Of course, because "bollocks" is comparable to the worldwide struggle for equality for all people LGBT and the hardships/discrimination they face. I had no idea men's genitalia also faced such a fight for basic civil rights. I'd forgotten what insightful, clever people browse the forum. My mistake. Thank you for enlightening me on this issue.

Caring about discrimination isn't exclusive to women and saying that "being a man" is not caring about society, the issues within society etc is likening the male gender to a bunch of neanderthals. Which they aren't. You don't have to be talking about homosexuality to use the word "gay" in a derogatory fashion. Just like you don't have to be talking about black people specifically for people to find the word "nigger" offensive. Saying "That is so gay" talking in a negative context is an insinuation that 'gay' is bad, and perpetuates the idea that it is 'okay' for people to slag off gay people. Just like when people use the word "tranny" and "shemale" (just like Julie Birchill's lovely article in the Guardian), they tell society it is alright to be transphobic.
I 'get' what you're saying, but it doesn't apply to every LBGT person. For example, some would prefer to be identified as gay/gender-queer/whatever, but will say such things as, "That's so gay", or "Look at the tranny".
It's not offensive, to everyone. ;P ...but people are different from one another, I know that it can be hurtful, etc., but obviously, it's offensive, in this case.I'm a blackstar.

I know everyone is different Mark, but that could be said for anyone. It's like how a lot of black folk can say "'Sup nigga?" and it's deemed alright, but if a white person said "Hello nigger", there would be some raised eyebrows. I don't generally get offended at much, and I know transvestites who refer to themselves as "trannies". But there are a number of different "trannies" and transvestites differ to transgendered people, and so on. A lot of transgendered people find "tranny" offensive because it's not referring to them for who they really are. It was also the assumption that he looked like a "gay bald dude" and this was somehow a bad thing, and using "gay" as an insult. Within certain social circles it's accepted from people who are known as LGBT alllies, but the majority of my gay/trans friends (and I know a hell of a lot), would be insulted if some random said "You look so gay" and then went off insulting people's behaviour calling it "gay".
I wasn't so much offended at the initial post, I was just informing him not to use gay as an insult. It was the second post where the dude seemed to believe it his right to use the word 'gay' to insult folk and that such matters of LGBT rights shouldn't concern anyone because we should just "be a man" about stuff. Even then I wasn't offended, more flabbergasted that someone could have such an opinion. But, meh, whatever. It's getting off topic now anyway. (Not that this topic really HAS a topic to begin with)

Simple rule - if you're using a word that describes people (such as gay) as something intended to be negative (such as an insult, a description that something is crappy, etc) then you should probably re-think it. Personally, insults make me smile and feel tingly (yes, I am a masochistic bastard) but it's always nice to take the opinions of others into consideration.

If someone asks for a fag in the pub they aren't asking me who the homosexuals are. If an ill person is described as queer it isn't an implication he is homosexual, if something is gay it is just bad, nothing more...
...and Maria wasn't singing about being a lesbian.Beanovsky Durst - "They are not pervs. They are japanese."

What's going on here? LOL
You know, this lil' discussion would've been avoided if one of the moderators here had deleted the g-word (as it was used in the OP - with a negative connotation, no less) and explained why it was taken out.
Since the OP dude used that word in that way, I figure he was still wet behind the ears. More so after he made so many silly mistakes and ignored all warning signs.
