Might I suggest if get some SFxT lobbies going we ban gems? I've barely played the game and one of the main reasons is so many people using the pay-for uber auto-block/throw gems.

(Not to double post, but. . .)
Got in a couple recorded MvC2 and UMvC3 lobbies/matches in on saturday(JB and Kaneco in MvC2, and JB in UMvC3, though the later ended up being a bit short). The original plan was to try to have a lobby in UMvC3 today, but things sorta got sidetracked with JB. Anyways, for the rest of the week, my goal is to get as much lobby/matches recorded from the various fighters on the table. Looking to do UMvC3 tonight, as mentioned. Then just pick and choose each night between SSF4, SF3, SF2 Turbo HD, VF5, SF vs Tekken(neither with JB). So consider that an invitation for anyone interested.
My UMvC3 session with JB proved fruitful though. Even though I sorta picked randomly for some matches, I ended up coming up with some interesting combination of characters(I'll have to post a list later here) that seem to work well together, so hopefully that'll give me even more options against matchups.
Running a little behind on getting out the Retro MvC3 vids, but I just need to render them properly and upload(the editing and all that pretty much done). So expect those with new lobby footage in the next couple days, along with whatever else gets recorded along the way.Last edited by valentinesdead?; 08-20-2012, 05:50 AM.sigpic

I didn't like VF5 much at all, all the characters feel too the same and lack of special moves and such makes every fight very repetitive.
I don't think SFxT netcode is going to work for overseas matchmaking either, was getting an awful lot of rollback in the matches we had to the point it wasn't enjoyable at all, wake-up reversals getting beat by regular punches, tagging out characters springing back into the match and getting hit, hit-strings suddenly turning into blocks, launchers not winning out over low attacks half the time (they always meant to), pretty unplayable like that.
I'm going to stick to Marvel games and SSFIV.Beanovsky Durst - "They are not pervs. They are japanese."

A real update for a change!
3 new videos, capping off my Retro MvC3 Series. The 1st, embedded below, is a mix-up of a few fun clips, a couple matches with a friend that turn out to be a lesson in what happens when you forget to block in MvC3, and about 6 or so matches with Mr. Spencer the first day that PSN went back online after the hacking scam last year. Parts 4 and 5 are matches between me and Kaneco.
**redacted**
With my unreleased material finally done, I plan to go back and consolidate all my old footage (that's interesting, anyways) in a similar format so I can just go ahead and delete all the single match videos. But I probably won't start doing that until the weekend or next week. At least they won't be difficult to make.
I plan to upload the short(but sweet) UMvC3 lobby me and JB had saturday tonight, and then the MvC2 lobby with JB and Kaneco after that. I think I've found the right video bitrate for encoding the videos(the Retro series served as my guinea pig for that), so starting with the UMvC3 video, there should be hopefully a nice jump in quality. The UMvC3 vid clocks in at 1.5 GB for 30 mins, versus the 500-700 range I tried with the Retro videos.
Hoping for some UMvC3 tonight, but I have no clue if JB is going to be on or not. The Chris Redfield lovin' son of a whore cheated me out of Sunday, but I'll be sure to repay the slight by showing no mercy the next time I get to go some rounds.

As far as SF v Tekken, I guess I'm stuck with JB and Kaneco on that. . .which probably means I won't be playing it much. Either way, I'll probably spend some time here or there training with the few characters I rather liked, so whenever I do get a chance to tag-team with someone, I"ll be trying to carry as much of the weight as possible.Last edited by valentinesdead?; 04-06-2013, 02:06 AM.sigpic

