  • Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance

Metal Gear Solid: Rising has found its groundwork. And that is Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance. Rebooted and retooled. Kojima Productions have decided to allow Platinum Games (developers of such great titles as Kamiya's Bayonetta and Mikami's Vanquish) to make the latest spin off in the Metal Gear franchise. But don't let that steer you away from KP working on MGS5.

"The previous version of Rising aimed to have feel good action with Raiden as main character as a spin-off, not MGS. The same concept is shared for the new RISING by [PlatinumGames]. For those who are hoping for a stealth style MGS, this will definitely appear at some point, so please wait for a true sequel."
    - Hideo Kojima, on Twitter.

With that out of the way let's look into the past, present and future of Rising before we see more at E3.

Following the news comes a series of viral videos which depict elements related to the game including glimmers of Cyborg Raiden having flashbacks into his youth as a child soldier with Solidus.

You're just looking to get rich aren't you? Didn't earn enough from ORC, so now you want more.

Actually I'm not sure how the sales for Rising will do. Yes it's part of the MGS group, but Platinum Games isn't a gold mine despite their quality titles.

If ORC can be successful because it has RE on the title, odds are this can be a success too.

Well ORC was built for co op and multiplayer. Rising on the other hand as far as we know is a single player game. There might be online, but nothing is confirmed as of yet.

I forget, did we all agree that 'revengence' was a real word or not?

I don't think MGO was that much of a selling point for the franchise so who knows. Besides, the hell with them if they think chopping body parts in different ways isn't as exciting as aim>shoot>reload>repeat against real people.

Simply horrible. Way to fuck up the series.

The series is fine. This is a spin off like Ac!d and Ghost Babel which takes the series in a different direction. The design is centered on playing as a cyborg ninja with the goal set on fluid cutting mechanics for the game play.

With Raiden being a main character and one of the few ninja currently alive in the series the direction isn't that unheard of. But if your skepticism is on the game itself being bad I could understand. Saying it fucks up the series however is hardly much of a claim though. The main series will still get MGS5.

Those two aren't canon, yet Rising probably will be. This'll make big difference. So yeah it is simply horrible. I'll wait till E3 before final judgement, but so far I am sceptical.

Probably be a flashy game with mediocre gameplay, like Vanquish and Bayonetta.

Didn't Kojima say even at the point of the original version preview (coinciding with the release of Peace Walker) that he had his hands off the project?
