Pretty neat. I don't see anyone who's ripped the MGS2's yet, but I might try to do it myself with the PC or ps2 disk. Although, that means no in-game music to accompany some of the codecs, but oh well.
Those are pretty cool. Some of those I've never heard before like Snake saying "Master, I don't remember telling you I'm part Japanese" or Meryl talking about her uncle pulling her leg.

Or perhaps his character never changed. During codec conversations with Rose, she always called him "cold." I think 4 showcased the real Raiden; not the one who was getting his crotched grabbed by the president, but the one who was "afraid of the night."
Besides, Raiden's blossoming to being a badass came out successful and not cringeworthy.
That's some fine comedy there, sir.

It appears you get your genders and their traits confused very easily, my friend. No wonder you have a scewed image of Raidenesse. But, you're funny nonetheless.

Defending Kojimas choice for Raiden's character design for MGS4 with words like "badass" and "not cringeworthy" is weird. Considering the plot for MGS2, I can forgive Raiden's "not yet matured into a man" kind of a post-teen character. But neither of them were badass.

              • And it also appears that you become confused very easily on reading my posts correctly, my friend. I was not defining Raiden's character design with "badass" and "not cringeworthy." If you read my previous post, I believe I made it clear that I wasn't too keen on his design when I agreed with Spencer.

                Oooh, ha he ho.

                • Well, since the promise of the HD Collection has sort of put me in a big Metal Gear mood, I've been working on my "magnum opus" of MGS cutscene capturing. I'm having quite a bit of fun with this, compared to previous attempts. This would be the fourth time I've went through MGS1 specifically. Back when I had nothing but an DVD Recorder, I originally captured the cutscenes on one dvd at around 2 hours and 30 mins. Decent enough quality for what was still a non-HDTV era. The editing on that was nothing more sophisticated than going in a linear order and hitting the record and pause recording buttons.

The second time was in 2008ish, before or after MGS4 came out. Or maybe it was 2007. .can't quite remember, but I was still using my dvd recorder, but this time I was using Divx Doctor and trying to create more movie-esque blocks, like including Boss battles or some kind of transitions in gameplay. I was never really happy with those though, even though I spent quite alot of time on them. It wasn't till sometime after that I realized how shit the quality of the dvd recorder was on any modern playback device, like my computer or ps3. The dark levels were WAY TOO dark in anything but the actual dvd recorder.

The third time was about probably late 2009, after I'd gotten my HDPVR. While the HDPVR is great and wonderful, the editing software that comes with it is pretty garbage. I ended up deciding to separate every single little cutscene by itself because of its editing issues. Too damn tedious for my taste.

This fourth(and FINAL time) I'm capturing them again with the HDPVR through my ps3 at 480p. With VideoRedo, I can actually do some great time edits, such as shortening the loading breaks within cutscenes, or make scenes more seamless. A bit of a chore as far as the editing, but it's a payoff. The best thing is being able to actually put the scenes in a true 16:9 frame--like they were actually made for. It really adds a lot to watching them. And even though they're 480p, playback on a 1080p output device or ps3, they look about as good as if they were in HD anyway.

                  Here's an example.

                  4:3 480i

                  16:9 480p

I uploaded a clip just to give an idea(for the hell of it I guess).

Obviously, I can't wait to get my mitts on MGS2 and MGS3(and PEACE WALKER since I've never played it yet). But, I still have to redo MGS4, so, I'm not in a hurry. . .much.

EDIT*** More info regarding a possible MGS1 remake/remaster.

Robert MacNeroy of TheGameHeadz.com Writes: Being a huge fan of all things Metal Gear, once I heard that a series of Metal Gear games were going to be remastered I was over joyed by the possibility of re-experiencing one of gamings greatest adventures in HD. Now that I’ve had some time to play the games in HD on the PS3, I can tell you that there’s something new about Metal Gear in its remastered form.

                    • ^ Woah, awesome to see it again. I'm glad thats still doing the rounds. It was one of the first videos I liked on YouTube back in 2006, but the original got pulled down in one of those early YouTube copyright blasts. :/

                      Cheers

                            • They should remake Metal Gear 1 instead. Then remake Metal Gear 2, I wanna see Big Boss taken out with a spray can and lighter in todays graphics.

                              • I'm cool with a remake, so long as they stick to the tone of the original.

I don't want them to make the cutscenes more action oriented just because they can *aaachu-Twinsnkes-Cough*.

I want them to keep the little aesthetic touches too; I'm looking at you green hue on the codec screen :]

Also since the spaces would be enclosed again, I'd like to see a return to the scripty-AI we saw in MGS2 - ESPECIALLY the kind of stuff we saw in the tanker episode. Even though you knew it was all context sensitive, it never felt pre-planned. I got a kick out of room clearances, soldiers reacting to enviromental ques (Snakes shadow around a corner, shattered glass, etc etc), and RADIOS; I loved shooting their radios!

I would just wish that that type of AI system could be expanded on...

MGS3-4 had ... alright AI, but I have never since felt that the people we face in MGS are living parts of the world- just cannon fodder.

Also, IMO the Gene'ies are the most interesting foes we face in the MGS series. Why not do them justice and make them challenging (As they are supposed to be super soldiers after all)
