So, true to my word, I sat down and finished it last night. I copied my stats to Dot50Cal via MSN so if he wants to, seek out and post them.
The game was good. I have problems with it, and things I like.
The story, for me, was a problem. I just didn't like how Spoiler:

they changed Lisa from the gentle nurse into "Maria" from Silent Hill 2. She is suddenly sexy, coming on to Travis to then turn and be a dick to him. Perhaps this could be put down to "White Claudia" but I doubt it, I think it's more that the team wanted a sexy character which didn't exist in Silent Hill 1.
I found it strange that Kaufman suddenly became the G-Man of Silent Hill. It doesn't make sense considering his reaction within Silent Hill 1 indicated that this was the first time that he had seen the town in this way. Perhaps he was not seeing Silent Hill as Travis was, relating to the point which Vincent says to Heather in Silent Hill 3, as though the town takes its own form for each person. Lisa also never indicates that she can see the town in this state either, though she does indicate that she knows about Travis' mother at the end of the sanitarium, which would prove that she could see some creatures as Travis' mother was already in a different form. In the hospital, though, Lisa does not seem to believe anything is wrong, she does know something is wrong in the sanitarium, but seems fine again when we see her in the theatre and in the motel (although somewhat more violent with her mood).
Travis' story did seem somewhat predictable, though that's not to say it was bad, it just seemed very standard. I can see why they added relations to Silent Hill 1, but I honustly would have liked to see them using Travis' story and fleshing it out. Infact, is Travis' mother dead? I don't recall it being mentioned at any point within the story, just that she was locked up after the attack, and then her medication was changed and such.
At this point, I feel that they cannot add anything else to Silent Hill now geographically as it's getting huge. We have the district south of the lake that is explored in Silent Hill 2, then north of the lake, the hotel, amusement park, Old Silent Hill and east of this, New Silent Hill, which has now much more added to it (the area introduced within Origins. Originally within the Silent Hill 1 canon, the fire that burnt the Gillespie household and Alessa also swept through the area of Old Silent Hill, which seems unlikely now considering the Gillespie household is not within Old Silent Hill or the immediate area. If you follow the Silent Hill 1 canon, then there was no ritual, as seen at the end of Origins, as the fire in which Alessa was burnt was infact the ritual. Seemingly, her body was taken straight to the hospital where she was prenounced dead to the public, when she was really just moved to the basement of the hospital and Lisa was put on duty to attend to her needs. This was confirmed back in the day by the unreleased Silent Hill Graphic Novel, some of the pages released showed this.
I was dissapointed to see that the butcher did not play the same role as he was originally intended. As far as I can gather, he was the remains of a character that the player would slowly realise was Travis himself, but I think this changed when the game changed development hands. Proof of this can be seen in the concept art which I believe is now on the Silent Hill Origins website, and is also why the very first Origins trailers showed Travis in the butcher shop and it was such a major set piece in the original footage. Other than the butcher himself, I think the only piece of this storyline left in the final game is the bad ending, which really doesn't make much sense in the context of the final game. But the buther was a pretty cool charater none the less, though I wish they had brought him into the final story more, like that of Pyramid Head. He had significance within the story of Silent Hill 2, and I just wish the butcher had significance within Origins.
The only other thing story wise I can see that was wrong is that the Flauros was given to Travis to use against the cult and prevent the ritual, sealing Samael away. However, in Silent Hill 1 it was used to weaken Alessa, perhaps this is because in Silent Hill 1, Samael is within the flauros, though I cannot say for sure if this would make the flauros posses the opposite effects.
Feh, i've talked way too much already.
To round off, story annoyed me, gameplay was good although monsters were a little to aggresive, and I hated the sanitarium, that place can fuck right off.