First UMvC3 Video! Against Jill's Boob.
**redacted**
I think these matches are pretty good. Some dumb mistakes on both our parts, but these matches are certainly a few steps up from anything I've uploaded MvC3 related in the past skill-wise(though, it's been over a year since I recorded anything from MvC3 gameplay). I know I played pretty shitty with Doctor Doom, Doctor Strange, and Nova(somewhat I guess), but those are certainly characters I'm trying to learn and get down. Especially Doom, since he's on two of my "official" teams now. Playing this lobby helped me accidentally discover some really good team combinations I will definitely be using from here on out against people. Should help learning the actual characters easier as well.
Just for the heck of it, thought I might give a little rundown of what I'm considering my main teams right now.
Team #1 - Wesker/Doom/Vergil
This is pretty much my power or "top-tier" team(though I don't think some people consider Vergil in the top tier). Wesker starts out as the point/battery character, there hopefully to inflict as much damage as possible while building meter. Doom is in because he's one of the few jack of all trades in this game. He cam combo/zone depending on the opponent/team, plus his plasma beam assist is one of the best in the game. Vergil is third to take advantage of the hyper meter, and (if need be) X-factor level 3. He's got quite a few options as far as attack and defense. He's flexible enough to start on point even, but to me, Wesker better off being point because he doesn't have as many options as either Vergil or Doom(especially Doom).
Team 2 - Hawkeye/Doom/Phoenix
Pretty much my Phoenix team. After trying Akuma, Morrigan, Magneto, Wesker combinations with Phoenix, I've found Hawkeye to be the best(so far) to play point for his zoning options and the speed of the character. Doom is there because, as stated above, I really needed characters with the most options and best assist on the team to accomplish the goal of gaining five meters to get Dark Phoenix. Considering playing a Phoenix team in itself is playing a match with your hands tied behind your back(not able to consume meter), playing someone like Akuma doesn't really make much sense, since(unless you can do his high-level combos, maybe), it's pretty pointless as he definitely qualifies as a hyper meter high damage character. Morrigan, even with high-level combos, doesn't do high damage, and while Wesker certainly does do high damage from even the basic combos of the game, without good assist, he's pretty vulnerable character. And Magneto. . .probably can and does work well on a Phoenix team, but I just suck with him, so he wasn't much an option.
Team 3 - X-23/Doctor Strange/Akuma
X-23 is point because she's pretty much all about rushdown--covered by great assist. Still haven't played enough with Strange to really know what assist is best used on the team, but Akuma's spinning kick is definitely one of the best(if not the best) assist in the game. But I see great promise with Strange once I get him down(I think he certainly balances out the team), and Akuma's in third because, you know, "his fist bleed death." Nothing really more to say.
Team 4 - Nova/Chun Li/ Felica
Nova makes a great point character because of his combo ability(but for now I suck with him). Chun Li is my battery character for the team(I might switch her with someone else maybe). Felica is a meter character, so she get's third slot. I used to always play her on point, but that's not really the character type she is(at least, if your looking to use her the most effectively). Not too much to comment on. Going to have to really put this team through its paces for a while.
Team 5 - Taskmaster/Morrigan/Frank West
Taskmaster's on point because of his array of options in dealing with opposition. Morrigan is more or less the battery of the team, and Frank West gets third. . .though West and Taskmaster might easily be switchable. Don't have that much experience playing West outside of casual play, but I'm looking to dig in more into him.
Does anyone else have a few teams they find are the most reliable?
As far as videos, tomorrow I'll have the MvC2 lobby from saturday up.
Btw, JB's vacation from work turned into a non-vacation due to a coworker's emergency, so my original plans of hosting lobbies every night went out the window. Which, isn't bad I guess, since it givers me more time to get out the remaining stuff, the VF5 lobby I had with Dracary's, and start working on reupping the old MvC3 matches. Anyways, will definitly be hitting up UMvC3 and MvC2 this weekend.Last edited by valentinesdead?; 04-06-2013, 02:07 AM.sigpic

I don't really make teams, just pick characters not used in a while, or ones not bored with, most matches I have at least one character from hitting 'random select'.
edit: Been having a little practice with Chris/Taskmaster/Super Skrull. Got some nice tactics and counters worked out as well as many easy to work combos, though how they will work online when everything goes to shit I don't know.
Also whenever I win with Chris I cannot stop staring at his neck, look at the bloody thing.

Sorry about the lag tonight Vito and Dracary's. As I mentioned to Dracary's already, I forgot my dad was watching netflix. so bye bye flawless internet connection. I won't have to contend with that on the weekend though. Plan on playing and recording on saturday, so let's see how many folks we can get together and have a real lobby for once.
I actually recorded the matches. .. and even though my computer crapped out, they seemed to have recorded, so I'll go through and post the best matches once I have a chance to filter through it. Vito man, I don't know what happened, whether it wsa the lag, or my frustration at playing with the six button set-up again, but I seriously kept dropping the ball there, espesically after such a good start ti seemed. LOL when you killed my Phoenix in that match--kept pressing the wrong damn button to switch out. Also, I totally fuckedin the last Phoenix match with Hawekeye. Why in the world I deviated from my zoning gameplan, I have no idea(bravado guts? stupidity?), but damn, I got fucked up for it. That was a happy birthday present if I ever saw one in the game. Of course, I'm still a little mystified at why it seems i have problems chaining the hit buttons together online, and yet offline in training I can do it without a hitch. I just hope it was the lag fucking with the button presses, and not because I'm using 6 buttons again(probably a bit of both). . .but I guess I'll find out on saturday one way or the other. Thanks for the matches. just hope next time i can actually keep it compeitive instead of spiraling down south after a few close victories. Ah well, progress. Either way, you introduced me to some new things I haven't come across(not that I've played much online really), but I"ll definitely be studying our matches with a close eye(ignoring the too obvious dumb mistakes I made of course).
I'll be uploading the MvC2 lobby from saturday tonight. It would have been up today, but my computer restarted for some reason during the morning.sigpic

You really ARE progressing my friend, you got me sweating buckets in the first matches but I managed to recover in the end. Damn University wont let me play as much as I want to. I really want to see our matches and count me in for Saturday if I'm online at that time (you never know with our different time zones).
I really liked your Hawkeye team, that bastard!Last edited by Vito; 08-24-2012, 02:51 AM.

