I didn't realize how close to the movie the game was sticking. When the knifed that painting its the exact same as the movie.

I was thinking the same thing Dot.
I sort of realised it on an older trailer when your in the toilets and the room changes around you, was so like the movie.
And i am so glad pyramid head is back, i'm sort of hoping we get a decent battle with him this time

God this game is looking more and more like a huge fucking trainwreck. I'm all for change, I agree that the series needs it, but these guys are going about it the wrong way, in fact, they're just making it into some crappy B-grade western developed horror game. This is more "Alone in the Fog" than Silent Hill.

And Pyramid Head shouldn't be here. Team Silent knew to keep him in one game and one game only. He made sense in Silent Hill 2, and he's still bad ass because they didn't play him out in every title since.

And i am so glad pyramid head is back, i'm sort of hoping we get a decent battle with him this time
But the last Pyramid Head battle in Silent Hill 2 was amazing, as was how it ended.

All I can do is shake my head at your posts. I can't even take your opinion seriously anymore, since all you do is shit on this game at every turn, even when its obvious to most people there are promising elements in the game. You've become one of those Japanophiles or something. God forbid if a "western" developer gets handed a "japanese" game. Oh shit, now its tainted the franchise. I bet team silent could have done better, right? Give me a break. They had their last chance with 4, and it was fucking awful.

The games hardly tell you anything about the plot. All the story details are just educated guesses by the fans, so I find it funny when you start dictating where and when Pyramid Head can appear, when practically nothing about him is explain and its obvious that hes been in the series far before James came to Silent hill (Painting in Origins).

The Pyramid Head battle in SH2 was terrible in both design and production values. The ending "cutscene" to that battle had me asking "Is this it?". There was no pay-off for such an interesting enemy. Just a shitty ending with duplicated animations (run at the same time mind you) for both of them. All you had to do was run to a corner of the room, fire your weapon three times, and then run to the other corner. Rinse and repeat. To even suggest that it was a proper way to do a boss battle makes me think you suffered severe brain damage. Should I expect a post from you next week about how amazing and complex the Koopa boss fights were in Super Mario Brothers?

Alright, I can't watch most of these until this evening when the kids are in bed, but from what I did see and read I have slightly more hope for it than I did previously. I am worried about the movie elements, as while the movie was probably the best video game to big screen production to date it still had so many stupid and retarded elements in it. As long as they stick to the admittedly incredible visual effects I can live with it.

And Pyramid Head...well, so long as it explains why he's there I can live with it. While he's supposedly a manifestation of James' desire to punish himself over the death of Mary (and with the second one's appearence Maria) the executioner in Silent Hill was obviously there a long time before James. I've always felt that it was a safe bet that Pyramid Head wasn't entirely a creation by James.

So, as long as it's not, 'Hey he's the coolest monster in SH we're bringing him back' it could be good. But there has to be an explanation of some kind, at least for this, even if it's the characters throwing out a couple of theories as to what exactly he is. No deffintive answers, but hints are always good. And, in this case, needed to make it look like more than a fanfiction project.

Alot of this stuff comes from the movie.
Interesting, I'm loving the idea's flowing in.
But then again, I hated the fact Pyramid Head lost his sword so early on in 2.
Team Silent did give us alot of questions unanswered, like Laura...but maybe Pyramid Head will be explained in this one.

The graphics have been revised, way better, the lava looking enemy reminds me of the straight jacket, of course S.J looked scarier...
But otherwise, I can expect a near death experience from subtle heartattacks from this game.
                Lol...

P.S. Sorry for posting so much today.

P.S.S. Imagine a real life simulation of a Silent Hill game used by motion sencoring and headset. Ohh boy.

And to end the day, what could be better than a best of Silent Hill: Homecoming's first level ? After having cut out some puzzles and other long wanderings, we offer you some disgusting monsters, creepy settings, a really mean elevator, and, last but not least, the almighty Pyramid Head. What about that!

The effect at the end is badass The game looks better and better.
I'm starting to get excited about this game. The only gripe I have with the graphics now is the lack of grain filter. Hopefully there'll be an option to toggle it on/off.

