  • Assassin's Creed Revelations

Finished this last night. Simply amazing. One of my favorite narratives in gaming, and the ending was so well done. Altair and Ezio got tied up very nicely, and in quite an emotional manner. I wasn't a fan of Altair's character originally, but this game really did wonders for his characterization. Amazing soundtrack too, as always, with Jesper Kyd being joined by a composer named Lorne Balfe, who did quite a good job. Much more "epic" in tone. The soundtrack itself is about three times as big as previous games. I love the series universe, need to buy the encyclopedia soon. Going to watch Assassin's Creed Embers tonight.

On another note, den defense is atrocious. Changing Desmond's face was totally pointless, and from what I've seen, he was apparently changed to resemble the creative director of the game. If true... how fucking obnoxious.

I dunno why they've always gone for such redesigns of the characters.

First game had a very realistic (although stiff/lifeless) look on the characters, then the second adopted a slightly more cartoony look for everything and by Brotherhood, things such as the character modelled after Kristen Bell somehow hardly looked anything like her at all... Weirdness.

Haven't really been able to delve deeply into Revelations yet (15% done or something), but working hard on crossing everything else off the "to do" list so I can enter the same horrifying state I was in when I burned through AC1->AC2GOTY->AC:B->DLC in like two weeks (late the to the party ;D). A bit mixed about the tutorial crap they cram down my neck at the start of this one, though (+already encountered some annoying bugs that I hope they'll iron out in their first post-launch title update). AC2 and Brotherhood totally handled the introduction of new features and those "how to" reminders for old features in a much better way. Totally part of why the reviews are all over the place for this one.

Got the encyclopedia already on my shelf (Black version came with the European Animus Edition)

I've run into all sorts of bugs. Anyone on the first level get a bug where as you climb the roof you turnaround and jump off? I've had things like missions ending early, telling me I failed and then rewarding me a completion, skipping segments randomly, a target from a mission is permantly stuck on my map despite it being several sequences ago, often on missions where I follow another assassin they get stuck on something or start to loop back and forth over a small area, usually between beams. Sometimes my bombs just vanish when thrown.

I didn't even get the DLC, and couldn't use the UPLAY extras because I wasn't connected to Live at the time. So I haven't gone through the Auditore Family Crypt yet or the Battle of Forli/Bonfire of the Vanities/Da Vinci Disappearance yet.

Think I might buy them all and then just start the entire series over from scratch when I have some free time. I'm a completionist so Ubisoft's insistence on separating everything throughout DLC and special editions is really annoying.

If you're playing the PS3 version, I can't say I'm surprised. They've had a horrible reputation with the PS3 versions since the first game, which was practically completely broken. I've stuck with the 360 versions and never looked back (plus I can actually hook them up via HDMI, unlike the PS3).

PS3 version of the AC games just perform worse. Beyond that, same issues on all platforms.

Had a few hiccups myself so far too. Most annoying being the tutorial stuff for the thieves guild not working properly (Lure command doesn't always work)

While the engine itself has gotten a massive update in Revelations, it seems like the general polish of the clockwork's not been as good as in AC2.

Also, for your completionist madness, News Bot, you'd have to go PS3 - 'cause of the PS3 exclusive crap ;D

I think I can bear without the PS3 exclusive stuff since it's relatively minor, and I wouldn't want to sacrifice performance.

Only real glitch I've noticed was during the Arsenal riot mission, where Ezio's model would simply start glitching out during free-running. Immediately after that mission though, it was completely fine.

If it was on 360 it wouldn't be 'exclusive crap', it'd be 'another reason to buy on 360'. Ammarite?

Got a bit choked up during the ending. Beautifully handled though.

Keep hearing people say that! Just hope people don't hype the ending so much that it wont live up to expectations when I reach it (though, I have faith!)

Assuming by your purchase that you're a big fan of the franchise? I am, i loved how well they did it.

Sorry, I didn't think I was spoiling anything? Just said it was a nice closure to their chapters and farewell to Ezio/Altair as they probably won't be in AC3 as others have already said?

I don't like Revelations at all (maybe except ending). Horrible game as Brotherhood. I hope AC3 will be more like epic AC2. What really pissed me about Revelations is how less time they gave to Altair.

Embers is just as emotional as the ending of Revelations. Some of the dialogue is just great.
