Another well crafted film by the Coen brothers with overall great performaces, sharp dialogue and beatiful cinematography by Roger Deakins.
I had the chance to see this last night, but I passed on it. Westerns are not my thing. No matter what the actor or the review scores are. Maybe, just maybe. I'll take the time out to watch it. But I doubt it.

    • Haha, whoa.

And the amusing thing about this is that this film grossed almost 30 million dollars world wide this week. What are people thinking?

The person we must dislike is not Bieber but Scooter Braun, who is responsible for unleashing this mutant upon the world.

          • I recently saw a few South Korean movies...

I got around to watching Thirst, an interesting vampire one.

A devout priest becomes a vampire and loses it a bit.

            Thirst Trailer

aside from that I also saw and really enjoyed The Truck/Truck - despite it's unimaginative title, it's quite a decent thriller that I found rather enjoyable. A father has to go up against the odds in order to get the money for his dying daughter's surgery - he gambles away and loses all he had, stumbles upon the head of the gang murdering people and gets forced to dump the bodies during a police hunt for a serial killer.

            Truck Trailer

Another one is called Black House, the South Korean adaptation of the Japanese novel by Yusuke Kishi called Kuroi Ie (Black House). There was a Japanese one made of it years ago, but I wanted to see the South Korean take on it.

It's about an insurance agent that is suspicious of a family, he feels they murdered their son in order to collect the insurance on him and eventually things start to bite him in the ass, more or less on the dangers of his work.

            Black House Trailer

Anyway, aside from those ones I ended up re-watching the first Scream movie. Love that one!

Meh not surprising really when you think about the amount of teenage girls in the world.

              • It's a little late but I got around to looking at Thankskilling.

                What. Just...what.

I get it, they were going for parodies of Z-Grade horror movie cliches and purposely meant to be bad. I get it. But it still wasn't funny. The words "TOO OBVIOUS" come to mind. It was as if the writers of Epic Movie/Vampires Suck/etc. wrote this one. Bad movies are funniest when
                a) They were trying to be serious and failed. Like The Room, or The Happening.
                b) Even if it's bad on purpose, it's too subtle to know and can pass as a genuine film. Any of Saim Raimi's work, Evil Dead, Drag Me To Hell, etc. Hell even the Spiderman movies might pass.
When it's obvious that you're trying to be awful, it feels like an excuse for bad writing/budget cuts. The jokes are thrown in your face and expect you to laugh. This is why I usually HATE the Horror Comedy genre. No no, Black Comedy is different, I mean straight up Horror/Comedy hybrids.

My only exception to this would be the first two Scar Movie films, they just sleigh me every time and I dont mind a bit of stupid, slapstick comedy.

Anyway I just saw Paul. It was actually pretty good! I'm not too big on my science fiction films but I noticed that there seemed to be tons of sci-Fi references and my personal faveourite was someone saying to Sigourney Weaver "get away from her you bitch!".
Anyway, If you are a fan of Simon Pegg and Nick Frost then you will most likely enjoy this movie (although its not as good as Shaun of the Dead or Hot Fuzz) and Seth Rogen does a pretty good job as Paul.

                  • What I am excited about as I mentioned earlier is the Oscars 2011 which is next Sunday.

I wonder if The King's Speech will knock out everything, including winning Best Lead over Black Swan. This film is the first to be nominated for more Oscars than Titanic.

                    • ^This year's oscar race has been quite interesting. After the globes many thought that the race was a done deal since the Social Network has nearly swept all the critics awards but then the King's Speech pulled a late upset and won the major guild awards and now that film is considered the frontrunner.

                      • Indeed!

I'm currently re-watching films from when I was around 12 - 13 years old. It did not hit me until now, what kind of films I was watching. Interestingly, at that age I was watching a film about the story of Jewish people inside a Nazi concentration camp. The film is completely dialog. When I look back, it wasn't Hollywood action movies that I saw, it was this stuff...

                        • Unfortunately, I don't think Winter's Bone is going home with anything. It's a strong film that transcends a lot of poverty dramas. There's a great emphasis of the setting in its visuals that gives the movie some atmosphere; it also ties in with the plot nicely.

Still, Natalie Portman will take the award for Best Actress, and I won't complain.

But I bet Colin Firth will beat her in Best Lead Actor.

                              • Saw alot of horror movies latley as thats the only films my girlfriend is interested in watching. I wont mention the crappy ones because I dont want to give them anymore publicity than I already have. A few honorable mentions though are The Collector, A pretty average film throughout. Some gory scenes but the best part was the ending and not because it was over. The ending was pretty badass and reminded me of a scene from Texas Chainsaw Massacre (If you've seen both these films you should know what I mean).

Another film which I thought was ok was Mirrors. Not a fan of Keith Sutherland, I dont watch 24 and have no intention of but its nothing personal against him I just dont like the show. The Amy Smart jaw scene was brutal and gave my girl nightmares, success! I dont get scared of these films anymore which kinda sucks because thats the reason you watch a horror is to be scared. Its like if I lost the ability to laugh then comedys would be no good to me anymore.

The last film that kinda scared me was Paranormal Activity. If anyone here thinks this film is 'boring' you clearly watched it in broad daylight, with a group of friends and didnt pay attention. Try watching it in the dark, on your own, with headphones on, blast up the volume and have your back against the room. If your not looking over your shoulder every few minutes then you my friend have balls of steel!
