I haven't checked out the trailer or anything - just gonna go see it. SH3 is one of the very few games that goes straight to my heart.. I don't even play it at that much to be honest, but it has a very special feeling about it.. I remember a few weeks ago just starting it up on my notebook next to me and drifting to sleep while that menu screen music played. Also the first movie's use of game assets was awesome

Reviews are in. They're mostly negative, big surprise, but at least some of the negative reviews had some sort of faint praise in them.
For many years, Heather Mason (Adelaide Clemens) and her father, Harry (Sean Bean), have been on the run from dangerous forces she does not understand. Heather continues to be plagued by terrifying nightmares and frightened by her father's disappearance, and on the eve of her 18th birthday, she discovers that she is not who she thinks she is. The revelation leads her deep into the demonic world of Silent Hill, where she may become trapped forever.

I'm interested in knowing what you think about the movie before I see it - I've long stopped trusted imdb ratings and such.
One guy on imdb posted:
"I enjoyed the first, but this was really bad. Mortal Kombat: Annihilation bad. Horrible dialogue, awful acting, dreadful CGI... one of the worst video game films yet. "
Though I must say MK2 had some good points and decent music in parts haha. Particularly Cyrax (was it cyrax or ermac) against Jax. Death is the only way out!

I loved it!
I'd give it a solid 8/10. The acting was pretty good and the story changes to the basic SH3 plot to help meld the game and movie stories meshed well enough. Also, Malcolm McDowell as Leonard Wolf was awesome.
One thing that was a little meh were one or two of the "forced 3D" scenes, you know the quick shots where you have something pop out at the camera on purpose. Other than that though, the movie did really well.
Also, at the end, they had two really awesome cameos.
Spoiler:
They escape Silent Hill and hitch a ride from one Travis Grady. As they leave, they pass a police convoy with a certain prison bus headed toward Silent Hill *coughcoughMurphyPendletoncoughcough*
Overall though, great movie, and awesome CGI.

I'm not going to get around to seeing this for a few months, so would you mind transcribing Rahda Mitchils role in the film please? I'm really intrigued by her being in this film?http://www.projectumbrella.net The BIOHAZARD/RESIDENT EVIL Compendium

^ Not as much as you'd expect.
Spoiler:
She just shows up in a flashback right after the end of the first movie where she explains to Chris through a mirror that she's trapped in Silent Hill and found half of the Seal of Metatron, which allowed her to set one of them free, and she chose to free Sharon. She then makes Chris promise to watch over her and protect her at all costs, because "they will come for her".Last edited by Canas Renvall; 10-27-2012, 12:50 PM.