Hmm i thought only the creatures roaming the streets where a manifestation of the characters thoughts and feelings.
I was under the impression that pyramid head used to be a regular guy living in silent hill, as was the butcher, making it possible for them to appear at will, at any time.
I hated the boss fight with pyramid head in number 2, it was boring, is that the best they could come up with, and why was there two pyramid heads?
The cut scene after the battle was awful and all i could do was feel dissapointed with it.
The fight scene with the butcher in origins was better, being stuck in that small space with him

The two Pyramid Heads represent James' guilt for the death of Mary, and once she's died, Maria. I personally feel he's the town's way of testing sinners for judgement, but that's my opinion. I don't think he was ever human, though, although I suspect the excutioners based there appereance on his.

                        My wallet thanks you Konami.

Earlier this week I watched a Konami rep play through a bit of Silent Hill: Homecoming while we were awaiting the coming of Castlevania creator Koji Igarashi. The quick play through showed off the opening moments of the game, with protagonist Alex Shepherd waking up in Silent Hill and setting off on the search for…

Actually, yes. If HC is proving anything, it's that they're trying to mimic the SH2 and SH3's successful elements meshed with the movie's. Pyramid Head had a specific reason in SH2, so IT IS surprising that they're bringing him back and it's for the sake of replicating a classic no doubt. I'm sure there will be an explanation, but the mere fact that he's in HC serves an obvious reason.

SH2 may have lacked challenge, particularly with boss fights, but everything there had a purpose and theme that was tied directly to the story. That's especially true of the Pyramid Head fight, despite it being easy as pie. It's also applicable to every boss fight in the series, and it's not exactly a bad thing since the series has always been about atmosphere.

Having said that, if HC breaks tradition, then that's fine as long as we don't end up with RE4-inspired crap for the sake of so-called challenge. Also, SH4 was a title forced on by then-KCET management. Despite the tie to SH2, the game was not intended to be part of the series. It's absurd to think that outsourcing the series had to do with a "last chance". Looks like an executive decision to dedicate internal resources to more mainstream projects. Could the original team have done a better job? In an evolutionary sense, definitely. The franchise isn't viable enough like MGS to take big chances, so they're taking it safe with the tried and true. Unlike Origins, Konami does have a lot of input on this project; as I recall, the character designer is actually SH2's. Music? Yamaoka.

Is Homecoming looking promising? Yes. Given general impressions from previews, it's looking to be very faithful and I did enjoy Origins myself. The only potential problem I see is perhaps a Zero-esque deja vu, but I suppose the gameplay revisions might take care of that.

Oh man. It's like the folks who made this game only watched the movie then said, yep we need to base the aesthetics of our game offa dis. Come on Pyramid Head? It's the fucking movie design! And the bugs like in the movie!

The files on that website are insanely huge. Even at 400+ Kbps it takes about five minutes to download one.

I think his movie design is considerably better than his appearance in Silent Hill 2. I'm not just speaking of graphics, but his helmet design actually looks much better, and more practical. The previous design looked like he took some vent ducts and made it Now his torso is exposed, showing a muscular brute who has white skin. Much more terrifying IMO.

Too much movie reference. I liked the movie, but that doesn't mean I want the stuff from it in the game, I treat those two as two separate universes :/.
First there were nurses (Brookheaven nurses in Alchemilla hospital... just like in Origins), then the transformation, cocroaches, big "Welcome in Silent Hill" sign, tearing painting apart to reveal a passage and now Pyramid Head :/. What will be next? Rose da Silva running about the city or a bunch of crazy witch hunters?

And I agree with randomwab here. The game may look good now (although sometimes it looks horrible, characters other than Alex especially), but it doesn't look nowhere near as good as Silent Hill 3 in both design and graphically. Even now SH3 looks great, SH5 looks IMHO just ok (I know that technically SH5 is superior, but it's overall look that matters here). And to be hones, I don't feel Silent Hill in the game yet.
