Why? Because I have no friends.

I never found Silent Hill to be so terrifying that I couldn't handle it by myself. It could be that I'm desensatised to the whole thing, too oblivious to be
terrifed, I know its a game or I'm just too intregued to be terrified. I know I only jump at scares if I know they are coming, which I think is odd. Rest of the time I'm as cool as a cucumber.

damn straight! lol j/k but i usually will play them alone. but sometimes i scare myself and in order to get back into them i need someone there. other then like 1 and origins. those you shouldnt really need them.

I play them alone at night time, because the sun on the screen irks me quite a lot and because my television is away from everyone else so they can't whine about it being too loud.

This. I only use my consoles at night. Plus, I try playing my horror games past 1 a.m., 'cause I don't find them to be scary enough on their own. This is becoming increasingly hard as I grow older, tho.

I try to play alone, however people love watching me play. I guess since it's a 40 in tv it's like "wow" and its like a show to them.

i kinda find it hard to play silent hill all alone haha!! cause i live in a average size house with my brothers following me and watching me play video games a lot. and i have curfew when playing the big game consoles so i only play in the afternoon. =P

but honestly the only silent hill game i played all alone in the dark was SH1 in my psp using my earphones.

I've shown some friends Silent Hill infact when I got SH2 I got my friends round to see it but that was only for a few hours beyond that the odd glance in from my parents or once I moved out my wife but on the whole I play on my own has to be on my own although the missus really got into SH4 not enough to play it but she enjoyed watching and we'd talk about it in length afterwards she didn't watch me play Shattered Memories but she did like to talk about it . . .

I used to play it heaps with a group of friends an we called ourselves The Silent Hill Crew (because we don't believe being lame is a sin) But I haven't done that in ages. Now I play it on my own. But I won't play Fatal Frame on my own...

Fatal Frame deserves to played in the dark on your own it's the whole point! I genuinely lost sleep because of that game (the first one at least) oh and you must play it with headphones on for that extra "brghghghgh" feel

I generally don't play Silent Hill alone namely because my friends seem to like it, but don't really want to play it themselves...So that means I play it for them and they watch.

I don't really find it 'that scary' to be honest with you. Its just like Resident Evil in the fact that there are a few "Boo-Ahh!" moments, but nothing to change pants over.

I don't know about you guys but I enjoy being by myself so I can't be annoyed with the girlish squeals of my friends. Besides, you don't have a partner in Silent Hill (for that long, that is). I can't say I've played with someone else, but it seems a little less fun when you're with someone.

Whatcha gonna do next? Play Silent Hill with the lights on?!

I can't stand playing it alone, have to have someone with me to hold my hand. Funnily enough no one likes to sit with me to play it because apparently I pause too often. tcha!

I used to play them alone. Now I often play them with people watching me...as long as they stay quiet.

Being alone does help to further the whole isolation aspect of the atmosphere.
