  • Firefox 3

Has anyone else upgraded to this? I just couldn't stand it anymore and downgraded back to Firefox 2. Theres just too many bugs with this new version.
    • Vbulletin for one, requires me to login with my password every time I try to do an admin function.
    • Red selection lines appear around images when clicking them, rather than the default gray.
    • Passwords which are stored do not automatically enter themselves, I have to click on the password box for it to appear.
    • Downloads freeze at "Scanning for viruses", crashing the browser every time.
    • Tooltip messages are condensed into a 1 word per line format, making them totally useless and unreadable.
    • Even after modifying the toolbar back to the old format, typing things still brings up totally unrelated webpages rather than the actual text you are typing.

Is it just me, or this total crap?

Weird, I have none of those problems. Everything is smooth on my end, and my laptop is a Celeron M pushing wonder with 1.5GB of RAM.

I get a crashing message from a time to time when I close the browser window ironically. But everything else is actually a bit faster compared to the previous version.

I don't like the fact that typing in the URL bar auto populates stuff in my bookmarks. I don't know how to turn that off and have been too lazy to look for a solution.. Do they think we exist in a world without a mouse?

Firefox updated itself this morning but its still just a upgrade of version 2.
From the sounds of it I may not bother finding Version 3

I don't like the new downloads menu or the auto bookmark feature either.

I didn't bother with it because i knew there would be a ton of problems with it, there always is with a new version of something. But they seem to be updating V2 still (like The Dude said, mine updated today as well) so why switch?

Ah, I thought they were going to discontinue FF2. I'll stick with it then. 3 is just a mess. Another issue I had was with my mouse. It has this feature to scroll 3 lines down with a button press (not the mouse wheel). But if pages had a lot of content on them, it would just keep going to the end of the page.

                Edit:
Wow, how ironic. Just after I typed this post, my mousewheel died. The hell?

That function pisses me off too. I looked for a way to turn it off and found a solution:
                    Disable Smart Location Bar

You'd think it would be something as simple as checking/unchecking a box in the options menu.

It's alright I guess, it uses its resources better than FF2 (I think). It's also compatible with most sites, I only need to switch to IE a few times.

I like Opera better than Firefox. Firefox feels so... Mac-cy.

Im on OSX, so my milage may be different, but Firefox 3 is a huge improvement for me.
The red line thing I never even noticed until you said so, and the admin part doesnt apply to me.
                            Passwords appear fine
                            I dont scan for viruses
                            Rarely check tooltips nowadays
And lastly, Ive grown to like the weird searchbar thing.

Overall, a huge improvement over the OSX version of Firefox 2 (and Camino), and I actually prefer it over Safari now.