It pains me to say, I honestly didn't really like the film. (spoilers ahead and its VERY LONG)
Well first I have to say I missed a part of the opening because my theater screwed up the 3D on the projector and I had to run out an tell them since no one else would get up. So I only got back when
Spoiler:
Heather catches on fire while talking to Memory of Alessa(about not going to Silent Hill) and then wakes up
So I don't know what I missed.
The movie follows Silent Hill 3's story in a way. She visits many of the same places in the game, with a few tweaks here and there (like her at school). There are some deviations as they also try to connect it to the first movie. This is where the problems come in.
I did not like the way Basset brought Sharon out of Silent Hill. It was too coincidental...too neat. Plus it doesn't fit with what had been established in the first movies ending. Some have tried to say it was left up to interpretation in the first.....no they spelt it out for you.
Spoiler:
Rose appears to Christoper, one random day, in a mirror (I figured it was something they were pulling from Origins). Rose tells him she found one half of the seal of Metatron and that it has the power to take one person out of Silent Hill. Which is why she was not there with him(to call him "My love" another 3 million times....that was annoying). Rose tells Christopher to protect Sharon because the Order of Valtiel want her back to release them from their prison in Silent Hill. Rose tells Chris she loves them and then disappears. Chris turns around and Sharon is magically on the couch. Oh and she forgot everything that happened in the first movie, well everything that happened after Rose almost hit Alessa with their car.
Seriously. That was the explanation. As you can probably tell that seems pretty different to how the last movie ended. Honestly it would have been better if
Spoiler:
It showed flashbacks through out the film or quick cuts in the beginning of Rose and Sharon being dragged back to Silent Hill by The Order, but escaping and sending Sharon back. I don't know. That opening was Rose's only scene in this film. It was pretty disappointing.
I enjoyed Adelaide Clemens as Heather, she was pretty much the only person I liked in the film besides Deborah Kara Unger. Everyone else was practically underused or crap.
Which will be brought up in story spoilers now:
Spoiler:
Heather wakes up from her dream, at the Amusement Park, in her room. IE similar to her waking up at Happy Burger in SH3, but realizes she is still in a dream when Harry is killed in front of her after he comforts her on waking up screaming. She wakes up again, scribbles Silent Hill onto her notebook and begins getting ready for School. Heather and Harry have a heart to heart talk about them moving to where they are at now. Also about why he changed her name to Heather and his to Harry(as well as the 5 other name changes).
Then he gives her a birthday gift, her white vest. He starts talking to her similarly to how he did in her dream before he died, but she cuts him off and says she needs to get to school. He tells her to be careful. Heather leaves and Harry find her notebook on the table with Silent Hill scribbled on it. He rips the page out and pulls out a wooden box, with the Seal of Metatron on it, from the closet. Inside is a a bunch of papers with Silent Hill scribbled on it, Harry's diary, a gun, and one half of the Seal of Metatron.
This is where Chris has a flashback to Rose in the mirror and how Sharon came back.
On Heather's way to the bus, she runs into a homeless guy and sees that he has a stitched up face, backs away and almost gets hit by a car. His face goes back to normal and then Douglas runs into her. He asks her if she is okay and starts small conversation asking if they met before. She says no(with a worried face) and says she needs to go.
Heather is now at school and is asked to introduce herself to the class (I honestly enjoyed this part, many don't though). She says she is new, her name is Heather and she just moved here. Her teacher tells her to do something more robust. She asks "What is this, third Grade? Fine, what do you want to know?"
Then some bitchy girl asks if she gets all her clothes at good will and then the class laughs. Then Heather goes on a rage rant, to the effect of:
"Look, My dad and I move around a lot. This is the fifth school I've been too. Don't try to get to know me because I sure as hell don't want to get to know you. So we won't be friends. I won't text, tweet, or Facebook you. And based on the look of a lot you in here, there doesn't seem to be very many free thinkers. So just ignore me because by the time any of you try to, I'll have already moved on. So hows that?" /Heather Rant
The teacher semi laughs then introduces Vincent (Cooper) and asks him to say something about himself, but he complains he can't top Heather's intro.
On the way to her next class Heather gets lost and has her crazy episode again this time seeing the Armless creature walk towards her down the hall. She backs up and runs into Vincent who tries to get her to ditch school with him for coffee. She basically blows him off and says she needs to get to class and that speech of hers applies to him as well. It cuts to later in the day and Heather is leaving school, when she sees Douglas in the distance and ducks back into the building, running past Vincent who locks eyes with Douglas.
She calls Harry about being followed and they agree to meet at Happy Burger in the Central Square mall. Harry is then caught by the Order at home. The mall is full of people, including a birthday party, and slowly begins to shift around her. Lot of crazy things: like evil clowns and children eating flesh. Douglas spots her and chases her through the employee area of Happy Burger, where she sees a man being carved by workers like a dead cow and his flesh being cooked like a burger on a grill. She runs through the back ways of the mall until Douglas catches up. She picks up a RUSTY PIPE and holds it like Heather does when its equipped in the game.
