  • from the console versions, its goes as pretty much backwards to what they are chronologically being with best one (my opinion obviously to the least favorite): MGS4 - MGS2 - MGS1 - and MGS3. MGS1 is great an all, but, the setting is, not the best to me.

when MGS2 was launched, that pretty was the baddest game anyone could play. graphics were the best, gameplay was revolutionary, the story was sheerly complex, the bosses were.....strange if i can say. the cut scenes really put that game together.

that game was my favorite for a loooong time, until MGS4 arrived.

MGS3 couldn't touch MGS2. didn't have what it takes because it felt like a "been there, done that" feeling, which was taken away long before its release.

the gameplay was "alright" but dated, i mean camouflage wasn't bad, but having to switch in the menu all the time was stupid - it was too bad they think of some color palette that you could press in real time to access it instead. having to heal your body was a nice addition, but rather pointless seeing as how you hardly ever get into a serious condition.

the only reason why even bought Subsistence was for parodies, and even though i got the theatrical disc, i only watched it once anyways. other than that, i can pretty much live without MGS3.

Well, there's a number of contributing factors. In both cases, Snake had the weapon's chief designer on his side - Hal Emmerich - who would know practically everything about the weapon, its weaknesses and its strengths. In MGS1, Otacon pointed out the key flaws with REX, the radome being vulnerable. In MGS4, the radome was no longer an issue since it had been damaged beyond repair.

Otacon also gave Snake advice on how to best utilise REX, he also added some upgraded features that he himself only knew about being the lead designer.
      See you in hell.

well im pretty much opposite, to me MGS3 is the most important game in the series, it was the best in the series, had the best story and best characters, and coolest cutscenes. it was just amazing. sure MGS2 is great as well, MGS2 is my second favortie, but IMO it's got nothing on MGS3. MGS3 is the pinnacle of the Metal Gear Saga.

also i loved the Jungle setting and how it's in russia so much, i love settings like that, and how Snake was stuck in the jungle all by his lonesome and had to survive, it was so damned cool. and i loved it.

and i loved how there were no nanomachines and no metal gears, cause i think the Shagohod was so much more badass.

i kinda agree about MGS1, it was a great game but a little overrated.

MGS4 i would be happier if it never existed.

good points. but it's still a fluke that Snake managed to take it out even if he did know it's weaknesses.

You obviously didn't play it when it came out in 1998. It was revolutionary. It's withstood the test of time, as well. True, playing through MGS1 is very much about nostalgia, but that game had the best boss fights, best codec conversations and voice-acting in the series. I also believe it had the best characters in the series as well. Psycho Mantis, Sniper Wolf, Vulcan Raven are all > Any of The Cobras. Oh yeah...and it was the only game to feature a little character named Liquid Snake as something other than an appendage or figment of someone's imagination.

There's nothing overrated about it. That game defined the series and the genre.

                QTF

there is absolutly nothing overrated about MGS1. when it first came out it was amazing and still is to this day.
the acting in it is the best cause they can act it out like they want to insted of having to go along with the facial expressions.
the boss fights were epic and nothing was more trickyer than having to switch controller ports just to defeat a boss.

                as for MGS4

MGS4 was amazing as well. it happend and i think you need to relize that. kojima made it what it is end of story.

                as for REX defeating RAY
they made RAY a anti MG but they never had any battle data on it so ya. RAY was a failure.

the 3rd act took the most time for me because of raging raven and i didn't have the solar gun (which they say makes the motorcycle part easier), and i didn't know that you had only "tranquilize" the 2nd form of each boss, instead of both forms.

after all that, i was kind of disappointed with the rewards.

hay i said it was a great game, but i just think it's slightly overrated. as in it's not the greatest game ever created. i think MGS2 and MGS3 are a lot better than it.

and yeah Liquid was awesome, and had one of the best VA's ever, but most of my favorite characters are in MGS2 or MGS3. like Para-Medic or Rosemary, and Ocelot's best appearances are in 2 and 3.

and FOX-HOUND had better character development but The Cobra Unit was waaay more fun to fight against, there some of my favorite boss battles ever in MGS3.

i meant as in a normal first playthrough on the standard difficulty. MGS4 was a lot easier than the rest on a normal playthrough.

Ehh...The End, yes. The End is one of my favorite boss battles of all-time for being so ridiculously different. That was one incredible fight. The Pain? Absolutely not. Standing in one spot and jumping in the water over and over again...pretty lame. The Fury was also pretty lame, as well. But that's because I compare it too The End and The Sorrow which were both absolutely incredible in their own unique ways. The Fear was alright, made special by the fact that he could eat animals and fruits to replenish his stamina. Ocelot and The Boss were also both fantastic, as well as Volgin and the Shagohod.

                          • the end's boss fight was awesome. the fury i didnt mind. the fear was ok hes a bitch when you forget to pick up the thermal goggles
the pain was LAME like what cr29 said your just shooting, then jumping then climbing back up and repeat.
ocelot wasnt bad i thought it was pretty fun. the boss was my favorite in MGS3.

the only thing i didnt like was the fact that if you put on the sneaking suit (which is black and red btw) your camo index goes up to like 80%
which is good but i dont understand how black can blend in with white.

btw have you guys caught the white snakes during the boss fight? i got them last night while playing (i new about them i just never bothered getting them)
there are 3 white snakes during the boss fight and the snakes names are Solid, Liquid and Solidus.

                            • I think on in MGS4 Act 1,2 and 4 to be the best 3 and 5 were too short and the action from Act 1 and 2 just shem to die right off whith was a real shame.
