Is could be possible for the games to be taking place at the same time, I mean doesnt the main character have the same surname as James's wife, her maiden name anyways.
I know there not related but it could mean something

That wasn't Team Silent that did 4. The last game "Team Silent" (if, as someone once pointed our correctly.... is a specific label) did was SH2... there hasn't been a team technically since. It's just Konami doing it in Japan with the Japanese... you're right about that, but it's moved on beyond barely anyone except Akira Yamaoka being involved who had involvement in it previously it seems.

The technical change here is Konami has outsourced it for the second time... Origin's was a bit hit and miss in places, but it stayed fairly true to the original titles (perhaps even more so than SH4)... Homecoming is looking better than it did previously each time they show it off, but my issues stems from them linking the game and movie worlds together now. IMO while I like them both and even though the effects look cool in game, they really should keep them separate.

All things said though... I agree, I see no issue in outside teams doing the game. Teams internally and externally submitted ideas for SH3 and SH4... they just happened to be decided upon to be in-house teams, this time a Western developer pitched and got it. And I don't think Western devs have ruined this either... but I have less confidence in them pulling it off based on what I'm seeing right now. I believe someone involved said it like this... it's Western take on a Japanese take on Western horror. Somehow I expect a little bit of loss in translation along the way. Something is missing right now and I can't quite put my finger on it. But with the improvements taking place each time I'm sure it's likely to be fixed.

Umon - You sure the character designer is actually the same as SH2's?

Actually no, but I remember an older interview from May of 07 with Masashi Tsuboyama (SH2 directer, among other duties like background modelling). I somehow assumed he was involved, but I could be wrong. Perhaps an adviser or some involvement like Yamaoka? We'll find out sooner or later.

Technically, I suppose that Team Silent lost a critical member with Keiichiro Toyama's departure to SCEI in 2000. I'm not even sure if that was a real label/ Capcom had quite a few bs "labels" for one thing, including Team Little Devil and Viewtiful. Technical staff, and most creative staff remained largely the same for SH3 and to an extent 4. I suppose that's because it remained with then-KCET.

I wonder if Kojima snagged some of those engine programmers, since SH3's effects do stand the test of time. We didn't see self shadowing done realtime in-game for a great while, and the press dubs it a "next gen feat".

Wow, John really took my post the wrong way. I'm not bitching at all about another team or a western team getting the game. I'm bitching because the team, in my opinion, are not doing a good job with the game. To me, it looks like they're making this for people who saw the film and thought "Hey, I wouldn't mind checking out one of those games".

As for the plot, the games do go into a lot of backstory, and a lot is gained from background materials such as the "Lost Memories" book. And if you're going to say that that is a bad way of putting out story, it's really no different to, say, Wesker's Report.

And if we can use this wonderful Resident Evil analogy, Pyramid Head showing up in Homecoming is akin to Nemesis looking for S.T.A.R.S. members in Resident Evil 4. It doesn't fit. I have no doubt they have an explanation for him, as with every creature in Homecoming, all I'm saying is it's a bit awkward story wise to bring him back as the metal head image of Pyramid Head is something James thought up, the original executioner that inspired James simply wore a hood, not a metal helmet.

You also jumped to a conclusion when I mentioned the dual Pyramid Head battle in Silent Hill 2. When I said it was awesome, I was talking about the build up and pay off. If you think that how it ended could have been enhanced if the second PH had a half second longer suicide animation, then fair enough, but saying that the boss battle had bad production values? Are you fucking serious? The fight is no different to countless ones in almost every video game series ever. Your own beloved Resident Evil. How is that fight different to any tyrant fight. Run a safe distance, turn, shoot two rounds, turn, run, repeat.

And why does Silent Hill 4 get so much hate? Please tell me what was so much worse than the other games in the series, ‘cause the only thing that it did worse than the other titles was repeating the worlds and, to a point, Walter Sullivan and the ghosts.

As for the Team Silent issue, Rombie is right, they haven’t really been around since Silent Hill 2. Only a handful of those guys worked on Silent Hill 3, and for The Room, it was about half of the newer guys who worked on 3 and half of the guys who were in the team from 1 and 2.

