A bloated, unoriginal ego train for Kojima's unwarranted sense of self-importance, perpetuated by the millions of 'fans' who are all too willing to throw money at Konami and kiss the blessed hands of the "creative genius" that is Hideo Kojima. Another lifetime achievement award for inspiring others? The only person he "inspired" was Shinji Mikami, who himself turned his own series into another bandwagon for his ego. Kojima hasn't inspired anything else, if anything he's the one that's inspired by everything else. Look at that 'Snake versus Zombie' event that took place a few years back, that was just a colossal mutual self-suck between Kojima and Mikami, each celebrating their own egos and how much they've changed from the basement dwelling geeks they used to be.

A black leather jacket does not make you cool, it just makes it's obvious that you're having a mid-life crisis.

And all you kids are doing is letting Kojima know that he's doing such a swell job. All it takes to satisfy you all is to pander to your testosterone-fuelled desires to be a soldier or some other bullshit. Yeah, totally hardcore right there. Kojima used to be original, I actually enjoyed the first MGS. I thought it was great, but it went downhill with the overwhelming success of MGS2.

"Oh man, Big Boss is so fucking awesome, isn't he? I want to be like him, I want to die on the battlefield and live a life of ignorance and dumbfuckery even though I've never actually served in the military!"

Does reading Tom Clancy literature make you a military genius? Christ alive. Those recruiters that go round from the armed forces and encourage young men and women to join, they should come here, they've already got an entire battalion of pissweasels waiting to join right here.

              I await my infraction.

              • Kids? Nice. How is this any different than fanaticism of any franchise out there? From RE, comies to Star Wars etc. You're acting as if MGS is a special case simply because you haven't found anything past MGS1 interesting. MGS2's gameplay mechanics (from corner shooting to general stealth elements) DID inspire other developers.

Kojima was the VP of KCEJ for some years while heading development and producing some titles, and to do all that, you need to have an ego larger than life. None of us can put ourselves in their shoes of many obvious reasons.

So like many games that I stopped following, once they stopped being fun, that was it for me. A condescending tone towards the fans who still find it interesting isn't exactly productive.

Probably went a little overboard there, I do admit. I just couldn't really sit back and listen to the pages of crap coming from this topic without interjecting with my own thoughts. I'll probably stop following RE at some point, depends on how RE5 works out. Takeuchi has a lot of issues to work out and it's almost like the responsibility for clearing up the mess fell entirely on his lap.

Most developers these days just copy from each other. The two main games that had a profound impact in my opinion would have to be Gears of War and Resident Evil 4. How often do you see the same over-the-shoulder camera view combined with a cover system? Same with the FPS genre, of which there's a dime a dozen.

                  • Fair enough, but I'd credit RE4 alone for the stables you mentioned since the Michael Bay of gaming (Cliffy B or whatever the hell he's calling himself now) admitted to being inspired by it.

Funny thing is, I think MGS2's cover system was great and they had to ruin it in MGS4 by needlessly requiring a button press. Which wasn't done as well as Uncharted for example.

                    • Metal Gear is like anything else I've followed and been disappointed with or don't like where it is headed, I just leave it behind in the wind (e.g. the Terminator series), and if MGS4 is any indication of how the series is going...I'm out. As if MPO wasn't bad enough.

Yeah the story in the series starts as something of a B movie..then later games try to develop on the original, for example Ocelot's story was better before they went filling in the details IMO and killed my interest in the new games. And if you look at how a game series changes it's foundation like RE going from static suspence cameras, to follow the player it ruins the experience you originally wanted to play it for.

The game industry has the same problem the music industry has, you get the choice of doing what the fans want which the critics will declare more of the same or you do something new under the same name and piss off the original fan base.

                            • Nice news. It's fine if it's a prequel. NIGHT SAVAGE! Finally, and Kojima involved in making this.

                              • If it's a prequel I think it should tack place before metal gear solid 3 to show us what happen to the Boss in the second world war how she and the Cobra unit ended the war I think if that happened the game should be a squad based game you take control of the Boss and her Cobra unit now that whould be awsome.
