  • God, please give us back Pierce Brosnan

Am I the only who can't stand Daniel Craig as James Bond? He is the worst actor to ever be him. The first movie was just awful. They didn't even use a female singer for the opening sequence, the male singing was just lame. And the first movie to have a naked-Bond scene? What are they trying to tell us? And the movie was just boring. It wasn't smooth like the previous movies. Casino Royale was a horrible way to restart a series that didn't need to be restarted to begin with. Why do movies suck these days??? For crying out loud. I saw the trailer for Quantum of Solace, and it doesn't even look appealing. What is it about this movie that is going to make me want to see it?

What do you guys think of the new direction of James Bond?

I disagree. Brosnan was the worst actor IMO, followed by Moore. The best is still Connery, while Craig is a close second in regards to doing the Bond character justice (even Timothy Dalton did a better job than Moore or Brosnan)

The Bond formula didn't change much since the Connery/Moore days. What was good some decades ago became extremely stale and downright campy in the 90's and into the 21st century. I lost interest with Golden Eye, having been a fan myself even of the Moore movies. I gave them a chance with each new release, only to leave disappointed time after time. Until CR on BD.. I didn't even see it in theatres.

Yes, the movies were still financially successful but the camp factor was a bit much; 007's status in cinema became a punchline basically thanks to poor scripts and sub par acting. Thankfully the filmmakers took a hint and decided to bring the character to the 21st century properly with Casino Royale.

The new characterization is actually believable as an elite spy, particularly combat skill wise and a relevant storyline to current events. Anyway, you're actually complaining that there is a pseudo naked scene? What do you think Bond did with the girls prior to CR? Play patty cakes?

Male singer (Chris Cornell) or not, the theme song was well done. I haven't had a Bond theme song stick in my head since Goldfinger.

After more than a decade, I can finally proudly say that I'm a Bond fan. The movies are out on BD, sold separately or in two collection packs. I picked up Dr. No, and MGM did a great job.

Yeah i really don't see how anyone can rather the films go back to the trash of the Brosnan era rather than carry on with the new slicker style of the films.

I disagree with all you I like both Brosnan and Craig, Dalton was the worst bond followed by Moore.

For the love of all that is 007, bring us back Sean Connery.

You know what I thought immediately after seeing the trailer for Quantum of Solace? Three words: The Bond Identity.

George Lazenby is still the best Bond.

As for someone crying to go back to Pierce Brosnan...um...besides "Goldeneye" (which only gets extra points in the memory bank due to the outstanding N64 shooter), all of his Bond films were laughably bad.

I can't even name them, but I remember a news mogul enemy, Denise Richards as a nuclear physicist, and the Halle Berry one where she did a backwards dive into the ocean (with badly done CGI).

As for Daniel Craig showing some skin...hasn't every Bond been half-naked? I mean, in EVERY film, Bond beds women. This requires a shedding of clothing. Craig actually has the physique to make it look like he could be a trained killer. Brosnan looked like a weakling without the tux. No muscles whatsoever. (Pierce Brosnan is still a suave dude though, and I thought he played a serviceable Bond).

And who gives a $#!* about the theme songs? I mean, really?

I've got an OST of all the theme songs, and it's great. The only theme songs I hated were George Lazenby's movie's theme, and the Casino Royale theme. That close up of Craig's serious face made me laugh and really put me off

I stand corrected. I guess some people do enjoy the theme songs.

Personally, I watch the films for the stunts, sex, and slayings. A healthy dose of Vitamin S.

At certain angles Daniel Craig looks like Martin Kemp apparently they approached him to play Bond but he refused.

Isn't the Bond girl in this one the same girl who's playing the Princess in the Prince of Persia movie?

Sadly yes, Gemma I have Big Boobs, no talent but since im blonde everyone thinks im sexy Atkinson.

Dalton was the best Bond imho, however I like Craig's darker, more brooding portrayal of bond, it seems more real compared to the gadgets/gizmo's/lame one liners and constant flirtation/romance plots of the old bond movies.
I like how they've turned Bond into a self loathing, misogynist, brooding workaholic.

As for someones comment about themesongs, since when does a themesong make a movie? The whole point of Casino Royale was to give the give the Bond series the reboot that its been desperately needing for 20+ years, removing the needless crap like laser watches and gadget belts, and making it a more hard boiled, psychological case study of Bond, anyone who wants Gadgets, sex, cars and all the flashy crap has 20 other movies to watch, oh yes, XXX too come to think of it as those 3 themes were all that piece of garbage was about.

Moore is excellent as Bond, but that's ofcourse 'cause Roger Moore by default is pretty awesome (and has a pretty solid background with awesomeness pre-Bond fame.)

Timothy Dalton was also pretty damn awesome. During the mid-90s, when there was a total Bond-fever going (thanks to GoldenEye + GoldenEye 64) with everyone buying VHS collections and reprints of the books and stuff, Dalton was the one I felt was the most "correct".

I've never really liked Sean Connery that much. Maybe he's too "classic". Although, I did like his somewhat brutal/merciless behavior. Which is also why I like Daniel Craig. It's that rough manliness.

Brosnan was okay in GoldenEye. He put Bond back on the map, basically. Unfortunately, his other movies weren't really that great. Although, EA'S Everything or Nothing was a pretty damn impressive production.

I dunno why that is a "problem". I'm more curious about why theme songs have stopped being named after their respective movies and are more like any other licensed track slapped onto an opening sequence and not really a theme song anymore. (Although, I did think "You know my name" was pretty good, and it's ofcourse not the only track to not carry the name of the movie it's for).

More important there, though, is; When will Duran Duran be topped? I mean, A-ha is awesome and stuff, but The Living Daylights just wasn't that great a song (So shame on Barry, I guess. Maybe he just got lucky with A View to a Kill, 'cause the song in Octopussy, whatever it was called, felt kinda weird).

Anyway, text of wall ends here with a though; I suppose part of the "reboot" was getting rid of some of the quirkiness and guidelines of the old Bond-formula.

                              [edit]
No, it ends here with an edit:
I hated the amount of product placement in Casino Royal. It's one out of two movies I can think of off the top of my head when someone say product placement (the other being iRobot... If I'd go on a stretch, I'd say the huge Xbox logo in The Island was a bit over the top too). I mean, it's perfectly fine and all with some product placement, it makes the experience more contemporary and real, I guess. But it has been really terrible in the later bond movies. With entire scenes just dedicated to absurd close ups of Sony logos on cellphones, billboards, TVs, BluRay players and disc logos and god knows what. Sure, we're meant to look at crap on his cellphone, 'cause he got a call and all that, but why the bloody hell is the focus of the "action" put on that huge logo that reads *COMPANY NAME* and not on the actual display of the phone?)
