  • SoulCalibur V (PS3/X360) Discussion

    -----------------

The fighter in me was wondering why I haven't made, or anybody for that matter, a thread on this game.

    Trailers

Gameplay video of Yoshimitsu vs. Created Character (Harada - Tekken Director) w/ Devil Jin Style [Leaked/Streetbroken Footage]

    -----------------

I haven't been hyped this much for a SC game ever since SC2.

I would like to hear anybody's thoughts/opinions about the game or the series as a whole.

    Now, Discuss away!

From the first trailers released it looked like a reskin of SoulCalibur 4.
I'm not entirely looking too forward to it, SC4 was the worst of the series...
I'll probably pick this up sometime after the price declines.

Only liked the character creator in the 3rd game, the 4th never clicked with me and the spin-offs just didn't do it for me.

SC2 for life bla bla bla and then *bam* EZIO AUDIOTORE DA FIRENZE *TAKE MY MONEY!!*

Are you seriously telling you're judging the game for the exclusion of Sophitia? If I were you I would be weighing it on the core gameplay and the premise it's following as part of the Soul Series/lore.

Now, I have a question for you...The reason why you won't be buying the game is because the character Sophitia is not in or is it because of her Fighting style? (I would understand the style but not the character)

The fighting style is in and revamped, but in the hands of another character...her Daughter Pyrrha

SC2 & SC3 didn't look that different, you could say the same thing for them at aesthetic level and as to why it looks like a reskin of 4 or just similar, it's because they share the same GEN just like SC2 & SC3...What matters it's the core gameplay which already looks so much better in every way!

I agree though, SC4 was the worst of the series even though it had the biggest assortment of original styles. The problem was the core gameplay and lack of modes/content.

The gameplay feel and speed is looking like a revamped/improved SC2 + better online/story/character customization and the core fighting in general...that's why I'm so hyped. =D

I have always mained Sophitia, it is part of what I enjoy about the series. Not playing as her will actually detract from the fun, I do not care for clones of her fighting style, Lizardman was a clone of her in some games, I never like playing as him.

It is not that alone, the SC series to me seems to be getting worse as time goes on anyway, Soul Blade is to me still the best in the series, SC1 and 2 was also very good, 3 and 4 just felt off. I am also done with paying full price for fighting games, that alone will stop me buying on release, lacking my fav character just means I will not even buy it when cheap.

              Soulcalibur V - X360 / PS3 - Meet Algol, Edgemaster & Soul of Devil Jin!

              Algol's theme is so bad-ass.

The game's coming out on the 31st in the US & the 3rd of February in Europe...next week! =D

The only one from this series I've ever played was SC4, and honestly, I was not impressed. At all. The whole "throw some random ass characters into the mix" thing just doesn't work for me. Nearly all the characters have a general feel of coming from the same universe/world (whatever you want to call it), and then we throw Darth Vader, Yoda and Galen Marek into the mix. What sense does that make? Granted, it was the only reason I bought the game because I've always been extremely fond of the Apprentice's fighting style, it still was a stupid mix of characters.

This one isn't looking much better to me. Though Ezio seems a better fit into this style of fighting game than Star Wars characters.

I have friends that like Soul Calibur, so I'll await their reviews.

You should take the chance and play any of the prior entries....Start with 1 or 2 at least.

Soul Calibur IV is the worst of the series.

this series has really gone down hill ever since the 2nd one well, i wouldn't really know since i never even knew a 3rd one existed until soul calibur iv was announced. ivy was turned into a slut when i seen her character model in the 4th game. and the whole star wars cross over inclusion made me dislike lucas even more. its all just money grabbing since star wars has taken a shit for quite sometime. the inclusion of crossover characters in the 2nd one (especially with link and spawn) were probably some of the best i've seen and actually made each version of the game feel unique to itself, but too many fighting games are doing this, its getting way out of hand.

Ivy was always a slut by design but they just didn't have the power to portray it, as strongly as it is now, back then.

On the case of Guest characters, I can always accept their inclusion as long as they can relate to the main cast in some way whether aesthetically and/or timeline-wise (ex. 1607 A.D.). When it comes to Star Wars characters, I don't think it's ok at all...but I could care less, to me, they're just a bonus and usually never mentioned or ret-con to the future of the story so them being there can be considered as non-canon.

Also, pertaining to the OP and my desire to make this topic....Why hasn't anybody made a Dark Souls topic? Dark Souls deserves as much praise as any other RPG/Medieval/Dungeon-Crawler (ex. Skyrim). xD

                          No, going from this

                          to this

is not a matter of power, they upped her boob size from normal to ridiculous and removed most of her clothes which is really an amazing feat considering she was already pretty exposed.

They increased the breast size of characters +17 year-old characters ever since SC2...even Cassandra have a huge rack.

According to this breast size comparison, Sophitia has the largest cup size.

Ivy is a dominatrix type character that all her phrases imply pain...with a whip-sword...they just stepped it up on the graphics-engine and design department.

So you're making his point now that the design gone downhill?
