I like this game. I've bought all version including MGS: Twin Snake. I just can't wait to play MGS4 right now.

@carnivol, you actually preferred the whole S3 mindfuck of MGS2 over MGS3's rather simple but better (imo) story ?

Yeah, it's supposed to be that cheap (at least today).
It's basically just an add-on for Metal Gear Solid (but works stand alone), guess the name of it pretty much explains itself ;D
It's a nice disc, though. I had plenty of fun with it.
(Which reminds me, I don't think I ever got around to playing through all the bonus stuff in Substance/Document of Metal Gear Solid 2)

MGS3 was just too stupid at times. If you say that MGS was Hollywood and something like MGS-TTS was Japanese action directing combined with Hollywood, that leaves you with MGS3 which then is a Saturday Morning Cartoon. Characters live in a 30min timeframe or something and forget about events shortly after they've happened, they don't learn from mistakes and they just change behavior and personality at the flick of a button all the time.
MGS3 had some nice little easter eggs and MGO was excellent, but the main story stuff of MGS3 was just too stupid.

Na, MGS3 is the straight James Bond-influenced of the series not Saturday Morning Cartoon. Still doesn't mean it was great.
If MGS3 is better than MGS2 or not is definently a good debate, but I think it's an injustice to say it's worse than Twin Snakes. Kitumura's cutscenes ruined the original's style. I'm happier to play the PSOne version than the GC edition.Last edited by Rombie; 07-15-2007, 07:03 PM.

Amazing how no one is commenting on the main thing that matters: the gameplay.
TTS was a mess overall with basically nothing that made the original so great. The graphics took a step down from MGS2, and the gameplay was much easier mainly because of the MGS2 engine. The score was bad too.
MGS2 is probably the most balanced one as far as gameplay goes, followed by MGS1. MGS3's main problem wasn't the story, which I thought to be just fine, it was the broken gameplay. The camo concepts were good, but they made the game a cakewalk and the healing system was... well, odd. It was a great game, but more apparent flaws than the predecessors.
Going back to TTS, in both MGS2 and now MGS4, the superhuman characters are meant to stand out (Raiden and Vamp in the latest trailer). Snake is and always was a great soldier. In TTS, everyone was superhuman apparently, and some parts (even insignificant ones) were absurd for even an unrealistic series. Case in point, the cutscene where Snake is spying on Liquid and Ocelot outside the control room. We're led to believe that a 200lb+ man isn't going to make ANY noise doing a side flip landing on metal flooring.

I like Metal Gear for the fact that it is NOT realistic. I wouldn't have it any other way. It's heavily inspired by anime, such as Ghost in the Shell, among others.
Oh, besides. Japanese. ;)PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

Like the fight scenes with Raiden in the MGS4 trailers, they're just... too much/recycled/cliched/overdone. (Matrix 2-3, anyone?)
Take the corridor sequence with the Ninja in MGS/TTS, that thing was like excellent. Now it's like they're just trying to redo that, instead of actually trying to do something new. Fighting scenes that're just made as a long series of just "LOL super attack! -hah, dodge! Counter attack! LMAO HIT ME BUT HERE'S MY COUNTER!" are so stupid and actually very boring to me... I dunno, maybe it was because I saw all those karate/fighting/ninja/cliche-military/whatever movies as a kid... So who knows, I guess people who find that stuff amusing are mostly the ones who missed out on this as a kid or now has this as an alternative thanks to their later birth ?

That fight in the MGS4 trailer is perhaps the most amazing piece of animation I've seen in a videogame ever... not because it's doing something that hasn't been specifically done before, but that it does it for so long.
To do sequences like that with MoCap they have to break it down into many parts, and try and fill the gaps with general animation... my mind boggles at what and how many parts and how much MoCap is just that one scene.
I complain about Kitamura's TTS scenes a lot (and IMHO TTS is more Matrix-y than others), but it's obviously influenced how scenes are produced both in MGS3 and MGS4 - especially in regards to getting creative with the use of their technologies.

At the Sony Press Event, they ended up showing, wait for it...
An expansion to Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops...as if you guys didn't see that coming.
It's title is merely Metal Gear Solid Portable Ops +. Yes. +. No fancy Substance or anything.
Though it looks quite good. New stages, new characters, new weapons. There's now a brand new Single Player campaign aswell.PROJECT Umbrella - The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

actually no, infact they completely SCRAPPED the single player story mode, there's a single player VS mode included in it instead, this version of the game is solely for the online folk ..
and the best bit is that raiden and old snake are present in it, not a joke, there are pictures of them on the konami page.