Edit: Just some more info on Team Silent. The name came around from one of the Silent Hill 2 trailers, and most fans have kind of stuck to it since. I think the most important loss for the Team was Takayoshi Sato, who moved to EA after Silent Hill 2. He created all of the CG for Silent Hill on his own, and worked with his own studio on creating the CG for Silent Hill 2, as well as being the character designer for both games.

I think it is too soon to judge this book by its covers. As of what I have seen the only possible nail in the coffin that this team could pull off to ruin the series is if Alex does the truffle shuffle after I hit the start button to begin the game. Team Silent or not you can tell this team is trying there best to put a Silent Hill game together and when September rolls around we all will know if they did a good job or not.

                A new trailer:

The narration is incredibly cheesy IMO.

Looks fucking horrible. Get that emo kid out of my game.
How predictable of me to say that though, eh? Japanophile elitist! I'll just go back to playing Siren, developed by Japan! MMM!

Me and my friend there will be here come September, and when this game turns out to be a steaming pile, it's ok, we'll accept your apologies.

I just can't see why Pyramid Head is in this one, apart from "lol cool monster ftw".
Why did they have to fire Team Silent? SH4 wasn't even meant to be a SH game and was because of fear of a new series...
If they give me a good reason for Pyramid Heads appearence, then kudos to them, but as far as Im concerned, hes only there for movie references really.

This game turned a little bit weird, first they change their main hero appearance, then they needed to improve graphics, tecnically they game looks outstanding, but i feel that the series need to reveal more about silent hill and his truly born history, SH origins was an okay game but i was expecting more about the plot... i don't know, at least this game remains loyal to the entire saga's concept. As for Pyramid Head, well he became such a great demonic hero for this title, i don't feel any panic while playing the game he's in, nurses are terrible but at the same time, sexy ladies wandering around...

Very (your game? nice/ you're acting a bit like an emo yourself :p). Even if the game ends up being enjoyable, you've already conditioned yourself to hate it which you'll refute I'm sure. Seems that you'll be happier with a novel.

Team Silent was just a mock label for the team, and no one got fired. It's just a matter of putting resources/talent into other projects, that's all.

Some of you may have enjoyed SH4, but reality was that the game was incredibly boring to play but with an interesting story. It lacked the tension of a horror game, and played like a half baked action game.

I'm sold after seeing of the latter gameplay vids. Pre-ordered and ready to go.

I pride myself in my emo abilitys. Speaking of novels though, I hope someone is translating the Japanese novels of SH1-3. I've heard very good things about them.

Actually, a large amount of people who did make up Team Silent have left Konami to join Team Siren. I know there are a few key figures still at Konami (Yamaoka, Ito, Owaku) but unless they put together a new team, it's very unlikely we'll see another internally developed Silent Hill title.

I don't know about that. A lot of people I know hated Silent Hill 1-3 because of that very reason, that it was boring, but they loved Silent Hill 4. I agree that having to go through the levels again was a bad choice design wise, but the game was far from boring, and had a much easier action system that is in no way bad. Yet people still bitch about Silent Hill combat being horrible. I just don't get it.

Really? I didn't know that (Konami staff leaving for SCEI). Then again, I personally thought that Toyama's departure was their biggest loss since the man did a LOT of work and research on the original. Between him, Yamaoka, and Sato, they made the original what it was. It's still my favorite.

Putting a new team together wouldn't really be much of an issue for Konami. Thing is, the financial viability of the series isn't there so we're not going to see anything mind blowing technically, or design-wise from the series. I suspect that the graphics in HC improved considerably only after the wave of negative vibes online.

I stand by what I said about SH4 being boring, but it had to do with design choices/layout, and not the actual action/combat system. But that by itself felt a bit odd for a "horror game".

Your outlook about the game is pretty much the same as mine with Capcom nowadays. The company lost pretty much everyone that made me a big fan (sans the Onimusha team). That includes SF, but SFIV's developer (Dimps) consists of former Capcom staff who worked on the series.
