Silent Hill 1 + Shattered Memories / Silent Hill 3 = WTF?

After playing Shattered Memories (and the ending!) I really wanted to try out the original Silent Hill... Oh man, what a game. I got the Good+ ending which made me extremely happy but completly left me confused.

So, in the good+ ending, Harry gets a baby from Cheryl+Alessa, which eventually will become Heather from SH3 (haven't played it... yet). So he survives to get killed on SH3. However, after a quick search in YouTube, SH1's bad ending leaves Harry dead on the crash, giving Shattered Memories sense; but leaving SH3 on a fuckfest of canon... So which one is the "official" one???

And don't you find sad that Harry's fate is an awful death anyway?

Also there's the Cheryl stuff from SM (her alive and grown up), since she's supposed to die in the fight of the Good+ ending right? Damn, my head hurts...

No, no, no!

Shattered Memories has nothing to do with SH1 and SH3, it just uses the same concept of dad having a car crash and searching for his daughter, nothing else. That's why creators of the game kept saying that this is not a remake nor a sequel to the original game, but a re-imaging (whatever that means) of Silent Hill 1, that it takes place in a completely different universe. The game gives a node here and there to the old games (especially UFO ending), but that's it. There's no storyline connection here.

Actually Shattered memories makes A LOT of sense with silent hill 1 and even 3. You just have to accept the fact that Cheryl is a Crazy person. In shattered memories you hear about a troubled teenager at the mall that turns out to be Cheryl aka Heather. Silent Hill 3 was just another BS hallucination of Cheryl's. All of the locations in SH3 could easily be in Silent Hill. We see a subway in shattered memories and the town is a lot bigger than we thought. The mall cop that befriended Cheryl could easily be Douglas and his death could be substituted for Harry's in SH3. After douglas died from being stabbed by either Cheryl or even Dahlia, who could have been a fellow trouble maker, Cheryl begins to idolize him and goes on an imaginary adventure with him. Even Silent Hill 2 can be roped in because James could be just as crazy as Cheryl and have his own made up story. There are 2 canons to Silent Hill now. One where Harry survived Silent Hill 1 and the cult stuff is real, and one where Harry died in a car crash and none of that stuff was real. Even though Shattered memories takes the magic out of the series, it shows it from a new perspective. Its really fun to think about it and piece things together.

You have to come to terms with two facts.
The first fact is that there are two canons. One that follows the Good ending of SH1 and one that follows the Bad ending.

The second fact is that in the Bad ending canon everything that happened in silent hill 1 was made up. This renders your first two points useless. Cheryl hates her mother (who is dahlia) and makes her the villain of her story.


Now about your other point. SH 0, SH 2, SH 4, and SH H ALL STAR CRAZY PEOPLE!!!1!!!111!!

Their adventures could easily be hallucinations. Silent hill games always have a dreamlike setting so its not a big stretch.
Now about the connections to the plot of SH1 found in Origins, the Room, and Homecoming. These belong in the Good Ending Cannon where Silent Hill actually is a cult infested hunted demon town.

Its really not hard to connect the plots. Silent Hill is an abstract game. You could easily say the UFO endings are canon. Its fun and I resent your comments about RE. Why can't two games cooexist peacefully? Why do you have to be a horrible person LET THE PLOTS LIVE IN PEACE

Shattered Memories (beside being a Silent Hill game) has no connections to any of the prior games, or the original. It was merely adapted from the original story, with Konami using the same characters, overall plot, and most of the same ideas. Kind of like how The Dark Knight is a modern take on Batman, Shattered Memories is not canon and does not tie in anywhere...

Its a sequel and directly ties into the "Bad" ending of SH1. The "bad" ending of SH1 is Harry lying dead in his wrecked car in the real world.

I played this and agree that the story has nothing to do with the cannon Silent Hill. Did enjoy it though, the nightmare sequences were stupid but the story, exploration and puzzles were nice the doctor was overacted a bit too much Spoiler:

I could care less what climax says. Shattered Memories was a very clever game and has a lot more depth than you are admitting. Its fun to connect the plots so im going to keep on doing it.

Well, the thing about that one would be;

The Bad ending isn't cannon. We know Harry makes it out of Silent Hill due to Silent Hill 3. It's one of the few times we do know the ending of a Silent Hill game because certain events must have preceded it. Therefore, Climax isn't contradicting itself. It's simply linking to a non-canon ending.

It's like the GameBoy visual novel. The ending where Possesed Cybil kills Dahlia and leads Harry of into a nightmare, or the scene where Harry calls his own phone number only to have himself answer (and in that ending receive said phonecall during the ending) are awesome little bits, but they aren't canon.

Besides, you can't really say you're ignoring what the makers of the game said because the game they made is awesome. Sorta doesn't work.

Them saying it's not a remake is kind of bogus. They just remade it and gave it a new name. I suppose Friday the 13th and Halloween were not remakes either, then, despite re-inventing the whole concept of Myers and Voorhees?