Douglas explains to her that he was hired to track her down, which he thought he lost her after Portland, Oregon, but wants to help her because he found out what the group who was looking for her is all about (The Order of Valtiel). He tells her that Harry(Christopher) lied to her about what happened to her, that she didn't get into a car accident with her mom(who died) 6 years ago and they were trapped in Silent Hill. She doesn't want help, but he tells her he already let The Order know where she was at.
Que the S&M Missionary monster appearing and chopping Douglas' fingers off. Heather grabs him and pulls him into the nearby Elevator. They have a similar ride down like the scene in SH3, only with the Missionary trying to get at them through the top but then disappears. When it stops, Heather walks out and Douglas is pulled up and killed by it.
Thats right, they killed Douglas. Bastards.
Anyways Heather runs some more, hides in a room thinking she is being followed. She starts freaking out and realizes she has Douglas' blood on her green coat and throws it off. She then runs out screaming when a Janitor comes in. She finds an exit and ends up outside of the mall, where police and ambulances are. Douglas' body is being wheeled out of the front where police are discussing who he is and what might have happened to him. They find his notes on Heather in his pocket including her picture. Heather notices this and tries to slip away, but runs into Vincent who ends up walking her home.
Vincent tries to flirt with her the whole way home (while she is still freaking about a dead Douglas and creepy visions), she tells him his pick up lines are terrible. She sees a vision of The Order members and tries to point them out to Vincent who sees nothing. She discusses about her possibly being crazy, with Vincent commenting about his "Grandfather" being in a psychiatric ward. She is a block away from home and tells Vincent she'll see him at school possibly. *insert a joke between them where he says he will call her, when she breaks it to him she never gave him her number*.
Heather goes inside and finds The "Come to Silent Hill" message. She frantically searches the house for Harry. Vincent comes knocking on the door asking if Heather is okay. She says she needs his help and shows him the wall message. He tells her to call the police, but she tells him she can't really explain why she can't. She recognizes the symbol and grabs the box in the closet. They go through the diary, which I have to say is ridiculous:
There are detailed drawing of all the monsters from the first movie it it. Come again? How did Harry know what the hell Rose went through? Did she send the book back with Sharon? Its not explained. There is also a passage about Pyramid Head being the protector and executioner of "the Demon"
Heather grabs the seal, the gun, and the diary and asks Vincent if he could drive her to Silent Hill.....cue the Police showing up. So they run out the back and are on their way.
Insert pointless scene of Police examining the blood wall message and placing Heather as a suspect for the murder of Douglas.
Heather and Vincent driving, recreating the scene from Silent Hill 3 where Douglas and Heather are on the road. Only Heather is reading a note from Harry's diary instead. Here it shows a flashback of Heather and Harry at home in Portland, where an Order member was trying to take Heather(including black wig) and Harry kills him.
Vincent wants to stop for the night because he is tired, so they pull up at Jack's Inn for the night. Vincent tries to dissuade Heather from going to Silent Hill but she says she can't just leave her father to die and that is the end of the discussion. They discuss the Order and the town, and Vincent comments about a line in the diary saying Silent Hill being built on a Native American burial ground.
She takes a nap and wakes to see Vincent Still awake. She asked if he stayed up, for him to reply that he couldn't sleep and he doesn't want her to go to SH. He then reveals that he is a member of The Order of Valtiel and he knows they want her, and that he was raised to believe she was a vengeful demon that is needed to release them from their prison in Silent Hill. Heather can't believe this because The Order was trapped in Silent Hill, which causes Vincent to lift his shirt showing a large Seal of Metatron symbol carved on his side. He comments about his mother Claudia being the leader and that she will stop at nothing to get Heather. (I think he also mentioned his grandfather being at Brookhaven with the other half of the seal)
Heather gets PISSED, which slowly causes the the room and world to shift into the Otherworld. The Missonary shows up behind Vincent takes him and knocks Heather out.
Heather wakes up in her room and finds herself in the foggy world of Silent Hill. She wanders a bit through the town, passing by a few shops that have apartments above it. There is one with two guys in it. I can't tell if this was supposed to represent Silent Hill 4 or not....possibly.
She soon ends up in front of the Church from the first film (I guess) and notices a bunch of witch burning pyres with dead people on them. Dahlia soon reveals herself and tells Heather about:
- Why The Order wants her.
- That she is also all that was good in Alessa.
- That they need her to birth their God.
The Other world shift begins to happen and Dahlia tells her to run and hide inside somewhere.
Heather takes refuge in a nearby building and ends up in a warehouse where we have the most pointless characters appear, Suki(who isn't mentioned by name) and her friend who turns into a mannequin in front of Heather. Heather hears Suki and fins her tied up in a plastic wrap webbing. The mannequin spider wakes and chases them through the warehouse. Heather finds a vent, opens it and crawls in it with Suki right behind for like 2 seconds before she is pulled out of the vent by the monster......cut to Vincent being interrogated by Claudia (who was just now introduced now that the movie is almost over).