Sorry if I missed a lobby tonight, I know I said I should be on but the night out just rolled onwards until gone 4am. I'd jump on the check right now cos I know they run well past this hour sometimes, but I'm pretty close to drunk and extremey tired.Beanovsky Durst - "They are not pervs. They are japanese."

Got a couple updates for the thread. First is the MvC2 Lobby from two saturdays ago with Jill's Boob and Kaneco and myself.
**redacted**
And second is my second UMvC3 Lobby(well, not really a lobby), between myself and Vito
**redacted**
How is everyone enjoying the upgrade in the quality of the videos? I'm pretty happy with the encoding--not just the youtube video, but my actual master file. Cuts down on the voluminousness raw recording size, but no nasty compression defects going on. (They're encoded in flash, if anyone was curious). The only thing I dislike is that youtube doesn't support 60 frames a second. But if youtube ever does, or the day comes when Goggle's 1 Gig internet becomes widely available, it shouldn't be an issue to fix that, lol.
No sweat about Saturday, guys. I ended up going over to a rich couple's house where my cousin was house sitting for their two dogs. Besides being late when I got back online on my ps3, the internet was a bit laggy playing with Jill's Boob anyway. Not to mention, no recording device, so nothing really missed. I bought my ps3 over to play with my cousin anyways(Trying to teach him the game). Anyways, maybe well have better luck this weekend. . .or Monday, since it's labor day. I don't plan on playing/recording any matches until the weekend. . .but possibly Friday, depending on how I feel. kinda taking a break as I spent pretty much all of Friday and Sunday going through my old video game recordings to finally get them edited down in adobe premiere. Happy to say I've finished that, as well as watching all 265 of my old MvC3 matches--so all that's left is to encode and upload. Probably going to be uploading straight for 3-4 weeks given the amount of things I've got. But, as far as this week--I'll be uploading my SSFIV matches, then Friday and Saturday(if I don't slack off again on the weekend), I should have my VF5 session with Dracary's up. And after that, well, I guess we'll just have to see.

Originally posted by Dracarys View PostYou've mentioned six buttons a few times, how on earth were you playing before? Six buttons have always been needed.
This is the original, and standard config for Mvc3. This right here is primarily the reason why A)I could never use assist before, because my fingers would always get confused(as silly as that sounds) and lose their place, and B)the cause of SO MANY Morrigan missle hypers, along with premature X-factoring and other oddities you see in my old matches(well, when I reupload them). This was the setup I played with longest, and for whatever reason, never really clicked for them. Then, by around Nov when Ultimate came out, I switched my scheme to a more MvC2 scheme after having played that game a bit with Mr. Spencer and Jill's Boob and Inferno04.
This is what I refer too when I mean "4 buttons." I basically grouped them together to make them closer to my fingers, and easier to chain into TAC's. Also putting the partner buttons on the side allowed me to able to use assist. . .somewhat anyway. I remember playing against you, Dracary's around Ultimate's release, along with another friend, and this was the setup I used. I don't remember doing too well, and I kinda lost my passion for the game because I just felt stagnant, and I wasn't learning/getting better at the game. Then, after picking it back up last month, I decided to make a minor change. Swapping the M button for S, and vice-versa, seemed to improve chaining hits together--more natural finger movement. This was what I was most recently playing on--up till the first UMvC3 lobby I uploaded with JB. After that, and trying to learn combos the previous few days, I realized I had to go back to six buttons if I was going to be able to improve further, because while the 4 buttons helps with basic things like tac'ing, it doesn't exactly work to well for actual combo reps. So anyways, I I went back to the original default layout(but this time not using the curved buttons). . .but I found, for some reason or another, I suck with the top row as the hit buttons. So I switched them to the bottom, with this setup.
And I found myself doing things much better/alot more natural(offline anyway, lol). Only thing was I was having trouble hitting the S button, and even after practicing, it just seemed to screw me up, so I finally got the bright idea of moving S inbetween the two partner buttons at the top, like this.
And that is pretty much my current set-up. My first real matches with this setup were against Vito, and after playing him, while I guess I was getting used to just using it in an actual versus atmosphere, I found out rather quickly an X-factor button wasn't going to work at all, but now I've practiced doing it with the buttons themselves(more or less slapping them), and that seems to work just find. I felt I did better with JB with the setup, so I suppose the more I break it in in actual matches, the more natural it'll get. but I'm already in love with the setup, and don't think there's a better one for me.Last edited by valentinesdead?; 08-28-2012, 11:13 PM.sigpic
