  • I watched Ip Man starring Donnie Yen last night. I really liked it, which came as a surprise to me since I'm not big on foreign films. Loved the classic English dubbing job and the film is quite moving in the later half of the story. Very nearly cried when a certain someone gets shot.

    Awesome film. 9/10

    • Watched Pandorum. Not a bad little movie for a sci-fi one. Nice set, nice costumes and good acting with a decent storyline. I do have a fondness for horros set in confined locations from which escape isn't simple, like ships, space craft and artic bases. This one was a space ship, and a nicely designed one at that. There did feel like there may have been a bit of an influence from Dead Space it too, which was a good thing.

And an ending where I didn't wanna scream at the screen. Not for everyone, but if you fancy a little sci-fi horror then it's good stuff.

      • Saw the Social Network last night. Was a awesome movie. goes through the life of Mark Zuckerberg (the inventor for facebook) when he was in college and thought up the idea of facebook.

His girlfriend broke up with him and he gets mad at her and decideds to make a site called facesmash.com which takes all the girls in Harvard and puts the girl's pics next to each other for you to choose who is hotter (pretty much hotornot.com but only for girls who are at Harvard). That site gets him in trouble as well as his blog about his ex girlfriend saying his other idea was to take girls from Harvard and put their pics next to farm animals to see which one is hotter (lol).

These two jock guys here about how big the site got in like 4 hours (220,000 hits in 4 hours) and decided to get Mark to work on their idea of a site (just a Harvard dating site) and Mark kinda steals the idea and never worked on the jock guy's website.

        nutshell after all that:

Thefacebook gets big, guy who created Napster gets involved, Marks best friend doesn't like the guy, Napster guy gets more into the business than he should, Facebook drops the 'the' in thefacebook (now just facebook), best friend leaves the facebook staff and he sues Mark. The jock guys sue mark too.

Sorry I couldn't remember all their names at this point besides Mark.

At times through the movie I got lost at what they're talking about because of all the business talk lol.

As for the soundtrack my opinion is biased because of who made it. But even my friends who don't like Trent Reznor liked it, my friend Alex leaned over halfway in the movie and said "I'm really digging the soundtrack, I didn't think Reznor was this good". The music really sets the atmosphere and mood in the movie.

Downloading the Soundtrack from nin.com as I type this.

        The Social Network 9/10.

        • However, Zuckerberg's life wasn't actually like that at all. It was in the news.

              • I saw Death Proof yesterday. Holy hell, that movie was amazing. I love Tarantino but somehow never got around to seeing the two Grindhouse movies. As usual the movie was weird as all get-out, but I was just blown away by such a simple concept. 10/10.

                • "Death Proof" is my all-time favorite Tarantino flick.

                  • I watched the updated Nightmare on Elm Street last night. Being one of my favorite horror movies, I have to say that they did a decent job of updating it and keeping it fairly similar in premise to the original, while throwing in a few new bells and whistles. I wouldn't go overboard and say it was outstanding, but it was a very decent movie and worth a second watch at the least.

                    • Huh, I've heard the opposite, but I suppose I owe it a viewing. The original Nightmare on Elm St. is terrifying just on premise alone. Craven's actualizations of the dreams and the confusion between reality is scary. Robert Englund plays Freddy much darker, no thanks to the sequels that image got awfully distilled. I suppose another movie with serious Freddy will be worth it enough.

I agree. You pretty much have to go into this movie with an open mind and not expect everything to be exactly the same as the original. If you want that, why not just watch the original to begin with? The main thing I liked about this new Freddy was he was more realistic as being burned. I know they didn't have the technology back in the '80's to make Robert Englund look really burned, but still, '80's Freddy is really "fake" looking.

It follows the original idea fairly well, but also expands on it...And this, this is a good thing!

I have mixed feelings about this movie. First, I liked the general idea of two scientists pushing the boundaries of ethics and morality, and seeing the consequences that ensue; however, some of these boundaries they push are a little bit on the weird side.

I thought the movie was pretty good until sex with Dren was involved. And I was kind of curious as to how an animal with no predatory DNA in its genetic makeup could possess a stinger tail. Like I said, the movie was interesting, but it left a few questions in my mind that I would have preferred to just have been answered.

Loved the first part of the film, the second part with the exception of the car chase was boring and long.

                            This.

I loved this movie and watched it a shit ton of times with my dad. But I always fucking hated the beginning. There was really nothing that we needed to know about those girls. I mean seriously. Yeah there are a butt load of movies that take forever to get into but Death Proof is by far the worst. But when the chase scene takes place. Thats when its a really good movie lol.

Plus Rose McGowan was fucking sexy in that movie. Well...Minus the smashed face.

                            I'd still tap that

                            • Watched a ton of stuff since I last posted so can't list everything...

Cannibal Holocaust: Put this one off for a long time and I'm glad I did as it completely sucks ass. I thought the animal deaths were something of a bit part, but whenever they occured they had this dramatic music playing over them - I did not get that at all.. The director was trying to emphasise the deaths of the animals? I could understand killing them for food, happens everyday all over the world, but putting that shitty dramatic music over it lost me completely. Why kill them in the first place if its so dramatic for you lol?

Leviathan: Can't believe I never saw this until this year.. Resident Evil 2 anyone?

Also, of course the latest Mad Men, Dexter and Fringe.. great TV shows. They're all getting pretty damn good recently.

I read about this movie in Fangoria about 2 years ago. Even they said it was a shitty movie (I guess hard to do). I watched about half of it and took it back to blockbuster in the same night. That movie was terrible and the animal deaths I could do without.
