Funny enough trying to plan one out as though you have the hottest game out there doesn't work as well as building one from the ground up. By the time the first game rolled around I saw that they were really trying to make this into a series from the get go.

As far as Resident Evil is concerned I look at it as a lucky set of events that their game just happened to attract a lot of fans and each installment made is based off that rapidly growing fanbase. That isn't to say that these days Capcom isn't attempting the same thing as EA. But at the time of the first Resident Evil it didn't look like they knew just how big this game was going to be or where it would take them.

Dead Space is one of my favorite franchises.

Necromorphs are like cousins of zombies, so what's not to love? Repeating myself from other topics, DS is how you can fit survival, action and horror in one game.
Also I love the Isaac/Nicole thing between 1&2. Ohhh the drama.

I'm dying to play Severed DLC from DS2. But first I must buy the game for PS3.

If you played Extraction, it's very cool.

I really like the Dead Space games, they bring back the horror in games that Resident Evil kinda lost over time. Still love RE more than anything but DS is a good alternative.

It's took me a while to try the dead space games, just never got round to them, but i was pleasantly surprised. It is quite repetitive and the lack of boss fights in 2 did annoy me, but it was a great game series and I'm excited for the 3rd instalment

Dead Space is a great series to get your itch for more survival horror. Hopefully the third chapter, seeing that it's going to be heavy influenced from the themes and style of the thing this time around, is going to be fantastic.

I half expect the third game to be on a Tomb Ship mentioned, one of the Unitologist vessels - loaded with a ton of corpses and probably a Marker or two. That or an actual, inhabitable planet.

The third game is set on a icy hazardous planet with a new enemy known as "the hive mind", which is probably in relation to the marker experiments. Chuck it in with industry environments and a few surprises and we're good to go!

The Hive Mind isn't a new enemy, it was in the 1st game =/

Of course but the way it was mentioned, it sounded like a whole new range than just the creature we saw.

One of the scariest games Ive ever played, not just with jump scares but the game also has brilliant tension! I love that even the lowest of enemies still pose a threat even in the later stages of the games unlike some games. still ive played scarier games.

Also, I wont buy another DS collector edition again. Life size replica Plasma Cutter my ass.
I agree. That pissed me off when I went and got it at the midnight release. I was all like "Oh neat. A FUCKING FLASHLIGHT!"

Anyway, other than that I think that they're good games. Could be better and scarier. I, personally, find the repetitive scares in the first one annoying. The second DS stands out for me. Not as making me scared or anything, but making me feel like a complete badass while everyone else is crappin their pants.

Overhyped, overrated, about as scary as pacman, and its fans are generally hypocritical.
