It's all gonna depend. The tales of some minion proclaiming they were gonna have to dumb down the plot make me shudder. Silent Hill 3's plot is about as video games get, asshat. Put away the editing shears and instead work out how to mesh it as well as you possibly can with ending of the first movie.

If they get someone who actually gives a shit instead of just waiting for there next check, then maybe it can be saved.

Given that it was the studio who pressed to include the husband story into the first movie i'm betting the reason they've hired a director with little experience and seemingly next to no knowledge of the games is so they can have as much control as possible without having to fight to ruin things this time. I'm also betting another reason for the director and actress with little experience is so they can do it as cheaply as possible.

Didn't Michael J Bassett say he was going to mesh the third games story in with the first movie for this sequel? So whats the problem?

        -My Thoughts-

So far his plans that he has shared on his blog sound OK, so I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt for right now. He wants to add in more SH elements (like Robbie the rabbit for example), bring Akira Yamaoka in for music, use practical effects, and make it scarier than the first.

The title just needs to lose the 3D part.

Adelaide looks older in that shot. In other candid photos of her, she looks a lot younger. But I think she looks good. Although she looks similar to Rhada Mitchell, which is funny since Sharon/Heather wasn't her biological daughter.

Sean Bean possibly coming back to be Harry Mason....would be awesome.

All in all I remain optimistic on the film.

The problem is the ending of the first movie, it doesn't fit unless you do some serious sidestepping ("oh it was all a dream"). Throwing in some fan service things like Robbie will probably work against the film, think Pyramid Head here, what happened after he was in the movie? He was in everything else for a cameo. Did he belong in the movie? Not really, he could have easily been cut out. He was there purely as a fan service and as something to make the characters run to a certain place, he didn't serve any actual story purposes. He shouldn't even be using the games as anything more than a base for the story, that's what the first movie did and it worked very well.

The only way I can see them using the third's plot is if the intro has Sean Bean finding baby Heather on his door step at the intro and at some point, probably the car ride, it being explained in a note from her mother what happened to her.

The main issue is, that as it stands, the plot of the third game isn't workable since Heather/Cheryl/whatever they randomly changed the girls name to in the movie didn't make it out of Silent Hill. It pretty clearly shows her and the mother trapped. So it's gonna need a good reason, or most likely some handwavium, to make it fit with the current plot.

Hopefully, the director at least has some idea what the games are about and gets rid of some of the crapier elements from the movie. The only bonus in this is that he doesn't need to use the stupid cult of the first movie.

At least in that shot she doesn't seem young enough. Ah well. Hopefully it won't be random change #1 - Heather is now a young but succesful fashion designer on her way up the ladder.
I disagree that she looks too old, and also, Heather's symbolically anywhere from age 7-31 in the game. I've given up on the idea that they need to cast someone who looks like a convincing teen, and at this point it's all up to the acting for me.

Yes, well the Director has stated he found a way. Whether or not we will like it will be seen in the future.

As for Robbie the Rabbit, he was in 3. This one will be based on 3.....so I don't see the issue. Its not at all like Pyramid Head.

Again the director, I believe, stated that he isn't copying 3 exactly. It will probably be similar enough, but not a direct translation. So it seems he is doing what Gans did with the first movie.

Gans, sadly, wasn't responsible for the plot, or at least didn't have total control over it. They had a script monkey, who made those pointless and random changes. I don't mind them making changes to the plot, I should add, but at least have them for a reason. The main reason the Silent Hill one sets my teeth on edge is that so many of them served no purpose.

Honestly, I really don't care. Heather looking too old is one of my lesser concerns. I'm simply worried it's Pointless Change #1. As can be inferred from my posts, the pointless changes bug me no end. As long as the actress does well I don't mind.

Yes but Gans and Avery did go over the story together did they not? So I'm sure he did have some say.

As for the first film, if some of the dialogue was rewritten and they got rid of that horrible "burn the witch!" part.....it could have been a GREAT film.

Gans would have had some imput, no doubt, and I personally suspect he's why the movie turned out as well as it did rather than something more Scary Movie. My main cause for hope that this won't suck is that Avery is gone. I admit, it's my personal feeling after watching the DVD bonus stuff, but I got the distinct impression he wasn't happy writting a movie based on a game and wanted to do his own thing.

There are a few other changes I'd have done (the random name changes and Harry's sudden sex change being the most obvious, along with scrapping Pyramid Head) but yes, it could have been. Claiming 'best video game movie' really isn't that great an accomplisment, sorta like 'most polished turd.' Of course, my main reason for knowing terror is they're messing with SH3's plot and there was talk some time ago of dumbing down the plot to make it more accesible to non fans. Which is just dumb. Most fans don't have a clue what's going on, that's half the fun!

I am very happy to see that they are making this, since I am a fan of Silent Hill 3. I do not see the necessasity of 3D, but I am no doubt excited about the film.

                          This does however frighten me.

I don't remember ever reading about that one. How long ago was that?

Quite a while ago. 2009. Given how much has changed, maybe the minion who spke the stupid is gone now. I dunno. You can read it yourself here - http://www.shocktillyoudrop.com/news...s.php?id=12891

This 3D Trend needs to STOP. NOW.

I am looking forward to this. The first one got old because of the mother/daughter thing, wasn't really interesting to me. Not to mention SHARRON! SHARRON! I'M COMING!!!! Everyone on here is right. A lot of the monsters were fan service and nothing more. I did like however the soundtrack. It was very nostalgic.

                                No cult please, K? 'HANKS!