She tells him she can't believe he would betray her and that he must be sent to the Asylum like his Grandfather was. Vincent is dragged away as a tied up Harry Mason watches.
Cut back to Heather who climbs out of the vent which leads coincidentally to right outside Brookhaven. She goes inside, explores the desks and finds a flashlight, sees patient files find Leonard's room number and then grabs the key for it. She is attacked by what looks like a Lurker with legs and shoots it in the face. She explores some more and finds Leonard, in which they have a conversation about Claudia, The Order and the Seal. He also comments about how there are many "Silent Hills". IE reference to other "Otherworlds".
He asks to hold the seal, which Leonard takes and combines with his half. He shoves it into his chest and turns into a creature. He knocks out Heather and beings to roam the halls while carrying Heather. She notices the seal in his chest and pulls it out. He drops her and turns into a pile of ash.
Heather stands and is grabbed by one of the inmates in the hallway through his door. She bites him to get free and all the other patients try to grab at her. She screams for someone to help her and Pyramid Head shows up and begins chopping arms. Heather crawls away and makes it into another hall. She takes a moment and then hears someone coming to her general direction. Its Vincent being rolled on a gurney by The Order members. They place him in a room with a group of Nurses, and the two members are attacked for being stupid when dealing with them. They fuck the two members up.
Vincent tries to free himself, but its a no go. Heather offers to free him if he tells her where her dad is. He tells her under the Lakeside Amusement Park. The Nurses hear them and begin to attack, Heather finally gets Vincent free and they leave the hospital.
They make their way to the Amusement park and notice Order members are everywhere. Vincent tells Heather he hopes she has a good life, KISSES HER, then runs away attracting attention. Heather makes a break for the carousel and Order members spot her anyway. On the carousel Memory of Alessa appears, encircles it with fire, then flips her shit over why Heather didn't listen to her about not coming there and she can't defeat her. She goes on about how she is the dark part of Alessa, which leads to an epic hug match, making Alessa whole.....again(didn't that happen at the end of the first film???).
Pyramid Head is also chained to the carousel causing it to spin downward by turning a crank.
Heather steps off the carousel which leads into a large open underground "church", which leads her to confront Claudia. Vincent is tied up now by the way.
Claudia goes on about how Heather's flesh will be used as a vessel for their God who can release them from Alessa's prison and bring about Paradise. Heather then hands Claudia the fully combined Seal of Metatron which reveals her to be the S&M Missionary monster the whole time (lol).
Now this is where I lost my shit with this movie.
Pyramid Head breaks free from his carousel "prison" and comes to the aid of Heather. Insert Missionary Vs. Pyramid Head fight. Yes....a fucking monster fight.
Anyways, PH chops her head off and then walks away leaving Heather to save Harry and Vincent.
They get back to streets of Silent Hill and Vincent comments about the ash having stopped falling and there is still some power here. As they begin to walk out of Silent Hill, Harry says he can't leave and that Vincent should watch out for Heather. He needs to go find his wife. Heather offers to go help him, but he turns her away and tells her to go live life and be safe, as fog surrounds him. Cue reference to Silent Hill 2....
Heather and Vincent make it to the highway as the fog completely clears. They flag down a passing semi and are given a ride. The man introduces himself as Travis Grady and mentions he "Hadn't been this way in a long time." Referencing Silent Hill:Origins and in a way Silent Hill: Homecoming.
As the three leave Silent Hill and out of view, a police escorted prison bus is driving towards Silent Hill. As the camera pans past the "Now entering Silent Hill" sign, the fog reappears. Showing a reference to Silent Hill: Downpour.
Thats the whole plot for you with all the details I could remember. With a few big changes, this could have a been a great sequel that tied both the movies and the games together. It had lots of little nods that I appreciated as a fan of the series, but unfortunately it needed:
- Less cheesy dialogue
- About 10 minutes more explanation on story and character interaction like with Spoiler:
for instance.Claudia (She desperately needed more development)
- Less retcons to the first film.
- Less Jump cuts.
- More scenes like the first, where tension is built wandering around.
- More monster screen time. Only the Nurses seemed to get adequate screen time this time around.Last edited by atlier00; 10-27-2012, 06:29 PM.

@atlier: They explain why there's that bit where you flipped shit.
Spoiler:
The movie version of PH is revealed to be Alessa's bodyguard. Since Heather accepts Alessa on the carousel, she is now technically Alessa, and PH comes to protect her from Claudia/Missionary.
It actually makes perfect sense.
Also, I loooooved Adelaide Clemens. She captured the spirit of SH3 Heather perfectly.
"Fuck Facebook."

I just don't like how Basset did that scene. It could/should have been less cheesy IMO.
Example being
Spoiler:
Heather should have had to fight her using smarts until she needs saving at the last minute. Then they could have had PH come in grab Claudia and rip her in half or something. That would have been less cheesy than them circling each other braced for combat. It was basically just a step up from the Alice vs. Nemesis fight in RE: Apocalypse.
Or they could have skipped that entirely and actually had the fetus eating scene where god was being birthed and PH came along and killed Claudia and the Missionary who is never revealed to actually BE Claudia. (something about that "revelation" left a bad taste in my mouth)
Also, I loved Adelaide's portrayal of Heather as well.Last edited by atlier00; 10-27-2012, 08:00 PM.
